This story is a sequel to No Need For A Fairy Godmother: Parents' Guide to Raising Gifted Teens
A lazy day, snuggled with her girlfriend on the couch and not having to deal with magic, mayhem, or the ramifications of her myriad of past choices...that was what Sunset had been hoping for.
Its never that simple when you're Sunset Shimmer, and the universe chose to remind her about that with a knock at the door. What followed made her look back on her past, on parts of it she didn't like thinking about, and what's worse, she owed Twilight a few explanations...
Can she just go back to bed instead?
The next story in the Rubicon series, after Cross the Rubicon: Choices and No Need For a Fairy Godmother, yet another piece in the puzzle of cleaning up the mess left by the Friendship Games.
YAY FOR MORE!
ok, favourited and liked, now on to actually reading this suspected next masterpiece . .
In the words of the great Alucard, OM NOM NOM NOM NOM!
And now for the usual nitpicking:
is that not supposed to be running them off?
arms missing? which is probably not as strange to a pony.
Yes, this was a good as expected.
BUT ONLY A SINGLE CHAPTER?!?
I feel robbed!
Yes, i know, i am a spoiled cunt . .
YOUR WRITING DID THIS TO ME! ò,Ó;,
Another story that leaves you thinking, very good, the truth is I still wonder what else they will talk about about the human world on behalf of Sunset
Sometimes, the choice to not be mean is enough. Sometimes, you gotta take a step further.
I guess it depends on the person you're interacting with, not to mention how your past experiences, and theirs, have affected each of you.
For Snips and Snails, Sunset choosing, in her own way, to not be mean to them was more than enough for them to call her friend.
Oh hey, its helpful little voice! I missed that little voice.
I also love it that sunny is freely allowed to use ponyisms now. Also, I'm assuming the big black car/van has something to do with Max and who I am still assuming is chrysalis until told otherwise.
Oh, I am SO glad someone else realizes Forgotten Friendship was nonsense for its "lesson."
As someone who was also bullied, I agree with you.
Oh, nice! I was just rereading Rubicon, and at the start I thought for a moment "oh yeah, I wonder what happened to those two". And here you are, telling us! Nice.
12225825
Right.
Wonder if Sunset will ever tell Twilight:
"I am hearing voices in my head. Well, a Voice. She is fond of you. And Falafel and calling me a Hornhead. Which is actually a racist Slur where i am from."
Well, that's certainly one anti-bullying tactic; fighting violence with more violence. Still, it's more evidence that Sunset may have been a bitch in this AU, but not a bully, at least not in the brutish sense.
12225747
I wouldnt call it a “masterpiece” haha.
Thanks for the compliment tho.
12225754
Gotta feed the addiction somehow, lol.
12225760
Nah, both of those were word choices meant for where they were. The second was, as you suggested a minor variance in language—horsies do not have hands, and of course while sunset is a magic pony, in irl horse racing, they measure the distance between to horses in a race in “lengths” as in body length. So its also my using horse terms, the same way ive used things like “jig” and “crib” and the like.
12225776
So spoiled.
Dont worry, Therapy Sessions will be up in a week or two.
12225780
Well, Sunsets actions have had far reaching consequences. Shes just now learning some of them.
12225819
True, yes. Each person is different. I think what bothered me more about the FF lesson is that no one can be friends with everyone. Its not doable. There will always be people that you dont agree with and dont like, and sometimes the best you can do with those people is be neutral. And thats olay.
So i took pleasure in saying “look, if you cant be nice, at least not being an asshole is a decent compromise, and for some people, just that much consideration is a world of difference because they may not get it.” People on the outside, people who are different, especially kids, are treated abysmally in many social environments, and I feel like Snips and Snails are a good example of some of those.
Do they deserve better than that? Yes—its why Sunset feels so terrible and why Twilight tries to be friendly and considerate, even if they are not people she could really be friends with.
12225825
The voice is still there, for now. As it pointed out, theres work to be done still on integrating Sunset’s brain and soul back together. Shes a mess. Dont worry, the voice will be around for a while.
12225983
FF has a lot of problems, but I feel like both its lesson and Wallflower’s…”motivation” are the big ones. Both stand out to me as being pointless and make Sunset the victim rather than a case of “reaping what youve sown.”
Turning that upside down was fun. Part of my long term plan to make Wallflower take responsibility for her own behavior.
12226115
I have mentioned them a few times in the narrative of Rubicon—they were present with Trixie for part of the Games, though they werent in the big battle part, and theyve cropped up in brief mentions a few times but this piece sort of wrote itself in a fun way.
12226130
I mean, it came up briefly in Hell.
Well, the existence of the Voice. Not the racial slur.
Also, I think youre the first person to catch that the term “hornhead” is a derogatory term likely with origins as a racial slur. Youre right, of course, and its a subtle jab at Sunset’s self negative viewpoint.
12226143
Oh no, Sunset was definitely a bully. She just…didnt start out that way. She became that way by a mixture of choice, reaction, and circumstance. This was a peek at her during that transition.
12226200
Right!
I completely forgot about the length in horse racing!
And i live 5 min on foot from germanys biggest horse race track <.<
And yes it is a Masterpiece!
Kindness and cruelty often exist on a spectrum. It is possible to sit squarely in the middle and be neither cruel or kind. Snips and Snails were not threats to Sunset so they were not targets for her ire, and the benefits they provider her meant she would keep them around and protect her 'tools'. It isn't a healthy state of affairs for anyone involved and likely would have imploded on one end or another if it continued for much longer. In a lot of ways it is similar to how she used Flash. A transactional relationship that was a means to an end for Sunset. But like Flash Snips and Snails managed to sometimes see past the bitchy bully she was to get small glimpses of her true nature that leaked though.
12226130
"Also, she was kinda acting as my wingman when we started dating and I didn't realize she wasn't just my inner thoughts until we did the horizontal tango."
12226299
Bit awkward but i am pretty sure Twi is kinky enough to not mind and probably want to talk to her.
Remember: Still waters are deep and dirty!
12226405
Oh absolutely. She clearly liked everything litte voice dd in her dreams and she got all hot and bothered over demon Sunny.
But Sunny is still self conscious about it.
12226424
Oh yeah this one is so into the Demon Eyes.
And the teeth and claws probably.
12226433
Don't forget the tail. Lot of stuff you can do with that tail.
12226448
I have seen enough hentai to know where that is going.
Good to know that I'm not the only one who has a dislike for Forgotten Friendship and it's lesson. Makes me curious as for what's going to happen when Wallflower and the Memory stone plot from Rubicon is going to come to a head.
Otherwise, it's always fun to see lesser known characters get delved into that are actually have a reason to be delved into. And honestly, having them being Sunset's Minions (And basically working for a the biggest bully to avoid being bullied themselves) fits better with Snips and Snails than even what the original MLP actually had going for them.
This also really comes into one of my favorite lessons in life: Even the smallest of actions can have big effects. Sunset may have not thought of anything by lending a hand to Snips and Snails, but I'm pretty sure those two will always remember it.
Mmm, this was an absolutely top tier, mint choice, giving us this view into Sunny's history.
Also, kindly remove the mirror from my phone. I get it XD
But no, seriously, having already worked out my old issues, the whole 'just not being mean' message is phenomenal. I'd mentioned before the kid I 'just ignored' and he thought I was a hero for it, but even for myself and the amount of hostilities I choose to step to at school(fuck I don't care that they started shit, man I was a dickhead back then), having a class where I walk in and the only looks I get are to see if I've already been 'having a day' or not, then just, being left alone for a class was always the highlight.
Sure, having someone be nice would've been better, but just not being bothered. Being able to just vibe out for forty minutes, ignored and unbothered, was a lot of the times all I needed.
Equestrian really did Sunset's child/foalhood dirty tbh, that she doesn't realise that not being a dick is enough most of the time.
This was a good look into the old Sunny's thought processes and feelings, as well as her established relationship with Snips and Snails. Well done as always
i absolutely love when characters seem fleshed out rather than ' he was evil and everyone hated him'
this was a much needed continuation and i loved it kjrhoe;fwegwgds
and yeah sunset u shuld wait a lil before you act upon ur impulses
It was honestly great to have a small peak inside of sunset's mind in her middle school era. Seeing how differently she thought of humans back then vs now is honestly quite fun to compare and contrast! Keep up the good work !
12226251
Pretty much. It wasnt healthy, it wasnt a "friendship"--too transactional for that, but to two boys who had nothing else, it was better than nothing.
12226299
12226405
12226424
12226433
12226448
12226462
*dies laughing* Just to add my two cents, "Twilight's a freaky little monkey, and she knows how to use an internet search to her fullest advantage." There's also a side joke somewhere about Demon-Sunset and her tail, but you kinda had to be there for that one. :P
12226545
*chuckles* Yeeeeah.
We'll be checking in with Wallflower soon enough.
And yes, the whole point of the series theme is Choices and Consequences. The actions and decisions a person makes having long reaching effects. Sunset hasnt yet seen all the consequences of her choices.
12226697
We didnt put the mirror there. We just called attention to it, haha. No, seriously. Your story kinda inspired some of the lessons in this one, so feel proud.
Sunset's...got some issues still. She's workng through them. slowly.
12226839
Yeah, it was fun to write the narrative with past Sunset.
12227280
Characters are people too. :P
12227809
It was definitely fun to write!
