Corah Il Cappo

A gibbering mound of horseflesh who has learned to hate.

E

Sweetie Belle has tried many, many hobbies, and abandoned all of them. Now she wants to try her hoof at fencing.

Unfortunately, fencing is a hobby for rich fillies like Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon.

Fortunately, there's a pony willing to train her to beat them.

Unfortunately, that pony is Prince Blueblood.

This can only end badly. Wonderful!

I know this is a slice of life comedy, I hope to see more character development or maybe even … fights of honor in the future…
Good premise! This idea has legs!

Sweetie is in for a very rough time to Get Gud with a blade it will take a lot of Hard training.
So she will defiantly not be coming home smelling like roses.
Rarity belle heart attack incoming.
Honestly Rarity came across as a gold digger when she first met the Prince.
So i can see him acting like a first class Ass to drive them off as it were not including his possible orientation of course.

And Scootaloo said they’d never use math in the real world!

Squirt, I support you on a plenty of things... But this ain't one of them. :facehoof:

The prince stared down at the spreading stain with a sigh. “We’ll try something less dry next time, I suppose. How do you feel about Pinot Grigio?”

“I don’t…” She spluttered. “I don’t know what that is!”

“We’ve got a very long way to go.”

Already a bad influence on kids. :rainbowlaugh:

Oh dear. This is going to be a brilliant disaster, I'm sure of it.

Rarity would probably have a fit if Sweetie told she was getting fencing lessons from Blueblood, so not telling her is maybe a good idea...

Wait - how are DT and Silver Spoon breaking their blade? They're earth ponies. I thought that was a move that required unicorn magic?

Superb

:twilightsheepish: Spike was a great fencer always practiced with Shining
:unsuresweetie: So was he real good?
 Spike was unstoppable undefeated champion until he changed weapons and was over powering every pony
:duck: Claymore?
:moustache: Flame thrower
:raritystarry::facehoof::unsuresweetie:
:trollestia: His opponent had no fur or manes for months

Killer premise. Hope to see more! EDIT: Actually read it now:
I know next to nothing about writing, but: Excellent paragraphing. I love how you don't hold the hand of fimfiction readers: we immediately know who's talking by context. I buy these motivations—excellent setup and cast.

Great start! Blueblood will surely be a good influence on Sweetie :unsuresweetie:
Wonder if Shining Armor's blade has a name like Blueblood's does.

It's out! Let's gooooo!!!

Can't wait for it to turn horribly.

Ok, I'm liking where this is going. :)

Great beginning. Wait for more!

This is off to a promising start, can't wait for the next chapter.

As someone who has fought hundreds of bouts in SCA rapier combat I really look forward to reading more of this. Especially as Blueblood's style of fighting seems much more combat oriented than fighting on a strip with a foil or epee.

Small anecdote here...

I too, learned the basics wielding a sword made of a plastic rod wrapped in duct tape with a modified metal bowl as a hand guard. The weapon was stolid, clunky and inelegant, but it was good enough for learning the basics. It took me a few months to save up for a 34 inch, swept hilt schlager blade and it was worth every penny.

Practice was no longer a boring repetition, but rather mastering footwork and bladework. Bouts no longer resembled a woodsman hacking at a tree, but became a dance punctuated with the musical chimes of metal on metal. Nothing, and I mean nothing compares to the feel of fighting with actual steel. Especially when the moves become second nature and the fight becomes a chess game played at the speed of thought, action and reaction.

Same Blueblood as He Who Speaks for the Sun? Excited to read regardless!

“Actually, that’s a good sign to start class.”

"Just like Cadence says, when the fillies are ready to kill each other, they're ready to learn!"
:unsuresweetie: "... She says that?"
"Foalsitting in Canterlot's an adventure, little lady. Which is another way of saying 'lots of screaming and mortal peril.'"

When asked to demonstrate how to shatter their blade, they showed they were already using five shards, rather than everypony else’s three.

I have several questions about how earth ponies are managing that.

“How old are you?”
“I’m nine.”
“I was practically a sommelier by your age. If anything, you're starting too late.”

This is going to be a truly glorious mess.

Eagerly looking forward to more, especially when Rarity inevitably learns just who's been teaching Sweetie.

This is exciting~

he poured a finger of deep violet merlot

But needs more hooves and wine!

Meteoric platinum? Shattered blades? I’m sensing some strong Immoral Game energy here.

Also, I love seeing a relatively reasonable Blueblood who’s, at the very least, acquainted with Twilight’s family. Personally, I prefer it where they were friends, but I’ll take what I can get.

Very interested to see where this goes tbh, was a foil fencer for a good couple years in middle and high school before the pandemic hit so I got at least passing knowledge to occasionally go "I understood that reference" I hope

Also looking forward to seeing Blueblood in a mentor role- really interesting seeing him in that role of all ponies

Oh wow! At least Blueblood finds her reasoning acceptable. Maybe this time an actual drive will help Sweetie focus enough to get good rather than lose interest. I mean, revenge is great motivator. Just have to make sure that she has attention - especially when it gets hard.

Because Blueblood won't be giving her any uplifting pep talks to help soothe her fears and make her feel better.

He will, however, give her some excellent wine.

... Make that lots of excellent wine.

“Cheers?” Sweetie sheepishly clanked her wineglass against his with a hollow sound.

“Now, drink up and run along. We’ll start your training on Thursday, then.” Blueblood downed the rest of his glass in a single gulp. Sweetie Belle followed his lead, gagged, and spewed red wine all over the carpet.

“Sorry!”

The prince stared down at the spreading stain with a sigh. “We’ll try something less dry next time, I suppose. How do you feel about Pinot Grigio?”

“I don’t…” She spluttered. “I don’t know what that is!”

“We’ve got a very long way to go.”

Why I have a feeling that after the Fencing training, Sweetie Belle becomes a professional in drinking wine instead of Fencing LOL :duck:

i love this, Sweetie and Blueblood's mentor-apprentice dynamic is so good. I like how Blueblood is still his Snarky and kind of rude self, but he actually makes sure Sweetie is absorbing what he's teaching her like a good instructor

Blueblood couldn’t hide the small smirk from his face. “Well, sounds like Shining Armor has taught you well.”

“He sure did!” She grinned, proud that she had remembered the oath perfectly.

All must protect this little marshmallow's smile! :rainbowdetermined2:

This was finally happening! She was training fencing with her own private tutor! No more games. No more wine. No more bullies. It was time for her to become the best… Fencer? Fencist? Fencemare? None of those sounded right.

"I like cars! I want to be a racist when I grow up!"

“Yes, sir.” She nodded vigorously.

“Please don’t sir me.” He huffed softly. “I’m not that old.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

"Uh, yeah!" She fiddled with the strap of her saddlebag. "His name is... Blue. Yeah! Yeah that's his name. Just Blue."

Smooth moves, Sweetie. :rainbowlaugh:

She can show up Diamond in front of her parents by talking shop on wines with them :raritywink:

A very good instructor. He's teaching less like an instructor with one of their students and more like a master teaching his or her apprentice. One that is very much rooted in the martial part of martial art. This can only end well for Sweetie - she's always seemed a little lacking in confidence in the show, no doubt helped along by how others just seem to expect her to follow their ideas without getting her own input. Blueblood strikes me as the sort who will get her to believe in herself for herself. I think Ponyville is going to find its Fencing Filly upending more than a few opinions of herself and her teacher.

Sassy Sweetie pointing out how stupid the other CMC's decisions are would be priceless. She might give early season Twi a run for her money in terms of sarcasm! :rainbowlaugh:

“Yes, sir.” She nodded vigorously.
“Please don’t sir me.” He huffed softly. “I’m not that old.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“That’ll do."

"It's like working with a tiny, squeaky Trixie. A fascinating and at times concerning experience."

But Sweetie Belle felt something that she hadn’t felt in all the other hobbies she had dropped.
Improvement.

A good teacher is a wonderful thing. A teacher who actually understands how their student learns all the more so.

There's just the matter of what happens the next time Rarity asks Shining Armor how Sweetie's doing...
