A normal My Little Pony watcher suddenly drops out of the human world and crash lands in the mountains near Canterlot. He knows that he needs to get home, but that might be a bit difficult seeing as he's achieved a couple new skills. Hopefully he can get help from the ponies of Equestria and return home.
However, as he goes along, he finds out there is a massive threat against Equestria. And the cause is an enemy from Princess Luna's past, long since thought to be dead. This is a tale of the rebirth of a magic of both dark and light.

The first spell I'd learn after getting a super secret spell book would be a concealment spell. Or, I'd just keep it hidden in a pocket. Why didn't he have it in a pocket anyway? He knows the spell.
Apart from being pathetically easy to avoid the book being stolen. it is also pretty obvious that was gonna happen. Still many great stories have been predictable. It kind of annoys me that he doesn't think about what'll happen if he goes home and if he really wants to. The spell shade had his paw on most likely is something to do with shadow wolves. There are plenty of super complex spells, even more so than dimension traveling. Even if he finds a dimension travel spell, there are an infinite number of dimensions.
Apart from those problems it is a good story.

I suppose you could say that since Chrysalis took over as queen, she doesn't want her mother to use more powerful magic, because she fears losing her throne to someone who has greater power than her.
Plus, Chrysalis's mother is several thousand years old, and changelings aren't completely immortal like Celestia or Luna. By now, Chrysalis's mother is pretty much a vegetable, and has lost almost all conscious thought, so she wouldn't have thought to use her magic if she wanted to.
Although, I'm impressed.

You should have short back story explained what happened with chrysalis mother in her youth when she had the power. What had stopped her then from taking over? Maybe several elements turned her good back then, but now Chrysalis has grown powerful and overthrown her mother, turning her into a vegetable, and immediately attacking Canterlot in a fight we all know of. It could also give a clue as to how to beat Chrysalis should she grow more powerful. (if she isn't dead she could search out the element of darkness).
Or not I just am plugging jabs in an otherwise good story.

hmmm I hope it takes at least enough time to find the spell for him to want to stay in Equestria. Who knows ponies could have much longer(or shorter
) lifespans than humans. It's a magic world so they can life for however long you want them too. You never know how many spells are in that book. Also, If you ever make a sequel I want to hear about almost all the spells even if they don't really do much. Such as:
1. Dousing Spells
2. Spying Spells
3. Illusion Spells
4. Compass Spells
5. Elemental Spells
6. Cleansing Spells
...
There could be an almost unlimited amount of them. For each individual need there could be a spell. It'd be fun to try and learn tons to make life that much easier.

Well, think of it from the point of view where a guy is completely confused as to where he is, in an unfamiliar body, and he had dropped out of the sky a few minutes ago. Are you using Google Translator, because I'm not! (That program is very inaccurate) I take Latin at school, and Tenebrarum (Main conjugation: Tenebrae) means shadows/darkness. The book is called the "book of shadows", which means that the word "shadows" needs to be in the genetive case, so therefore, it declines to the word, "Tenebrarum". The word for "of Bugs", which you accused to mean "Tenebrarum", in latin is "Cimix". It's true that Umbrarae/Umbrarum is another way to say darkness, but the meaning behind the word is more defined by the context, which in this case, Umbrarum is referring to the darkness of the night. Tenebrae/Tenebrarum is more in context of secrecy and not literal darkness.

A guy of shadows... Meant for stealth, deception and speed... Was given a large amount of power and was also given a suit of ARMOUR instead of a cloak...
Bonus points for being a badass. but I have to say, shadow magic would be more biased towards stealth and deception rather than a full frontal assault.
Looking at this purely from a D&D view, this class wouldn't be suited for this kinda stuff at all, his defence would be extremely high, his health would be lower than average, his speed would be average and his wit would be lower than average. In other words, this guy is kinda OP. The way he's portrayed make him seem almost invincible (with the exception of the influx of changeling drones attacking him.) His abilities are spread over two completely opposing classes; The tank class(a front line warrior with his superior strength, health and defence.) and the shadow class (being specifically designed for stealth and assassination.)
These two classes would usually clash against each other, and they kinda do. The fire thing isn't really a shadow ability, but I suppose if it were to burn a soul rather than physical harm it would have been okay. The shield is okay, I can role with a shield, it's a defensive ability and quite useful. However I either didn't read it properly, or you failed to mention anything about what the shield actually looks like. And you completely forgot about it in the final fight. The compass spell is actually not that bad and cloud spell is also quite a nice little ability, which shows up a little during the story.
I will say however that you did manage to pull it off quite well. Mixing a fire element with the shadows is quite nice. I enjoyed the story, even if it was a tad fast paced and the main character did seem to be accepted without any suspicion at all (which unnerved me a little bit). Plus, there wasn't much in the way of character development with the main six and Shining. (although the letter to his wife Cadence was nice.)
In conclusion this was a nIce story, a bit faced paced, the main character was slightly OP, there wasn't much character development (for for anyone bit the main character) and there was a wolf involved. Overall, a thumbs up and a fav. Good job, 3/5 Fluttershy's
