There's a thing I just notice by reading this chapter, I don't know why it didn't make me react before.
Why was the mother dragon so nice in the last story? Dragons are supposed to be based around earning the respect of others, and how you should fight for it. Having a mother dragon that seem (from what I've seen so far) more cold, and less loving of her child, make more sense.
Also, to answer your question.
I think you should, of course, do what you're the most comfortable with. But I personally think it is a better idea to see him progress naturally, so avoid making too large time skip. Basically what I'm saying is, make him stay baby for at least a little while.
To answer the question a good balance sounds nice to me not too much not too little after all that's MCchan getting used to his new world and contrasting it to his own maybe they'll even converge on the other story
