Obsequiosity

E

"Then Twilight looked up at me with this shattered look, and I realized....
Her foal is dead on account of I let him realize that we’re all just Winonas."

The first draft was a co-bronze-medalist in the the MLPChan /fic/ writeoff for December 2012.

The talented Ponychan /art/ denizen Spirit Shine provided us with a beautifully poignant portrait of Spike's First New Year's Alone as a picture prompt (also: was gracious enough to let me use the image as a cover). I ran with it and decided to have Applejack kill Spike.

It's not as bad as it sounds. Luna's there to keep him company.

The feels... all my liquid pride is leaking profusely... :raritycry:

Thanks for commenting. Hope it wasn't too sappy...

Dat description.

This is beautiful... But why is Woona dead?

She's not dead, just kicked out of the dream that ended, and back in the stars-as-sand void between dreams she describes in the first part.

Poorly written on my part.

If you can't write a good story, write a good intro blurb, I suppose...

oh...for a moment there I thought he was really dead! lovely story!

This is, in turns, beautiful and devastating. A work that really makes you think, and want to go hug someone you love. Masterfully done.

Bucking... :fluttercry:GAH!! These are not tears, they are a mans relief!!:fluttershbad: that was so touching, I think I felt my heart beat for a second. I'm glad Spike didn't die... Now I want to go hug an old guy.

2150074 Gosh, why did you write that !? Man, now I know its not gonna be too bad

I know I am a guy, but this brough tears to my eyes, both sad and happy tears. I loved this. Great job Obsequiosity.:pinkiesad2::pinkiehappy:

"Devastating" was about the nicest thing anyone could have said. Thank you for that.

At first, my reaction to the description was,

Then I read the story
Then im like

Thanks. The theme's been done to death, but in my more narcissistic moments, I'd like to think the title conceit was clever. :)

And this, folks, is where my heart ceases to palpitate.

Well done work, truly.

Thank you. Hope it wasn't too sappy or treacly or what have you. I am horrible at subtlety.

I cried. And then I cried. And then I cried some more.:raritycry:

Glad you liked it. (Sorry for the late reply; I'm more of a draw-er than a writer but when inspiration strikes I throw stuff up here.)

this story always manages to get a few tears flowing.

Beautiful!:pinkiesad2:

Such a devastating take on immortality !! POOR SPIKE !!!

As it's nearly a decade since the author logged in, I won't address them directly. But I reviewed this recently and I was pleased to see the dual-narrator concept handled nicely, with pleasingly distinct voices for the two. A beautifully sad moment with Sweetie's comments about the come-to-life spell, too. Unfortunately the Twilight-related twist is too convenient and the story jumps around a bit too much to find its focus.
