ArgonMatrix

I've never seen a place that's quite like this. Everything is turned around; this crazy world is upside down.

Twilight learns the hard way that certain priorities will always outclass others, and the obligations she has to her friends should always come first.

Just so you know, I didn't do much editing at all on this story. I basically sat down for a night and just wrote it. I might go back and edit it at a later date, but for now just let it stand as an example of my raw, unadulterated writing skills, good or bad. Enjoy!

Shall there be more of this?

I have two more chapters to finish which should resolve things. I'll try to get them up by later this afternoon.

Sorry. I just don't accept the basic premise of the story.

Little Miss Twilight "I have my life scheduled out precisely a month in advance" Sparkle would have definitively put Spike's birthday on her calendar at least...

Heck - I'm amazed she didn't even LOOK at her schedule for the day before she dropped everything to go to Canterlot.
~~~~~~~~~
I suppose a possible solution for that is for her to look at her schedule in chapter 1, see that she has nothing planned for the day (because she originally planned to spend it with Spike) and go "hmm - I wonder why I have nothing planned for today. But that's perfect! It gives me a chance to go up to Canterlot...."
You could even have a "Now I remember! I left my schedule for today blank so Spike could pick what he wanted to do" moment in Chapter 7...
It still leaves the "I forgot Spike's birthday" effect but at least throws that lifeline towards her obsessive scheduling...
I actually do have an explanation planned out to solve this issue in Chapter 9 (which should be the final chapter), but you're completely right. As it stands, it makes little sense with her obsessive nature.
:fluttercry::raritycry::applecry: This is quite sad
I honestly don't think that twi would ever forget spikes birthday, but meh, it's your story.
Heh, "gloomy twilight."
After the bellicose belligerent that was the civil war, America hit a period of prosperity known as The Industrial Revolution. The Industrial revolution was a shifting point in American history, turning it from an agricultural farmland, into a paragon of producing profitable paraphernalia, creating the economic epitome of evolution that our country would eventually become. However there was many a dark side of this period of progression.
Prior to the Bessemer Process, steel was a difficult and impractical product to manufacture, making it more of a luxury than a building material. This all changed when Henry Bessemer, an English inventor/engineer, invented a quick easy way to convert iron into steel. Through underhanded tactics, such as spies and bribery, the Bessemer Process found it’s way into America, and paved the way for the Industrial Revolution. Along with the Bessemer Process, the steam engine was an enormous part of the progression of our nation, providing means of not only transportation, but also oil rigs, another staple of American advancement.
The Industrial revolution was both the literal and figurative railroad spike in the tracks that helped move the raging locomotive that was America. The literal sense of this metaphorical statement lies in the locomotives that spread their way across America. Locomotives, more colloquially known as choo choo trains, provided swift transportation for people and cargo alike.
Steel is an example of such cargo. Perhaps the most important asset to America, steel was a strong metal that allowed for higher buildings. This enabled cities to not only grow out, but also up. Creating factories, and new jobs for the American people, which also helped manage the influx of immigration.
There was however, a darker side to the industrial revolution. With the invention of factories, wasteful biproducts were being produced by the lungful. In addition, lack of child labor laws(or labor laws in general) meant that big wigs could hire anyone they wanted, and not be held liable for whatever sad fate befell the unfortunate employee.
Structuring, while more stable for the most part, was also dangerous. There weren't any zoning laws at the time, meaning that houses would often collapse, forcing families into homelessness. Parents would abandon their children to lower living expenses. Many men had to turn the crime just to make ends meet, and the plumbing was so bad that many people had to expel their waste via a window. While the economy was booming, the individual people were suffering.
In conclusion, the Industrial Revolution was a necessary evil that helped turn our nation into the powerhouse it is today. Transportation was improved, buildings reach the sky, and technology became better than ever.
Dash's "two-way street" line has much more impact now that we have some context. It's cool to see her sticking up for Spike and acknowledging how much of himself he devotes to Twilight.
I gotta say, though, I hate the idea of Spike and Twilight having a mother-son relationship. I hate it with a passion. They're good friends and there's not that big of an age gap between them. Do people seriously think a little filly would be allowed to raise a newborn? If there's any familial bond between them, it's a sibling one.
My heart broke as soon as I read the words
“Happy Birthday Spike”
... Nice essay, but... Why?
I am afraid this whole "forget your friend's birthday" fiasco is getting out of hand. We know Twilight has OCD, but they cant seriously expect her to NEVER make a mistake, be it big or small. Heck, even Pinkie forgot her own birthday and almost had a mental breakdown, and she is the queen of parties and remembers everyone's birthdays.
Argon...Matrix..where have I heard that name befo-!
Looks like I've been found out! Indeed, both ArgonMatrices are one in the same.
hehe, "gesticulating."
Oh my God, you're really THAT ArgonMatrix? I love the Mario Galaxy 2 race you have with Super Jeenius!
...Somewhere, a history teacher is asking themselves, "Why did Nunchucks write 'ponies ponies ponies ponies' as her answer to the essay question on my exam?"
:facehoof: Dates are important but honestly people forget get over it. Good story.
Not too bad, but it seems kind of odd that NOPONY would tell Twilight what happened. the first half of the story is just recycling the Mane Five telling Twilight to buzz off. I'm looking forward to the resolution, but it took way too long to say so little.
So I've Gotten this far and all I can think is that Twi's friends are a bunch of bitches...
Yeah. All I get from this is that All of Twi's friends (including Spike) refused to tell her what was wrong, refused to hear her side of the story, refused to clarify details and assumed it was a cruel and intentional joke on Twilight's part, and refused to take into account Twilight's feelings or motivations in the matter. If my friends did this to me I'd find me some new friends. Yes, Twilight forgetting a birthday (unlikely as that is I will withhold my riteous fury until the promised chapter of explanations) Was a dick move and I'd assume one or two of her friends would be outright angry (especially spike) But all 6 of them refusing to listen to her at all and pretty much destroying her emotionally is utter nonsense.
1802896 Hypocrisy is a guilty pleasure, isn't it? :twilightblush:
1802929 QUIET YOU FOAL! but seriously, after drinking that much haterade I have to see how this thing ends. If only so I don't get caught off guard when my rage backfires and chapter 9 turns out to be a beautiful wrap up piece that makes the entire series make sense. Besides, even if I don't agree with the direction of the story the technical execution is not bad at all; which is better than most stories I follow that have the opposite problem XD.
Loved this chapter, but one little issue.
...and he shot backwards to the wall when he saw way was on the other side.
Other than that, great!
Thanks for the heads up, fixed it! Glad you enjoyed the chapter. :twilightsmile:
Not entirely sure the story needed this epilogue, but I just wanted to close up some of the loose ends that were bothering me. Hope I did an okay job of that!
Call me sadistic, because I genuinely hate happy endings.
Nonetheless, this was still quite heartwarming.
So, uh... Thanks for the story.
I will have to give this story 4 out of 5 mustaches. :moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache:
I wonder what happens when you go to sleep in a dream :rainbowhuh:
That was cute. TIME TO FAP.
Cute. Very cute, but I felt the feeling was a touch rushed. Not bad, not bad.
I accidentally read Rarity's apology as Rainbow Dash, and I'm like :twilightoops:
Agreed!! Heck! in Party of one, pinkie was in twi's place and her friends at least reminded her of whats going on, instead of playing guessing game with her!
Kinda Cliché! but still a good story!
1804856
You and me both! I was hoping for a sad ending.
I think I know what is going to happen, but I won't put it due to spoilers. I'm surprised Twilight DID forget about this special... occasion. I need an explanation!!!!
EDIT: Also, I would make Twilight try and find it out for herself if she asked me...
Got a little too much sugar at the end.
1804798
I agree with you, no epilogue was needed. Everything was explained and without the epilogue I would have just implied that the others forgave her. I don't really think they needed to apologize to Twi either, being hurt and angry is reasonable, so long as they don't hold a grudge.
Don't get me wrong, I still liked the story, it's so easy to hurt the ones we love and so hard to apologize. thumbs up!
You really need to check your story and figure out why it's telling people there are three more chapters to be read. I've checked through the whole thing a couple of times, and I keep getting new chapter notices.
As far as I can tell, there's nothing I can do about it. I've been having a similar issue with some stories lately, so maybe it's just a bug with the site. Regardless, I hope it gets fixed soon.
If anyone knows what I can do personally to fix this issue, please let me know.
This piece of art has never gotten the attention that it deserves.:pinkiesad2:
It's awesome that this fic is finally getting some attention!
PS. This was the first fic I ever read.
Well, good for Twilight. I know that she would do something special with her magic, and she created a spell, which is now going to be published. :pinkiehappy: It doesn't sound like the best day ever indeed for the lavender unicorn. :twilightblush:
Oh, gosh. :fluttershysad: What could have Twilight forgotten to make Pinkie so upset, both mad, and sad? :rainbowhuh::pinkiesad2:
Twilight, you must have screwed up big time to have two of your best friends upset at you. :twilightoops::fluttershysad:
:fluttercry: Now you made Fluttershy cry now Twilight. how could you? :flutterrage: However, what is the one special thing Fluttershy talked about?:rainbowhuh:
Well, Twilight must have forgotten something very special to have it affect all of her friends. :twilightoops:
Well, always leave it to Applejack to simmer down, but tell you the cold hard truth. Now there leaves only one more, a certain baby dragon. :fluttershysad:
I couldn't read aloud anymore after those three words "Happy Birthday Spike" :fluttercry: how could a best friend forget another best friends' birthday like that? I don't care if she was going to get a spell published, you just don't do that.:fluttercry:
