She/her!

T

Celebrating 100 mini-fics, 23 members of the AppleDash group collaborated on a single story based on a one word prompt, Desire. Each chapter is between 200 and 1500 words long, each written by a different author. Each author had 3 days to write their chapter before the story got passed on to the next author, who continued where the last person left off.

Applejack and Rainbow Dash return home from a day out visiting Rainbow's parents, but something is bothering Applejack: her own parents—or lack thereof. She wishes that Rainbow could have met her parents... but then, why can't she? Tartarus does exist, after all.

Each chapter of the fic went through only minor editing to ensure consistency with names and to correct grammar and spelling. Aside from that, each author was allowed to write in whatever style they chose.

I'm glad Tcher was able to nudge us into the right direction :ajsmug:

Psst, Krazy. We're missing a period: “They love you, AJ Just like I do.”

Ah, there it is. The traditional single grammar fault that escapes my editing upon uploading a story.

very cool, but not my thing. hope it goes well, just the chance for failure in collabs is generally higher then normal. so if i pick this up, it will be once it is completed and i have asked around if it got messed up or not. here is to hoping it turns out amazing.

I see. :derpyderp1: Well, this could be interesting. I wonder what this thing'll look like come my shot.

this is going to be a BLAST! XD

Interesting so far. This is an ambitious premise for a project like this. You're laying the groundwork for a potentially huge adventure, hefty world building, and some mature and emotional themes of death and acceptance. I don't know of any author that could accomplish all of that in 1000k word shorts.

Good luck. The rest of you are going to need it.

Yesss! Break the line between life and death for luuuuv! :ajsmug::rainbowkiss:

2199717
1000k?

Million word chapters?! :rainbowderp:

I like where this is going.

2242773
She! And indeed. Although it wasn't so much a thought that formed when Dash first gave her idea... this seems to develop as she finds more info. There's still trepidation, but she's determined.

Don't worry, we've got a ball from Pinkie Pie! <-- Oh Celestia, we're all gonna die!

Love this. Yes yes. :pinkiehappy:

Interesting, interesting... :twistnerd:
So AJ's worried about her parents' souls, huh? Is this just a regular, unmitigated but unavoidable worry that you get when loved ones are involved in something potentially hazardous to their well-being, or does she know something bad that they did? :pinkiecrazy:
Nah, I'm sure it's definitely just the former! :rainbowdetermined2:
Maybe. :fluttershyouch:
Who knows? :derpyderp1:
Imma stop now. :facehoof:

Considering how serious this plot might become, it's nice to see a funny chapter. The dialogue also feels really natural.

2258747 Relevance, relevance everywhere...
:rainbowderp::heart::ajsmug:

So is Applejack really going to be dressed as Daring Do for the remainder of the story? That's very... odd. And a little hilarious.

I'm curious to see what form the judgement of souls is going to take. Who's doing the judging? What's the criteria for deciding which souls are good and which are bad? What happens to the bad souls? Though, I can't imagine Applejack's parents were condemned to the bad part of tartarus.

2258747

And soon it will get relevanter!

:trixieshiftright::trixieshiftleft: What? It's a word. :trollestia:

I'm not sure how seriously I'm going to be able to take this as long as Applejack is wearing that costume. She can't be wearing it when she meets her parents at least, right? Assuming that happens.

Very nice bit of atmosphere setting there at the beginning. I suppose these slice of life scenes must be coming to an end to make way for the adventuring, too bad. Though, is there a reason for no adventure tag? Or is this not becoming the dramatic journey to Tatararus I was expecting?

2276255
I'm updating the tags as necessary. While it looks like an adventure so far, it may not end up being one.

I love the hat thing. I've seen it in several fics were AJ gives her hat to a friend as a sign of trust, and it always gets me.

2285749 :twilightblush: Gawsh...
I mean, it's basically just filler, but someone else likes it so that's ok then!

2286226

Perhaps in terms of the adventure itself, but you snuck in some nice character development.

2286226>>2286247
Character development was somewhat missing until now. This is an excellent chapter! :pinkiehappy:

This is easily the best chapter so far. A lot of character and emotion, but in a small number of words, a perfect example of good word economy.

2286247>>2287057>>2288344 Well thanks, you guys, I'm glad you like it!
Here, have some trains:

Hey, I really liked this chapter! It's short, sweet pieces like these, with plenty of good characterization brought just from private musings and little snippets of conversation, that really make a story fun to read, and write!

Now I wish I hadn't had one of the starting-chapters, I'd have liked to do something like this one!

2291463 I was considering linking in the story itself, but decided against it! :trollestia:

Sorry I'm a bit late posting this chapter. I've been sick and went to bed early, completely forgetting to hit the submit button. :twilightsheepish:

Oooooooooooh... :pinkiegasp:
What a :twistnerd:

Shit just got real. :rainbowderp:

Tcher and First Down's ideas made this plot story a lot more interesting. :rainbowdetermined2:
AppleDashLuv's addition to AJ's wardrobe definitely spiced things up, too . :ajsmug:

A half day late again. Sorry! I'll be getting back on track with the next entry. Promise. :twilightsheepish:

Yay! Y'all are doing a great job, I look forward to the updates on this. :pinkiehappy:

Good to see Bucky and Kicks doing their jobs. :ajsmug:

Take a bite out of Dash! :rainbowhuh:

Well, that's disappointing, and a bit anticlimactic after that encounter with the changelings. Oh well, here's to hoping Braeburn will get to throw around a few more long-winded 'Aaaaapeloosa's.

2341874
Twists and turns, all day long! I didn't remove the changelings or anything (and theoretically, Tartarus is still accessible), so I'm hoping someone moves this along in an even more interesting direction.

Unfortunately, our last entrant has been offline for a couple weeks and had not completed an entry, so the last update was skipped. Steel Resolve picks up here where we left off last and the schedule will continue as planned. :ajsmug:

2341874
I do believe you will find your fears (and disappointment) unfounded with this latest chapter. Caved in or not, there's always room for even more exciting adventure! I'm really enjoying this latest twist on things.

2366364 was it the trip to the underworld, or the devil playing let's make a deal?

...Just like that? This was unsatisfyingly easy. The ruler of the dead standing out in the open, playing fetch with Cerberus is just absurd enough to make sense, and the deal with the devil was interesting, but jeez was her parents' appearance abrupt.

Nice bit of back story for their relationship though, and that parallel was almost brilliant.

Holeee crap! I knew you'd give us something awesome.

Back to Tartarus we go! :fluttershbad:

Must not say it, must not say it...

If Rainbow can see the gates, she must be...

at death's door.
