We're going to be seeing a lot more abilities gained in the future, and I got some big reveals set up in my docs for how his "power" evolves over time. More bugs for sure, can't have an entomologist without bugs.
I can already tell I love this. Was the power inspired by Prototype by chance? That would be a fun development. If not, I still recommend checking it out for some ideas.

Right now, his ability is fairly limited, in both what he eats and how it affects him. Later this will change, but imagining him with the abilities of a water bear instills the fear of god in me.

There are several thoughts after the first chapter, please do not take it as criticism.
The presentation seems to me to be overcomplicated, too vague here and there too. Damn mystery bug-thing had something to do with Harmony? - wouldn't want to believe that she can be so cold and indifferent to other people's lives...
It is also perplexing that for some reason they chose not a local resident who was vitally interested in success, but some random dude from another world. L - logic
It's funny how they grabbed him and shoved him into another world without explaining anything, expecting something other than failure too.

I'm actually really happy to hear your thoughts, especially because they seem to be in line with what I wanted the 'bug' encounter to provoke. Also, if you did have criticism, I'm always happy to listen. It helps me improve my writing!
So random behind the scenes here:
When designing the encounter for that particular thing, without giving spoilers, I think it was the hardest thing I've written so far for this story just because of what it is. Primarily because I had no idea how things like it would manifest or, god forbid, interact with a human or a pony. As the story goes we will learn more about the bug & I might come back and rewrite the scenes to better fit the characterization.

Heck yeah! The 'evolution' tree I have for this power is kind of absurd, especially when you start throwing magic into the mix. That opened up like 30 other branches. I didn't even think about electric eels, that's definitely a good one for sure.

Perhaps a threat? A monster to defeat? I wouldn't find it strange, since the tone Armonia used suggests she wants to maintain control over everything, rather than the balance that should exist.
It could also be that, given all the discord among the inhabitants under her command, she decides to take an aggressive stance and take a firm stance, as a military leader would in a city where riots occur frequently.
Regarding her appearance... is there anything to avoid overlooking the protagonist from the start? No idea.
