I'm increasingly of the opinion that Twilight's Element is Friendship, not Magic - people just take the wrong idea from her declaration that "Friendship is magic!" and that her special talent is magic. However, her behaviour shows that friendship is very important to her - being at harmony with those around her is a very important thing for her to the point where the thought of losing it or betraying it can drive her mad.
So, maybe, just maybe, it isn't inconceivable that she would have wished to extend her Element to Discord, a being who surely could never have wanted, felt or shared it.
