What happens if Princess Luna is never returned to normal? If the Elements of Harmony didn't purge her of Nightmare Moon, if instead they destroyed Nightmare Moon and any hope for Celestia to reunite with her sister?
For Celestia, it means many nights of the deepest sorrow and regret.
And for Twilight Sparkle.. it means a trip through time itself.

I can understand wanting to leap right into the action, but the utter lack of exposition here is terrible and wrong.

You can't just expect people infer what's going on from the description. See, the description doesn't exist. Pretend it doesn't. Any exposition given in the description must be in the story itself as well.

That first bit, expand on it.

Also, did Twilight just telefrag that monster? Fucking rad.

That is part of the story - you will see what happened in greater detail as time passes. Trust me, my next chapter will be up in a few days and it will clear lots of things up. I do understand where you are coming from though.
