When a mysterious pocket watch is discovered inside Twilight's old doll Smarty Pants, the Mane Six find themselves on a quest to Canterlot and the Crystal Empire. The Elements of Harmony are once again at stake, as Twilight learns more about how the Elements came to be, which old nemesis is returning, and just where her foalsitter Cadance got the idea to create Smarty Pants in the first place.

2197957 If you mean changelings who do evil acts for the sake of being evil, then, no, I won't. Lately in my stories (the ones that have antagonists, anyway), I'm finding new ways of exploring character motivations and why some villains are the way they are, even if they're completely in the wrong.

2198017 Well, the way I look at it, creatures in Equestria that feed on emotions are just very specific predators. With the changelings, they feed on love. Maybe they're refugees from a land that's love-starved and find Equestria overflowing. Perhaps the changelings as a whole are just desperate to feed and look to their queen for guidance. I could see Chrysalis being more malevolent than the rest of her kind because she's royalty. She's more intelligent, more expressive, and more willing to do terrible things for the good of her species.

Hmn, so the love imprinted on Smarty Pants can be used to feed a changeling, and it doesn't wear out? If that's true for all dolls and stuffed animals and not just this one, this a discovery that should have a massive impact on changeling society. Famine? Big deal, just run a donation program in a few major cities for used toys, and you could feed the changeling hive forever.
That said, Smarty Pants is potentially a little extra special because of the Want It, Need It spell and because of the presence of Shining's future Element in the stuffing, so it remains to be seen if it is unique.
Bonus theory: Big Macintosh is a changeling.

Of all the Harmony bearers to be taken it just happen to be her... with naturally lying creatures, I'd say that was one large obvious signal I suppose. But, weren't they ALL targeted?
I don't know if it's intentional, but this chapter somewhat reads like they are only searching for one impostor. Considering changelings in general, and more specifically the changeling that tried to replace either Twilight (or Fluttershy, maybe, I'm unclear about which mare that one was after), that seems a little odd.

2322763 Your point's pretty valid. I wasn't planning on letting Twilight and Fluttershy be an item in this story and focusing more on the adventure itself, but I guess I couldn't help myself.
Rest assured, if I do any other adventure stories in the near future, I'll either tone down the shipping or try to make it more relevant to the plot. I don't like romances that weigh down the story, especially not in my own work.
