Oh shit, a sequel? I literally just checked Mathemagics half an hour ago to see if anything had changed and I see this?

Good first chapter. Hope Kinetic continues to be the silent, brooding type.

Also definitely hope to see more development with Rachel!

This is so great man, cant wait to see what cadence will try to earn forgiveness .

Btw will this follow the same upload schedule as Mathemagics, as in it'll be uploaded when the chapter's finished? Or are you hoping for something consistent like once a week/month/whatever?

Either way, can't wait to see what comes next.

As the crow flies.

NOOO!!!! UGLY PONIES, REMEMBER!!!??? HUMAN SUPERIORITY!!!!....also thank God your back.

We're so back 😎

yep.... big soft indeed.

yoooo another one!

I haven't read the previous story, don't you wanna like it to this one as a sequel? :rainbowhuh:

Great to see this back again. This was both cute and felt meaningful.

Looking forward to seeing where this new part goes.

Wait, Kinetic wasn't wearing socks all this time?

Fuck yes. I thougt you were gone. Happy to see you back.

12172111
he took them off when entering the house.

I am confused but nonetheless agree thank God he's back

oh hey applied mathemagics got a sequel… OH WAIT APPLIED MATHEMAGICS GOT A SEQUEL

im rooting for you, rock wife

Math honse is back

Holy shit. I have never been happier.

Thank you for writing a sequel to Applied Mathemagics, it is probably my most favourite story on this site and I am super hyped that it is being continued.

Biggest soft is back! Yay! :yay:

And now I'm slightly worried that what Kinetic probably sees as fulfilling a "dying wish" to vision-Twilight for his own peace of mind, Twilight might want to keep as the new status quo. They really need to talk about this.

I have loved the story so far. I think I have reread it at least 5 times at this point. I've been reading stories on this site since 2014, read over 35 million words I enjoyed enough to favorite, and this story is in the top 10 best stories for me. That is to say, I like your funny words, magic man.

Also, I will never forgive you for that April fools joke.

“Well,” Cadance says gently, stepping forward to face me directly. “Thank you again, Kinetic. Truly. I promise, once things stabilize here, Shining and I will come to visit. I’d really like the chance to—”

I interrupt with an exaggerated sigh. “You don’t need to threaten me, Princess.”

She falters for a second, before recovering gracefully. Her smile returns, warmer this time, undeterred. “I’m serious. I’d like to make things right.”

“Good for you,” I reply flatly.

I want a chapter where Cadence discovers Kinetic filled and obtained a restraining order on her.:rainbowlaugh:

This series would have done numbers back in 2013

Great chapter

Banger opening chapter. I look forward to seeing the relationship progress. I did a bit of looking, and the formula this time has something to do with liquid. The last book was the brute force manipulation of atoms and material. This time, I have a feeling Kinetic will become a force to be reckoned with, especially after what Sombra's door showed him.

I look forward to more... Wise Guy...

THE TALE LIVES ON!!!!!

Thanks again WiseGuy for another great chapter, and for continuing this captivating story. I'm really curious to see how both Rachels and Twilights relationships develop along with Kinetic's from here on out. I wish you the best of luck writing your next chapter, and I hope you have a amazing week. Cheers!

I bet it's gonna be uncomfortable for twilight when she learns she got what she wanted because she made him watch a vision of their friends being turned into chunky marmalade, with her vision-self dying in his arms dramatically, because he "touched the Butt". Kinetic's dare didn't get him captured by scuba divers, however, so that's a plus.

Was really excited when I saw this!!

Damn this is a strong start to the next stage in Kinetic's story. While I'm not sure forcing himself outside of his comfort zone to fulfill the promises to a dying Twilight hallucination is healthy, at the end of it all he seems content, soothed, and even, dare I say, happy. Sometimes risks like that pay off and he is getting some validation that Twilight cares. Yeah he has been avoiding it until this point, but it is still hard for him to put himself out on a limb and be vulnerable. Imagine if she said 'no' to that Canterlot date? He'd be beyond crushed. Even though it is likely she would say yes him asking is still a significant step.

And Twilight, damn. She really knocks it out of the park here. She is just as twisted up in her own ways about him. Her acceptance of the date is full of signals conveying how hopeful she is, but also her uncertainty. Like she won't let herself fully believe it, that it may vanish if she tries to grasp it. She wants it, but is afraid that showing that want may ruin it.

And then we get to the reading scene. Holy hell. This may by my favorite bit across both stories period (so far at least). Twilight almost instantly was able to grab a stack of books that align to her and Kinetic's situation almost 1 to 1. She collected and read these ahead of time while Kinetic was presumed dead. These books are part of her mourning/grieving process regarding that trauma. Her favorite passage really nails that home:

I take the book.
There's a highlight phrase.
“Even if I don't say it right, even if I never say it at all, just know—I wanted you. All this time. Even when I pushed you away.”
She holds very still.

She likely read that over and over trying to come to terms with his loss. Trying to convince herself that this is how he felt about her. Her showing this to him is a way of letting him into her trauma, however subtle and indirect. Bringing him in to help her heal. Twilight's love language is books and this whole section is her showing and shouting at him how deeply she cares through these books. Having him read it is just icing on the cake. Regardless of where things go between them her falling asleep to the sound of his voice, reading these books, will stay with her forever. The whole section feels intimate to Kinetic because it is on a deeply profound level for Twilight. You've done an excellent job of showing that Twilight has her own burdens and hurt from what has happened. She has her own scars and lingering trauma, but she hides it and manages it in different ways than Kinetic and is willing to be vulnerable with him. Even if it all flies over his head or he won't confront/acknowledge it yet. Excellent chapter.

NICE A sequel la!

Anyways, this is gonna be a big problem.

Affection driven by trauma? A promise from an illusion?
Yeah I can already see this backfiring in the long run, sure it might have opened a door.. but it also cracked the socket.

Hopefully, it turns out okay.

I think another important thing to note here, is that we know things have diverged from Canon at this point.

So who knows what Twilight's great fear was, after all she did chew out both Cadance and Celestia after the wedding.

oh man, I can't wait to see how hes horribly traumatized this time!!! :pinkiehappy:

Her segmented tongue pokes out slightly, curling with mechanical sass. “She—own—you.”

damn, now me personally? i couldn't stand for that

Cigaro #41 · May 2nd · · ·

holy möly

Honestly me personally i think twilight is being a bit to forceful with her affection it's almost coming off as if she's beating him into metaphorical submission to accept her feelings and he doesn't get a choice in the matter, like thar train ride come on after everything that happened she thought copping a feel was appropriate?

i am here to see kinetic to be repeatedly violated by pony friendship over and over again.

Ah, a good start to the next leg of the story. And a re-direction of the main point of the story from his creations to his emotions, given the synopsis.

So, a clear message that the crystal empire is back on the status quo, and Twilight taking advantage of his emotional vulnerability to push things. That can only last so long, and she's determined to push it as fast as possible it seems. She really should realize that it's probably not a good thing she's doing here, taking advantage of a horrible experience for her own benefit. But, I guess her eventually taking it too far and realizing that is the plot that's happening here.

All in all, good writing, though not sure how to feel about it myself; I was really interested in seeing some overly thought through process of him applying physics to magic, or make unique things with runes. Feels like the story is directing itself away from that and towards the ship. Especially if he is going to let Twilight commandeer his time to sappy romance pursuits, away from getting any work on his magic or his new rune-books done.

That was absolutely cute how he just read to her and actually complied with twiggles wishes. Trauma on both thier ends and having someone to help deal with it will help alot for both of em.

i honestly love this chapter and want the cute cuddle sessions to continue in the future

I think that a person who reaches adulthood without having experience in a loving relationship might be a little aggressive in his ways of showing affection

I’m ashamed to say this, but I was like that with my girlfriend and the worst thing is she let... Everything became so confusing and I felt so guilty that in the end I decided to end the relationship before doing something that I would regret my whole life

Made an account just to say that no FanFiction has ever hit me the same as when I saw Applied Mathemagics was marked as completed and I was so bummed out that I didn’t see a sequel posted. Imagine my surprise and the sheer dopamine hitting my brain when I go to reread it and see a link to this.

While I adore the interesting magic system, application of physics, and the spell work, it’s the character interactions and growth over the course of the story that was my favorite part to read and it seems this story is maybe leaning even more heavily into that(little bit early to say of course). I had to reread the epilogue chapters and this first chapter all together because it was just such an emotional series of events and I was keeping my eyes peeled for every time something called back to his experience in the fear door.

TLDR, made an Account because you wrote some truly great stuff and I’m excited for more.

fuck yes i just binge read the first one i am addicted

What made you decide to split the story up into another one? I imagine there are some people who don’t know about this story and think applied Mathmagics is the end of the story so far.
