Guardian_Gryphon

Call me Gryph for short, if you like. In-case the avatar, the name, and the themes of my stories didn't make it apparent; big Gryphon fan here.

This story is a sequel to Hegira: Option Gamma

Not everyone can accept change. But sometimes, failing to do so is an unthinkable decision. Sometimes, intractability leads to war.

So often conflict has been driven by the selfish, or the fearful; but never before has the fate of an entire species been at stake.

Billions of lives are at risk.

Six friends face change in their own ways... But will they be the right ways?

Book Two of the Hegira Trilogy - This story only takes MLP G4 Seasons 1 - 3 as cannon, and ignores 4 and onwards.

Welcome to the wild rumpus. I hope everyone is going to enjoy riding the roller-coaster as much as I'm enjoying making it.

And here we go~ */Joker*

Mwahahaha <3

Yes.
Hell yes.
Hell fucking yes.

Oh jeez. You make griffons fucking terrifying. Seriously, that's the kind of vindictiveness I'd expect from Raiders from the Fallout universe, not this Proud Warrior Race.

I will read this as soon as I get back from lunch.

We are not your cutesy little 'angry birds.'
We tend to like to make examples of major offenders.

foul-mouthed 'Celesthulu' rhetoric

I do like Hutch's way with words... Nice intro to the setting; I don't think Option Gamma is required reading yet, but let's see how well you intro the characters in later chapters.

2229206
Well I'm trying to re-summarize (in 'brief') to make sure nothing comes as a surprise to OG readers that shouldn't have come as a surprise.
I still don't feel the full effect of the characters is present if one hasn't read OG, but we'll see how it goes.

Achievement Get: Witty Response

TRIPLE KILL. :rainbowlaugh:

2229315
*hoof waggles* IMO, a good sequel can be read on its own, but may inspire someone to read the earlier book.

2229376
Well, just because it *can* be read on its own does not mean that the *best* experience comes from reading it on its own.
*Shrug* Matter of perspective I s'pose.

2229411
Spartans never die George; they just push X to respawn in 15 seconds.

Once again I'm reminded why I loved your gammaverse to begin with. You sir are a sculptor of words, and I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Fyrenn dodged a particularly fierce blow, and twirled the lower end of his bow, the hidden blade snapping out and finding a path thru a weakness in the offending Lupine's armor. The blow didn't immediately kill the Diamond Dog, but it bought Fyrenn the time to spin the weapon in reverse and bury the second blade in the canine's skull.

- *through

Always did love a good bar brawl.

Stan kicked at one of the wooden ties with a hoof; the oblong braces were laid out in a cross-crossing pseudo-diamond pattern, rather than the traditional parallel bars seen in Earth's history, and favored by Ponies, "How can *you* tell?"

- You want a period where that comma is.

This signs said everything from, 'EARTHGOV = PER' to 'GOD HATES DIAMOND DOGS.' The angry crowd was a combination of paranoid or wronged persons still upset over the results of the Diamond Dog Conversion scandals, and disenfranchised low-income workers who could not afford the new moving tax, but also had no desire to Convert.

- *These or *The

I have to say, the scale, grandeur, and... well as Dash would say: "Awesomeness" is simply astounding. I look forward to reading more.

So many references! I'm pretty sure I spotted Borg and Hulkbuster references in there, and I'm currently trying to decide if Loryss is inspired by Dolores Umbridge. If she is I am quite prepared to shift all of my hatred onto her - Umbridge is easily one of my most despised characters ever.

2230945
Yes to the first, yes to the second, there is also a Buzz Lightyear nod tucked in somewhere, and yes to Loryss, although there is a great deal of Mrs. Parker from the Pretender (all the bad bits) as well as Congresswoman Bobbi Latham from JAG. If you think you hate her now? Just you wait.

The encouragement is always appreciated, and I'm glad everyone is enjoying things so far. :pinkiehappy:

Halo music. All I can say is: Yes. All of my yes. :pinkiehappy:

BTW, who did that pic?

2231259
Fyrenn, in the foreground, comes from an image done by my insanely talented sister, who resides here.
I photoshopped the background.

any chance we'll get to see a dragonization? i mean a controlled one not a HLF one.

2229417
30 seconds if they team kill.

Aaahh, it's great to see the group together again. But I need sleep... Will finish tomorrow

Noooo, don't put Luna in charge! That's how Fallout Equestria happens! :pinkiegasp:

Earth Ponies... well... their 'buck' could hit with enough force to shatter even a teryllium/carbon-alloy chest plate.

mmmmmmmmmmm...... nah :ajbemused: If that actually happened then a lot of earth ponies won't be mere plebians, they can't even break a clay wall.

how does stan manage to break the sound barrier at that? even rainbow dash had quite a hard time to do so.

2233016
There is a difference between supersonic and creating an actual sonic boom in Equestria.
Pegasus innate magic holds the forces that normally cause a boom in to fuel added speed until mach 4.

Once Mach 4 is broken (as you mentioned, an insanely difficult feat) this force is released violently as the fields holding it in dissipate. The shock-wave carries the remnants of the unique magic field outwards, creating the distinctive patterns.

2233029
What gave you the idea that they are flying at mach 4?

2233168
I'm guessing the mach cone seen before Rainbow Dash hits rainboom speeds.

Also: random idea inspired by the diamond dog train: a Zebra steam locomotive, with built in espresso maker. Among other things, it means the trains can go all day and all night long, with alert engineers.

Also also, seeing how ponies seem to be more comfortable growing stuff than mining, I can see them using more bio fuels (like wood charcoal) than the fossil fuels that diamond dogs likely use.

2230968
You should keep a record of all the references you make in the story, then release the full list once the story is complete so we can play a Where's Wally style game of find-the-reference in the interim between tales.

2233795
My guess is that Ponies are willing to trade for coal.

Zebra are more likely to use wood products since they have fewer inhibitions about responsible forestry. Ponies are just plain knee-jerk opposed to cutting down trees in any way shape or form.

2234711
I have a fairly comprehensive mental tally for all my works so far.

I can only imagine how irritating Matthas Korvan is going to be for whatever Equestrian political institution he becomes embroiled in later in life. That is assuming he decides to cut his losses and reach for the potion.

Also, Roughshod was adorable.

Korvan may actualy for once in his life giving General Hutch a warning just so He will be prepared for eye searing dressed new councilar.

isn't hutches job currently a joint thing of earth gov and equestria seeing as he is somewhat connected to the bureau's?

a new case of modified stun grenades with secondary EMP charges to disable potion dispersers

Wondering if I inspired this one... Good chapter, even if not much plot progression; establishing character is even more important for a good story, IMO.

2238473
Rest assured; you have not seen the last of Matthas Korvan, or his ill deeds. :trixieshiftright:

2239426
Even if the information is good, Korvan is still a stinker who did what he did merely out of petty spite.

2239501
Yes, the JRSF, which is why he has an office at the Bureau and at Fort Hamilton both.

2240339
Mmmm, in my mind the characters drive the plot, and experiencing the plot shapes the character progression, so character building advances the plot, and advancing the plot builds the foundations for character progression. :moustache:

NEW CHAPTER! <squee> This'll tide me over nicely until I can read the rest in 3 months or so. Keep up the good work, and Semper Fi, GG.
Sncerely, Private Dogfood McGluestick, USMC.

While I generally don't comment often... anywhere... I couldn't help but notice "Compound Recurve Bow" which, as far as my knowledge of Archery works... isn't any type of bow as the power would be drawn from the Pullies and cables (Compound) or the bending of the frame (Recurve) for the power up to the limit of the frame to handle...

That aside I may as well take the time to convey that I have found all of the gammaverse as I have read so for to be quite enjoyable. Do continue the excellent work!

2242935
A terrible admission; Fyrenn's story in OG about nearly shooting an archery instructor in the foot is actually my only experience with a bow, sadly. :rainbowlaugh:
(It was a compound bow, from your description, and I was nine. It was strung at the tension for a fifteen year old.)

I probably did mix my terms badly. :twilightblush:

That said; your encouragement is much appreciated, as is your technical advice!

2241407
Three months? Yikes!
Heck I might be over half-done by then, or even completely done since once semester ends, I'll be free-er to write.

soaking up the warmth of the moment he had been party to creating.

Should that be "partly" ?

Also, I have an idea for the HLF: Anti-Magic weapons.

2231968 Only based upon a twisted version of Luna, made through speculations and assumptions. The Luna in this story seems more calculating, peaceful, and not as rash. Plus, the events leading up to the war were more dire and ridiculous, compared to this.

Remember, Assume- it makes an Ass of U and Me!

EDIT: I know you're just joking though... lol!

Sue

This is the first fic iv'e ever read in which it mentioned Dublin.

2243632 Hm, well, 'party' can also be defined as:

a person or group participating in an action or affair <a mountain-climbing party> <a party to the transaction>

So it would be correct. Ya learn something everyday.

2243632
Anti-magic has been part of the plan for a while now, but it doesn't work like everyone is expecting.

2252717
The most important takeaway here is: NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY. :pinkiecrazy:

2253010
Let's see if it gets so unique that it deserves a mention on TVtropes.

No fish at all?

So, we have a bead on Fyrenn, Kephic, Varran, Carradan, and Neyla, but what about Skye? Where is that little hacker pony, and what is she getting up to?

Innnteresting... I'd been wondering how the 'strict requirements for gryphon potion' would interact with the new laws Re: not splitting families.

2238336 After some further consideration... There are a number of softwood trees, (pine, fir, etc) that will drop branches in a high wind. With large enough tree farms, I can see that being a major source of biofuels for ponies. And remember, the pony option is going to likely attract a lot of 'Green' humans, who wouldn't want to repeat the mistakes of earth, including adding huge amounts of carbon to the biosphere, an issue that biofuels wouldn't have.

So, have you ever thought about borrowing some ideas from other stories? Like the pegasus wing blades that appear in the Winningverse, or the fragmented unicorn swords that were in The Immortal Game? Maybe some clever converts on the frontier, dealing with some trouble. . .
