I read the summary, but didn't piece together it would be like THAT, until after the supposed sex scene. 
Sorry, but even though I like Shining Armor and Cadence as a couple and reading stories with them, gonna have to downvote this, cause Cadence is kind of a bitch here, for being a so-called Princess/Goddess of love. 
I personally think this story warrants a gore tag, if only for the implications/writing of said scene, even if it would turn people off, with the characters listed.
But it's your call...
Edit: Okay, so against better judgment, I looked up castration pics on an MLP pic-centric site and probably see that you got the idea from one with Shining Armor and Cadence. Still... it doesn't make this any less disturbing, like some gore fics I have read in all my time reading MLP ones (I hardly read ones in other fandoms/types of stories, as I recall). *shudders*

What a lovely story with such a happy ending. I like to see practical and compassionate solutions to intractable problems. Cadence is a princess, she should make this mandatory with a 'One Foal, Two Snips' rule. Really made my day.

I know what picture this is based on in this story. Why you would ever do a story like that, I have no idea. I could go on about how OOC Cadence is and how disturbing and sick this is, but I'm not going to. All I can say is, this story is just disgusting and shouldn't have been made at all.

This shit is neither touching nor heartfelt, as for "unconventional", I can think of a few other words that describe this more accurately. "Painful", "disturbing", and "revolting" all come to mind quite readily.

OK so apparently someone has a terribly fucked up moral compass i mean really what was with that scene, even if this story was meant to be a troll to the readers it still fell flat completely. The fact that cadence being the supposed alicorn of love would objectify her husband in such a manner is just ridiculous this makes her out to be an emotionally unstable sociopath.
last time i checked love was supposed to be an equilibrium two lovers equal to one another, this story insinuates cadence thinks of shining the same way a man thinks of his Labrador and yes i understand shining cheated on cadence and that is a terrible thing that is fixed with therapy or perhaps moving on not cutting the others nut sack out and mental domination you utter psychopath!
Other than that though good job on the chapter well worded and i couldn't spot any grammatical errors seemed to have a good structure as well

very well written however I think you might be a little misinformed because castration does not remove all male sexual desire or ability when it's done to an adult that's only an effect of doing it to someone who has not sexually matured it just greatly reduces the libido of an adult like Shining Armor; still, I imagine Shining Armor would be pretty mad At Cadence after he finds out what she did combined how testicles play the essential part of stimulating the clitoris by slapping it during sex so Shining despite still getting erections would no longer be able to please Cadence I imagine it would no doubt inevitably lead to their divorce.
