Better to be too hot or too cold as opposed to lukewarm. I want each story I write to leave an impact on the reader. An author may leave their readers feeling happy, sad or angry. The most important thing is for them to walk away from the story feeling something.
(In my case, they usually start feeling something while reading.)
The fact that you seem transfixed with 120 Days of Blueblood tells me that it left an impact on you.
