Ascension to Alicornhood. For thousands of years it had been thought impossible. How was it that the unicorn mare would have been able to achieve something that had never been done before? Princess Luna knows, and she will do anything to keep the knowledge from getting out.
This is the story of an alicorn, an insane unicorn king and his allies, and a unicorn filly. This is also the story of the world's newest alicorn, and how she is connected to it all.

Interesting premise-- I could see that being possible, yeah!
Ok, now I have three competing headcanons. This is one of them. In another, Discord sparks Luna's fall to darkness. In the third, Sombra, just before he was defeated by the princesses, throws a final insult at Luna, which causes her to realize that the night was unapreciated.

Honestly, the idea of Twilight being the descendent of King Sombra has been lurking around my mind since the season premier. She used his spells so easily that I started wondering, and the idea wouldn't leave me alone. While we didn't get to see too much of him, King Sombra seemed like he was a pretty powerful unicorn, and that his power would have passed down through his descendants, at least partially.
At first I had thought that the mother of Twilight's ancestor would have been a crystal pony, but then she became an alicorn, which, sure, might have been possible with magic, but it would make more sense if somewhere in her family tree, she had actually had an alicorn ancestor. That's where the idea for having Luna be the female ancestor came in.
Hopefully that makes sense, and wasn't too out-there of an idea.

2132437 I also have a headcanon where he is her great grandfather. In that particular headcanon, his pregnant unicorn wife got caught in the statis spell he cast on the Crystal Empire, but she got out early. Her daughter becomes Twilight's grandmother.
(I am not interested in canons that fire heads out the barrel.)

I would doubt that Celestia wouldn't know Twilight's blood line intimately.Heck I would expect she Knew Twilight Obsidian personally, possibly even being the one who got her out of the empire before Sombra was vanquished. Also i think Twilight could handle the idea she descend from Sombra, she's smart enough to realize what our ancestors did does not define us and Sombra needed to go down.

It's coming up, I'm just in kind of an awkward position at the moment since I'm in the middle of filing a ton of paperwork for a two-month overseas trip, and my final exams are coming up. I have to write three papers (one in Japanese), and I don't have a ton of time to do... really, much of anything else.

Pretty good overall. The constant references to diamond dogs (not) eating ponies were getting a little annoying by the end, and there were a few parts that weren't really necessary (ponies don't like diamond dogs. We get it), but it was still an enjoyable read.
I can't help but notice that she failed to mention that fact that THERE'S ANOTHER COURT to the petitioners.
