When Applejack’s cousin falls out of an apple tree in Appleoosa and hits his head, nobody is more worried about him than Ponyville. Unless you count a certain frustrated young changeling queen near Appleoosa when he shows up and claims to be a member of her hive.

Here we go, for your viewing pleasure we have a light humorous (and slightly romantic) tale about Caramel, and the trouble he gets into when he falls out of an apple tree in Appleoooosa. Enjoy! Five chapters, posted one a day until Friday.
That first chapter was great
I have a feeling this one will go right up there with your other books, like the one that got away or her royal morning coffee. I loved those.
Ooh, this looks like fun. Very funny so far, looking forward to more!
12222143 it's only 15k words. For books, that's barely Mayhem size. (You get to meet him in the next chapter. And a minotaur with the same name and attitude in Sweetie Belle - Hogwarts Exchange Student.)
12222517 I try my best. Tyvm.
Oh I can’t wait for more. Luckily it’s a chapter a day story so I don’t have to wait that long
what is it with caramel and falling in love with/becoming a changeling....
actualy having read integration i already know the answer to the question, alot of the early epic fanfics have impacted how we view various background ponies, vinyl is a vampire, caramel has a thing for/with changelings, sweetie is a robot (except when shes not)
ect and so forth...still this is anothere cute little adition to the line up, thanks for posting it georg!
When you've psych'd your enemy to the point they won't utter your name, the battle is already won.
...and makes this funny? Pinkie has NO idea she's their enemy.
Neither rain nor sleet nor elaborately layered illusions...
Looking forward to seeing where this goes, whether that's a panicked skitter or a concussed stumble. Possibly both!
I love Mayhem. His dialogue writes itself. And Shuffle just appeared so naturally in the process.
12222672 I learned early in this process that waiting until it was all written and checked results in a far better product. Except for the ones that will probably never see an end, like Letters From a Little Princess Monster, and then I try to make a whole arc complete before publishing it.
12222713 I was astonished at the number of Caramel/Changeling fics that showed up in the sidebar.
12222735 Pinkie has no enemies, only friends who have not been exposed to enough parties to realize it.
12222924 Equestria, the land of useful concussions. Hm. I do tend to the concussive side of love, don't I?
“None of us ever want to hurt anypony,” said Rarity with a deeply sympathetic tone in her voice as the frying pan floated into position. “Sometimes it just happens.”
Is this a secret Equestrian food, or just an accidental misspelling of melons?
Caramel is best changeling!
From the looks of it, it just seemed that Caramel is a pony that hit his head too hard. I am betting that either he collided with a changeling and there were fragments of memories transferred into him. That, or he somehow talked to Patric the changeling in Ponyville, told him everything about changelings and showed what to look for in picking out infiltrators and decided to join the hive.
12222995 mellon is the Sindarin (and Noldorin) word for "friend." Don't you know your Tolkien? They're going out and bringing back.... Well, I better change it anyway. (No wonder spellcheck didn't flag it.)
12223055 No, that would be Skywriter. If he were a changeling. Which he isn't. Honest.
12223162 You were doing good with the first sentence. Gotta know when to stop. My stuff isn't that deep. Most of my stories you'll barely get your ankles damp.
Figures Caramel was "hiding" right in plain sight that whole time.
Honestly, that's kinda on Appat for not figuring out where he was sooner.
Is Caramel related to Rainbow Dash? As in, a direct, genetic line? As in, that one relative everypony else talks about?
He's...kinda thick, is what I'm sayin'...
Ah, traditions. Nothing like a ball game with no fatalities.
If I didn't know better, I’d say the author got their hands dirty doing research for this story.
I'm this case, very, very smelly as well!
Nice to see Blood Bowl in the pony world.
Yeah, that scans.
Looks like Caramel might yet be the best thing to have ever happened to this hive. Now if only he'd start communicating his actions and reasons for them BEFORE he actually goes and does them, if just to save Appat's heart from giving out due to the repeated shocks and increased fears of being discovered every time she finds out about it after the fact.
This conclave with the other queens is going to be interesting too. It can really only go one of two ways, and I'm kinda torn on which it could be, because both seem equally possible at the moment. Best case, though, Appat passes with flying colors, maybe even set a new standard for future start-up hives to try and aspire to, and who'd say no to that?
Caramel accidentally mutates into a King Ling...
There is nothing quite so terrifyingly competent as an Apple with a mission. They don't raise slackers in that family. Frankly, the only reason they haven't taken over the world is because that's too much work even for them. But with a helpful administrator nearby, well...

They had to carefully angle Twilight's ascension so Nuffle's summer home wasn't in the shot.
Inconceivable!
This. This is great!
Everything I like about this fandom is summed up in three words, words that your story embodies perfectly:
Friendship is Magic
Heh, I love this story : ) Ponies are just being their colorful bonkers selves, and all other creatures just rolling with it : )
12224157
Which reference is that? The closest story I can remember would be called. A Village called Respite.
Or something like that.
Woolsworth's a good guy.
... Has that Romance tag always been there?
Heh. A brilliant way to summarize good "ponies seen from an outside perspective story." Definitely looking forward to seeing where this one goes next.
12224837 About one more chapter. Caramel needs his mind wiped and sent back home. It's mandatory for changelings. (but in Caramel's case, a light rinse will do)
12224793 Sometimes, half the fun is getting the character names right :)
12224709 12224631 I get to do a little expanding in the next chapter. Right before he gets his mind wiped and sent home.
12224868
LMAO the bait in this post tastes like cotton candy ^_^
Changelings? Romance? State/business building? Buncha things I love. Great story so far. I hope this new definitely pony community does well.
12224717
Look up a sci-fi movie called ‘Cocoon’.
Edit: Misspelled ”Cocoon”.
12224960 I seriously wanted to do a Harry Potter fanfic where Beauxbatons turns into a summer high-end resort after the students go home, with all the magical things hidden away and its own private beach.
12224973
That sounds amazing!
Gotta give the mare this much--she's VERY dedicated to her job.
Anyway, that could've gone worse. Could've also gone better too...but sounds like good might yet come from it anyway.
12224585
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Always the question, isn't it?
Oh, she definitely cast it. Whether it was effective or working is entirely another matter :)
Oof. Unexpectedly large dose of feels.
Frigging LOL.
Sweet and soft. As a marshmallow.
This was lovely. Thank you for writing it!
I both want a sequel and don't ^_^
This was perfect.
For all intents and purposes of changeling protocol, a spell was cast. That's Appat's story and she's sticking to it.
Delightful stuff, especially Celestia's implied awareness of most changelings' symbiosis with other species. And Caramel's insight into the hive's malaise. Honestly, I could've used someone like him in a few jobs...
In any case, thank you for another great read.
This is wonderful and I kind of want a sequel
Did she, indeed.
Great little story. Better than even what I was expecting going in.
This absolutely killed me
I truly love how underlying aspects of your stories are made clear at the end. The hints to the framework were always there, but I often miss them.
Results in a very satisfying reading experience from reading a well-thought-out story.
A delightful tale, truly worthy of a sequel
Memory spells are useless upon the insane! The brain's wired different!
God I love realpolitik.
I feel like it's been forever since I favorited a new story! Especially one that has original ideas in it despite the deep, deep grooves carved by a decade and a half of iron-shod hooves. The little shibboleth nod to Carabas was fun, especially in the midst of thinly veiled political shenanigans. Jolly good show!
Fun and goofy and silly. Thanks!
