In a world where everypony's destiny is permanently emblazoned on their flank. Three young fillies seek the paths that belong to them. Little do they realize, the journey's destination is not always determined by the ones who walk it.

Not, really understanding the downvotes here. The idea's not new, sure, but as long as the story's good, why's that matter? I'll be watching this.

I know "insert pony's name here" is actually a changeling has been done to death ... but i haven't seen one for the CMC and even ran a few searches to see if i could find one ... i couldn't so i thought i'd try my hoof at it and i was a little proud of how this first chapter turned out ... i do hate my self a bit for killing Scoot's mom and slanderizing her dad like that, but i also wanted to try and address the reason we never seen any family for her ... so ... it became a tragic backstory that starts to be addressed early on

This is a pretty good beginning, except... I hope you're planning on revealing why Scootaloo's dad is being released--preferably it would have been stated in the first chapter, but the second chapter is the latest I'd accept. I get how Equestria might might be more leaning towards rehabilitation than punishment in criminal justice... but for murder? Kind'a hard to believe.

Yeah ... i kinda wrote myself into having to slog my way through the inner workings of Equestrian Law, but i wasn't planning on addressing that in-story until it got closer to time for the father-daughter chapter (likely the 3rd or 4th)

Basically what i'm thinking is something along the lines of a half-way program for good behavior ... has to live in the half-way house (and stay there every night), has to hold a job, can't purchase or own weapons, has to attend weekly group counseling and monthly psych-evals, can't leave the city (Canterlot), and the few members of the program are one slip-up away from returning to their dark dank cell for the rest of their sentence

2208321 , 2208597
It's also possible that some sort of plea bargain was involved. They never found the murder weapon, after all, and from what I can tell, any psych profile of Scootaloo's father would not have revealed him to have inclinations towards extreme violence, and it doesn't sound like they were able to establish a motive, so there's no way they had him on capital murder.

And, heck, this is the magical land of Equestria, where friendship is literally magical and love (and by extension, mercy and forgiveness) is a force so powerful that it could, in certain contexts, be considered a weapon of mass destruction. With all these facts in mind, as well as how important the concept of Harmony is to daily Equestrian life, I do not find "life imprisonment with the possibility of parole" in this case to be implausible or even unreasonable. Particularly if he's shown himself to be able to contribute meaningfully to society and has otherwise demonstrated that his time in prison has successfully "rehabilitated" him.

I'll buy that for a dollar.

All my hope that Tiara understands there are some things that are just off-limits.

2225111
No no no... It's Silver Spoon one has hopes for. Tiara is on the fast track of becoming either a crooked lawyer, a two-faced politician, or a five bit prostitute.

I'm glad to see someone finally solved the "how come a character is a changeling without their knowledge" issue by just using what the changelings of myth did - that is, substitution of babies.

Needs more. More often. With a lot more happening. :applecry:

i know ... i went on vacation and then when i came back work kicked me in the ass with training and lots of other junk ... that's why i put it "on hiatus"

but i'm getting back into the swing of things so hopefully i'll be able to start giving more regular updates ... i can make no promises because my muse is kinda touch and go at times ... but i will make a conscious effort

2446720 You should catch your muse, tie it up, and stuff it into a draw, closest, or someplace under the desk with ease of access! :pinkiecrazy:

“Greetings, your majesty.”

So not just a Changeling, but also royalty?!? Then why were her eyes a uniform blue? They should have had pupils.

Beautiful story. I can see a lot of time and effort put into making everything work out. Keep it up!:yay:

2470817
I'm going to try to get into Changling hierarchy as well as how the hive mind works (next chapter, which i promise i'm working on), but basically it's because she's not THE Queen ... she just has the potential for it

Interesting... I wonder if this means Scoots will hear or figure out what really happened with "her father", and what this will mean for his future: Will she defend him?... It would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, without revealing the whole truth, yet revealing the whole truth would require her revealing herself as a Changeling--probably a bad idea if she wants to live. -or not "take 'her father's' place" and be imprisoned for life (probably until starvation sets in...). If she's successful, though... this would rock the equestrian justice system to its core! -hopefully with an ultimately better-than-before result...

On another note, I'm really hoping this doesn't result in Scootaloo rejecting her real self and legacy. I've seen so many stories with that premise, many of them automatically assuming "Changelings are evil! -except the protagonist because PONIES!"... while usually ignoring that they set up the lore so that this "replace a pony at infancy" has been used for generations of Changelings. Oi... It doesn't seem so far as if you're going this way! -but one never knows if an author has an unpleasant surprise waiting...

I've got a cookie for anyone who can spot any references i've made up to this point. There aren't many, but they're there. I'll be interested to know who and how many of you watch and read some of the same things i do. :twilightsheepish:

I am so very happy that this is back on. It is, to say the least, relevant to my interests.

Changelings.

You understand.

The last one makes the most sense. Just saying.

Diamond Tiara rolled her eyes. “Tch, go call the guard then,” she said waving a dismissive hoof as she walked back to the classroom. “That’s what they’re there for.”

This should say they're.

Edit: Oops, it appears that I am unable to read. My bad. The author (as well as everyone who down voted this) is entirely correct in saying that I'm incorrect.

The two children nodded in confirmation. It was a little two quickly for Applejack’s liking, but she let it drop for now?

The question mark should not be there. The sentence should end in a period.

2832905 so it should be "that's what they are they are for"?

Wow. this story is nice. sorry about the low number of views and comments on your story. most people leave mature off because of clop.

and Pipsqueak looking a little ashamed for the part they were now playing in the mocking.

Sweetie Bell's eyes met Button and she blushed, hiding behind Applebloom’s mane

head throb with increased vigor at the question, like beetles were burrowing into her temple. But she shook her head no

I love how this story Is turning out!
The part about her being a "majesty" is intriguing.

I hope you will continue to update after I finish what you have written...

Changelings. changelings. changelings.

Also, if scootaloo is an immature queen, and her thoughts are more powerful than other changelings, then how did she hear applebloom and sweetie bell?

MOAR CHANGELING PRINCESSES!

Faved, liked, and tracked!

I cannot simply wait for new chapters! I MUST NEEDS DEMAND MOARS!

I love this. It is not often a mature story is not clop, so I applaud you for this mature awesomeness.

....Just wish there was more to read....

:rainbowlaugh: you have no idea how much this comment made me laugh ... almost makes me feel like i'm doing something right here :twilightsheepish:

This can only end in the extermination of all life kind.

...or a mental invasion of privacy. One of the two.

3140656
Random monster encounters can do that quite easily. Especially random high-level monsters.

For some odd reason, I love stories that make ponies out to be morally skewed, and by proxy I also love stories where said ponies are weaker [than Humans/Changelings/Etc.]
For me, they can be both or neither, but never just one (Weak and moral, Strong and Amoral)
So apropos to nothing, I hope the Ponies treat them like absolute shit, only to realize their fuckup and get their (Metaphorical) shit handed to them.
:duck:

3143569
lol ... what can i say? I'm pretty ruthless when it comes to GM'ing ... I like to think our 6 heroes have all been pretty lucky with their ventures into the Everfree for it being such a feared place in pony lore

Poor Scoots. no breaks for her apparently.

3144494
I wonder what other kind of crap they'll have to deal with coming from there.

3139215....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

*gets up, walks out*

FLUSH

*walks back in, and stares at the screen*

................................dammit, I hate Cliffhangers..........

Here's how I imagine some of my readers right now. (as well as Sweetie Bell if she were reading this)

3147687
:trixieshiftright: Either she hallucinated the end of last chapter...

:rainbowderp: ...or...

:twilightoops: Oh my Faust, Sweetie Belle is a Changeling, too?!?

:ajbemused: ...or they figure that lulling Scootaloo into a false sense of security is the best way to get her to slip up and reveal where the "Quote" real "Un-Quote" Scootaloo is being held. But that is sneakier than I give the Mane Six credit for, so I'm leaning towards option 2.

That's where you end the chapter?! Why, I oughta....

3148123
Well this isn't "Scootaloo the Changeling Queen" it's "Cutie Mark Crusaders Changelings" So one of the others has to be changeling too... Unless the title is a lie.

3154650
That was what I thought back in Chapter 1, but by Chapter 7 I was starting to think I was taking the title too literally.:unsuresweetie:

3154650>>3154796

I have been somewhat negligent of the other Crusaders in this story up till now, but that is going to change starting next chapter. When i first started i considered the idea of doing the first 3 chapters as a "This is how/when they were switched," but decided after the 2nd or 3rd chapter that Scootaloo's was going to be the only one because it broke the norm and the other 2 were markedly unspectacular or routine (of course the moment i write that my brain suddenly comes up with a potential idea for one of the others, so that may change ... ugh ... muse i want to kiss you and kill you in the same breath). It's just the way things have played out Scoots is, in a general sense at least, more important to the hive and thus she's going to be more prone to stealing the show from time to time. But, as i said, we're getting to the others starting next chapter.

3155139
...so, if I'm reading your post right, all three CMC were originally meant to be Changelings, but this was dropped in favor of only Scootaloo? :trixieshiftright: And then once you wrote out your post, you were inspired on how to make the other two CMC Changelings as well anyway? :facehoof:

...I'm confused. :applejackconfused:

Which is it, all three, or just Scoots? :twilightoops:

3156417
lol sry ... it's NOT just Scoots ... what i meant to say was that she was the only one i could come up with an "origin story" for.
