Diamond Tiara loves winter. The cold weather means even ponies in Ponyville wear clothes. With clothes, she can proudly display how much better she is than other ponies. For this reason, her annual pre-winter shopping trip is of key importance. On its successful conclusion will hinge much of her enjoyment of the coming winter.
Filthy Rich is a busy pony. The needs of his store chain occupy his time, leaving little for anything else, including his daughter. When a cancelled meeting leaves him with a free day, he takes advantage of the opportunity to go shopping with his little girl.

Filthy Rich does not see much use, which I think is a bit of a shame. So I gave him some father/daughter bonding time.
Well... this is just about the best darn DT story I've ever read. Nice light-hearted day spent between DT and her dad, plenty of d'awwww scenes, Alula (Alula is always good to include
), and showing that DT is just an ordinary filly who does have a life outside of tormenting the CMC.
And Filthy Rich is also written very well. The restaurant scene was probably my favourite here, simply for the reasons I mentioned above (d'awwww and Alula), and also because of Filthy Rich showing his humourus side when he played with his food
It's a winter shopping spree! I'm not sure what it is about travel stories that interests me so much, but it probably has something to do with the concept of a familiar face in a foreign land. I liked Filthy's characterization. That might be a bit egotistical since it comes pretty close to my own, but the factors that differ were enjoyable too. I think you really captured the realism of a clothing-based shopping trip. Go in to buy something. Never find exactly what you're looking for. Find something else. End up unhappy with purchase.

Mudpony, this might possibly be my favorite fanfic about Diamond Tiara. You've captured the father/daughter relationship between these two so perfectly. I enjoyed ever second of this story.

This is beautiful! You've captured a wide range of emotions in both father and daughter here. I really feel for Filthy Rich when he wouldn't buy the last snowglobe his wife wanted before her death. I have a feeling that that's why he indulges Diamond Tiara so much, because she's all he has left, and it would be terrible if he ever made her sad on the last day he spent with her. I'm in a bit of the same situation myself with my family, as it happens, so I definitely feel for that.
As usual, you've given Diamond Tiara a lot of depth without ignoring what makes her such a menace in the show. Is this story meant to be in continuity with "Pride and Prejudice and Snails"? I noticed a lot of common characterization.
Filthy Rich definitely needs more love. He'll be showing up in my new story soon, and the lack of a tag for him makes me very sad.

This is stand alone, but did come about because I enjoy writing the interactions between DT and her father in P&P&S. It, like P&P&S, is based on my head-canon, as opposed to something like "Too Cool for MULE" where I'm having fun with a different view of her. It could easily take place within the same world, and knowing me, snow globes might pop up in P&P&S, in a background sort of way. Time-wise, that works, since they take place at the opposite ends of winter. If so, this would most likely take place before.

Yeah, there's a story (Blueshift's latest) that refers to her as that, and seen her called Pluto as well, though both of those are for the animation error version. I like Alula best of all her names, but useful for the anim error variants to have a different one. She seemed like a good fit for the story, since we know she gets along with Diamond Tiara and more importantly, she's my favorite background filly.
This could of been a short feel good movie on how a father and daughter are so close, yet know so little about the other. Well, more like Mr. Rich, since DT even keeps track of his diet; That reaction to Filthy's question as he scarfed down an onion ring is exactly how any child would react who understood mortality on its basic levels.
DT was very bratty, very selfish, and overall very sweet and caring in this story. She slowly got to learn more about her Mom, and how much her Dad still thinks about her. To having to deal with not always being able to get what you want, and learning that what you want isn't always going make you happy in the end. DT was marvelously done throughout the story. <3
It really felt genuine on how the two really got to know each other, clearly, on a much more personal level like never before. From learning how much she takes after Filthy Rich's business sense, and DT afraid to lose him because he's too stubborn and doesn't care enough about his diet to want to change it... to live longer for her sake.
It felt like Mr. Rich has issues with losing his wife to a point he just drowns himself in work just to forget about her, which clearly meant missing out on a lot of time with his only daughter who's clearly growing up all too fast yet far from being mature.
Life is tough. Even money comes with its own problems.
Anyways, great story. A nice feel good parent and child bonding fic.
I am lucky enough to have both my parents but deep down I know I'll always be my father's daughter. Fics like this make me pause and remind him I love him. Thank you.
Brilliant Diamond Tiara story. It's very charming and heartfelt without being maudlin. Kudos for doing so much with Diamond and Silver where other bronies just dismiss them as bullies.
I guess if I haven't said it yet, I have to say now- I love your Diamond Tiara stories. Somebrony else already gave you a kudos for actually giving them three-dimensional characters rather than just characterizing them as bullies, and I would most certainly agree to that, as, in my opinion, nobody else writes DT and Silver Spoon as in-character as you do. It makes it a lot of fun to read, you come up with really unique story lines and clever puns ("Curio City" was probably the best thing I've ever seen this week) and, all-in-all, you seem to put in a bit of a unique, foalish air into the entire thing. So, Kudos to that.
One thing I wanted to point out, though, although this might have been written before Call of the Crusaders, where Spoiled Rotten became a major part of the cast-
DIAMOND TIARA'S MOTHER IS ALIVE.
But other than that, everything in this story is amazing, touching, and enjoyable! Good job!

8188380 Thanks. And yup, this story predates Spoiled existing by a couple of years (note the April 4, 2013 published date). The case for most of my stories, actually, hence why there generally is no mention of the mother, and if there is, she's obviously not Spoiled (and in the case of Somewhere, Fleur Dis Lee). Spoiled does feature in a couple of the more recent ones, though.
