A day in the life explores the life of several ponies over a single 24 hour period over a series of 17 short stories. These stories are only related to the fact they take place in the exact same day.

Luna faces boredom, Pinkie Pie makes a late night snack, Applejack has trouble sleeping, a look inside one of Spike's dreams, Rarity getting an early start to her day, Celestia raising the sun to start a new day, Celestia and Luna having breakfast-dinner together, Twilight planning her day, Rainbow Dash going to work, Fluttershy having lunch with her animals, Twilight's job as a librarian, Rainbow Dash finishing work, Celestia fixing the tax code, Rarity's trip to the spa, Pinkie Pie making a large order of cakes, a dinner with the Apple family, and Celestia and Luna having dinner-breakfast together.
