It has been one year since the events of Shadows Watching and Princess Cadence has resumed her duties, while still overseeing the development of one Twilight Sparkle. However, shadows are again gathering in Equestria, this time in the city of Los Pegasus, and it's up to our heroine to set things right.
Undercover as a military cadet at the Hummingbird Flight School, she will unravel a plot that has been in the works for decades and discover some unexpected allies along the way, in this, the second of the trilogy of medium-rare comedy and well-done adventure.

Oh salty, salty, salty...

What could this be?

NOOOO, NOT RAINBOW DASH AND FLUTTERSHY MISS-I'M-TOO-PARANOID-TO-GIVE-MY-LAST-NAME-TO-THE-GOOD-DOCTORS!!! YOU HAVE TO SAVE THEM, CADENCE! THEY'RE TWO OF THE SIX:fluttercry:! Umm, right:twilightblush:?

Anyway, amazing story here, kinda plowed through the first one overnight on Thursday. Also, interesting idea, making Cadence a sword master (I'm kinda counting past lives here...), you don't see too many ponies able to hold, much less wield, a sword.

Which is not to say fan art never depicts swords as a thing that exists, they just never seem to be holding them...

(Phew...finally got through this chapter...not sure why it took so long for me to read it, but:facehoof:...)

Maybe it's just me, but that rune...sphere...block...polyhedron...thing and how it was inside the demon beast creatures kinda reminded me of the Chuchus in Majora's Mask and how you could see what they drop inside them (although it's not that helpful in determining which one you should go after based on what you need at any given time since they're color-coded anyway). I'm wondering, though, if it gave them super-demon-beast powers.

Also, am I right to be a bit...paranoid about Midnight:pinkiecrazy: (I mean, with her being one of the few sword-wielding ponies, with Cadance being another one, it seems pretty logical for Midnight to be a rival/arch-enemy character)?

That's more of a Japanese cultural trope. Not really the style I'm going for.

2207137 Well, to tell the truth, I was an "otaku" before becoming a pega-sister (I still am a bit of one in fact, though the obsession with Japanese media has started to wane a bit as I focused more of my attention on cute, talking, pastel equines. There's only so many hours in the day after all:raritydespair:!), so it shouldn't be surprising I assumed the worst about Midnight at first (I'd apologize to her, but I don't think she even knows or cares:pinkiecrazy:).
(Incidentally, I put "otaku" in quotes because I know that word is offensive to some, due in part to the fact that mainstream Japanese society tends to view anime/video game/what-have-you nerds like mainstream American society views Trekkies, or for that matter Bronies, except more so, if anything. Also, sorry I didn't respond till now, but I only just saw this comment. Yeah, wasn't notified of it, possibly due to the fact that your response was on a different chapter than my previous comment:twilightblush:...?)

I use the meta-story box to reply. My guess is that FimFiction simply assumes all story-page comments are the final chapter, as opposed to responses to a specific person when I click the reply button on that person's comment.

These stories are criminally underread

I don't know about you, but I can't read these anymore. The sentence structure and the show-dont-tell and the characterization - I can't do it. That said, if you want to spread it around, be my guest.

Delightful cabbage rolls, seared with evil! XD
