Yes, because the princesses aren't immensely powerful beings that control the sun and moon. All they'd have to do is park the sun over Equestria for a day and use solar magic to wipe out all opposition.
Also, if the princesses did get taken out, and all the unicorns get taken out, ponykind and all of the planet Equestria is on is now dead. Because the sun and moon are now fixed in place.

No one is immortal, son. If they did that it could kill them too. You can't focus on killing 80 when they charge you. Not even the Sun and Moon princesses could kill a battalion of combat-trained pegasi all at once.

It's not a matter of being immortal, it's a matter of the princesses being powerful enough to not even be able to be touched.
80 trained pegasi charging at you? Hit them with a cone of concussive force and wipe up the remains. Or shield yourself and wipe them out with an area spell. Or teleport elsewhere and magic nuke the site from a distance.

I mean seriously if I just typed up a huge wall of text for no reason you would just get sick of reading and go read a better story that doesn't involve the genocide of an entire species because one of them tried to defend themselves against an attacker, and the element of loyalty PERSONALLY MURDERS SEVERAL OF HER MOTHERFUCKING FRIENDS. Of course, Celestia and Luna are hiding like little bitches because, you know, being the leaders they are they couldn't just explain what actually happened and calm down the ponies who were angry. Because, you know, ponies aren't accepting and understanding ever. And even if that wasn't the case, they are still incredibly powerful and would be able to at least hold back a crowd long enough to escape..

If One L. Goh going on a murderous shooting spree in a school couldn't make the US go genocidal on all South Koreans, then I have trouble that a single self defense case could do shit here.
