Metool Bard

A weaver of tales who enjoys a good story. What more is there to say, really?

Somewhere in Equestria, there exists a letter penned long ago. Not a particularly extraordinary letter, mind you. It does not contain any ancient spells lost to the annals of time, nor cryptic warnings for future ponies to decipher. No, it is simply a message written by a sorrowful mare who just needed some guidance.

This is that letter.

I have a feeling she's talking about Starswirl the Bearded...

2271631 Why do you think I consider this a tragedy? :ajsmug:

This is very interesting. For a minute there you had me wanting to post a reply with comforts and promises of huggles.

Then I remembered it's clover the clever, she's probably dead :twilightoops:

2274237 Aye, there's the rub. :ajsleepy:

A very interesting concept, I think. It really brings Starswirl's failure into the realm of "this happened to a person," rather than the show's "this happened in the backstory."

It delivers a nice kick to the gut, and makes you think about it. :ajsleepy:

I gotta say, though, it feels like the idea deserves more story than just a thousand-word letter. I think you could really take this concept and run with it, if you wanted.

2321201 While I agree that Starswirl's failure is a concept worth exploring, the focus of this story was more so on Clover the Clever's helplessness. To that end, I feel that the story works better as a one-shot. :applejackunsure:

Aw man, I can't believe I'm only finding this story now...

This is a really good story - I like how much emotion you managed to convey in such a short space.

2717194 To be honest, I think the reason this was buried is because it was published and approved during FIMFiction's redesign downtime back in March. Eh, those are the breaks sometimes. :applejackunsure:

I'm glad you enjoyed it all the same.

Aw man! Clover's problem really tugs t your heart, doesn't it? I wonder how this conundrum was ever resolved, if indeed it was.

Regarding the spell that Starswirl was working on, is it the same one Celestia tells Twilight about before turning her into an alicorn?

2729886 Um, yes. That's, part of what makes this a tragedy. :ajsleepy:

Wow, unless I horribly missed the mark, what an outstanding take on Starswirl's final and failed spell that Twi later completed with friendship. God the irony of it is painful. I can't wait to read more of your stories now. If they are all like this, you got a bunch of fav's comin your way! :raritywink:

Wow. I just stumbled upon this through a string of links, and it's a WONDERFUL take on the origin of Starswirl's spell! Bravo!
