Necromancy is a form of magic that involves raising the dead, usually for an evil or unnatural purpose. This is not the story of an evil necromancer, but the Memoirs of one Renovator Caesorum, a name that, in the oldest of pony languages, means Raiser of Fallen. He invented great spells in an attempt to understand the afterlife, something that nopony has done since. History has forgotten him, but his book is found and translated by Twilight Sparkle, who quickly becomes surprised at his experiments.

I love this story! But no favorite from you. Ha!
Grammar Nazi approves:moustache:

(I'm practicing the Nazi part. :pinkiehappy:

procreentur is the passive conjunctive form of the Latin verb procreare, translated as "to procreate". "Liberi procreentur" is translated as "May children be born." Think of raising children, not raising the dead.

de is the Latin preposition translated best in this context as "regarding". "de rebus mathematicis" is translated as "regarding mathematical things" or "of mathematical things". "of the fallen" would mean "regarding the fallen".

cecidit is the active indicative perfect form of the Latin verb cadere, translated as "to fall". "Icarus ab caelo cecidit" is translated as "Icarus has fallen from the sky".

I would translate "raiser of the fallen" into Latin as "renovator caesorum".

commentariis is the dative or ablative plural form of the Latin noun commentarius, translated as "notebook". "sententiae e commentariis meis" is translated as "thoughts/ideas from my notebooks".

There's not really a direct Latin translation for "memoir", but "memoirs of the raiser of the fallen" might be "commentarius renovatoris caesorum" (probably the most idiomatic, but a reader would translate it as "notebook", not "memoirs") or maybe "memoria renovatoris caesorum" ("memory of the reviver of the fallen").

Can I haz moar?

Well shit, I think I just got schooled.
I'm actually editing the story a bit to re-submit it to EQD, so I may change the characters names and the book title.

1481286 He might be writing a sequel... Might...............Miiiiiggghhhhtttttt be.

Also, if I may ask, where did you learn any of this?

How do people know so much about a dead language like this?

Favorited, if only for the Lovecraft style topic. Good job, sir!

Please continue, I can't wait to see more :raritystarry:

I studied Latin for a few years in high school, so it catches my attention when I see Latin words and derivatives in modern usage.

If you write more, it should be as another chapter, rather than another story. You have the Begginnings of an intriguing story here, About Twilight's twisting fall into insanity as she works to perfect the spell while the Majority of Pony society turns their back on her and Celestia works against her to stop her from uncovering the Horrific truth behind Mortality (Or However it Does go. That's just how I see it going from here.) but at the moment, it's not really a story about Twilight.

The book is Currently the Protagonist with Twilight Sparkle as a Conveniant Medium for Exposing the Book. The Book is Translated! (by Twilight) This is what the book contains! (as read by Twilight) Now the book is over! (and how Twilight reacts to it). You could conceivably Replace Twilight with, Say, Princess Bubblegum from Adventure time and the story would work just as well (pony Terminology aside)
My advice is to take whatever you were thinking of writing as a sequel, Stick it on the end of this and Call this the Prolouge.

Also, I'm Pretty sure that you should use Pony's for indication of possesion (The Pony's hat) rather than Ponies, which is Plural. I'm not entirely sure though

You'll see what I have planned for this soon enough. And I do try to use 'pony's' as the possessive form of the word, but I always type 'ponies' instead without noticing.

Latin is taught in many colleges, and is still used by the Catholic church.

I love ze science! Do you know what I have recently been saying? Death is just an experiment that I'm saving for later.

1483226
Science? Pfft, this is magic science. Much better than normal science.

1483269
Any science is good science, I say. Just so long as science.

1483300
You enjoy science then, my good man? I do believe that you shall enjoy my other work of fiction, the one called Breach.

{LIKE A SIR}

Yes, I have genetics from both my parents that allow my body to quickly recover from exercise and physical strain, and I have a mind equipped with 20 or so more IQ points above the average (can't remeber the exact number, I think it's 100) and finally, a love to learn.

1483384
While a 120 IQ is above average, it is not by much.
The average IQ is 100, but wit a standard deviation of 15 up or down. The average range for the human IQ is from 85 to 115. Where and how did you get your IQ tested? I'd like to have mine tested.

1483415
I was tested when I was an infant. My mother says 120 might be low, since I didn't finish the test. As for where, I don't know.

This feels like the first chapter of a longer story.

Please tell me there is going to be more. You can't end it right there.

1484301
I have decided, there will be more.

1484672You forgot your evil laugh....:trixieshiftright:

Searching for the answer to death does not always need to lead to madness.
Layers to reality... Life, Death, Life, Death... common theme.

1480893
It's been quite a while. I'd just like you to know that I've gone back and edited the story to use proper Latin, and am also currently working on the second chapter of this.

I would love to see what happens next.
