And Queen Chrysalis has a plan. A new game has come out. A game where everypony is shipped with everypony, and the pony with the most ponies dating them at "the end" wins. Everypony is playing, and everypony thinks most of the ponies are computer simulations. It's easy for a few changelings to get involved, right? Nopony will even notice!

Brave New World is definitely worth reading. I'd say it's a classic, but most things called classics are interminable and pedantic. Brave New World is occasionally hard to follow, but never boring. It's one of the most famous novels of the Dystopian genre.
The Matrix is also a Dystopian story. The first movie is great. The second and third, not so much.
The reason why this story is being compared to dystopian ones is due to the 'false world' premise of full-immersion VR at this level of realism, especially given that the game is being run by "Crystal Chaos Studios". The fact that some of the players don't seem to understand what they're getting into isn't helping the impression. Dystopias always rely on illusions and falsity at some level, since nopony would consent to live in them if they understood the full scope of what was going on.

That was whirlwind. I... I think it worked here because Discord, but you've gotta be careful. I can imagine all the flash scene-changes are literally accompanied by fingersnaps and flashes of light this time. That kind of blinding pace isn't going to work for every chapter.
