Maybe it's the long-term effects of magic on the human brain. Maybe it's the eccentricity of genius. Whatever the case, Sunset Shimmer needs to defuse a sub-critical Twilight Sparkle, and she needs to do so before scalpels get involved.
An entry in the Crazy Cybernetics Story Contest. Rated Teen for suggestive concepts north of what EqG could get away with. Crosses over on the level of the tabletop game; no actual entities from the Warhammer universe appear in this story and no familiarity with it should be necessary.
can you find the misspelled word that completely changes it and the sentence?
because i just did! :P
it is still a metal tentacle you naughty girl.
just because they are not in your head does not mean that the nerves being tampered with are not neuro science / rocket surgery!
god but those novels were shit . . .
such a power bottom...
i think i noticed some other grammar thing to be corrected, but i read past it and can not find it on my second go <.<
Sunset, you know better than this. The costume is entirely your own fault.
Yeah, which semi-canon pairing was she referring to?

Also, Twi wanted to turn herself into Doc Ock!
You know, Rainbow Dash never mentioned how Twi's overdoing affected her speed magic.

Games Workshop stole it first. (I checked and Otto predates WH40k by a full two decades)
I was figuring Adepta Sororitas initially, but Callidus Assassin fits better.
Shining is the third wheel at his own sibling bonding time.
Being in love with (and hot for) your best friend can be a wonderful adventure. The subtext for intention is thin and easy to see, just like Sunset’s costume.
Seriously, some cosplayers are devil may care brave when it comes to revealing costumes that would make bikini wearers on Daytona Beach blush.
This was fun.
I think that describes how I picture their relationship too.
Uh huh.
Sounds like she was trying to be Doctor Octavius.
Ok, I guess she's really trying to.
Good on him.
Never thought I'd hear him mention the part on the FG.
What he said.
Makes sense now that I think about it.
I'm glad I didn't have to know anything about the war hammer franchise just so I could read this story. Not that I've heard of it or anything but glad I gave this story a read, and enjoyed it.
i fucking love this, PLEASE make it a consistent thing for eqg fics lmfao
Hmm. If Sunset was to play HH, what army would she build...?
Gotta say, I never heard Vader described like that before.
Twilight really is one sleep deprived afternoon away from becoming a supervillain
Also I appreciate that her first instinct when putting Sunset in a costume is to make eye candy for herself. making Sunset walk around in skintight clothing all day is both silent payback and eye candy. Hilarious
The nerd is strong in this one. I heartily approve!
When your GF can build that kind of tech in her garage you know you're in for an interesting relationship
12166972
I agree, it was also a good part of the story.

FoME has all but stated that he only uses the "asthmatic" part when the speaking character isn't especially familiar with Star Wars. Specifically, to placate me when I pointed out that being injured to the point of needing an oxygen intake isn't the same thing as asthma.
12167114
On one hand, ponies are the bizarre lovechild of Orks (cutie marks, having authority makes you bigger for no reason) and the Tau (attempting peace by means other than genocide of everyone else, concerningly in favor of mind control). On the other, Sunset can plausibly be read as a reverse otherkin so it doesn't really matter what ponies are like because they aren't really her people.
12167207
Do you have to reply to all my comments on FoME's behalf?
12166736
Thanks for the typo catch. And yes, friends don't let friends conduct sleep-deprived autoneurosurgery.
12166741
Gratitude that your
crushbest friend isn't going to perform unnecessary surgery on herself and guilt over treating her like a bullying victim is not a recipe for good heat-of-the-moment decision making.12166763
I considered having Dash post massive walls of text because her sense of time had uncontrollably dilated, but it didn't play well with her texting style. There are people who I can see punctuating their texts, and Rainbow Dash is not one of them.
12166905
Given Sunset's history with the closest thing her home universe has to the Emperor, nun-with-gun would've been more than a little awkward, yeah.
12166932
The siblings got plenty of time to geek out together, but this was a conversation that needed to happen.
12166934
Glad to know it worked for those with zero familiarity with Warhammer. And yeah, Shining's part in getting Twilight to join the Friendship Games team needed to be acknowledged. It may not have been a major part, but I imagine Shining holds himself to just as high a standard as Twilight, especially in regards to looking out for family.
12166972 12167204
Heh. Glad to know it worked. It was mostly an excuse to use the site's ponemojis.
12167171
Twilight stands by her
flimsy justificationentirely rational explanation for putting Sunset in a skintight bodysuit.12167196
We know Shining Armor is a colossal nerd. This truth transcends species.
12167269
As someone who has a younger sister himself, I can totally understand it thoroughly.
would never have workedanyway, she didn't have the right sacred candles or blessed oils
Twilight would 100% be a tech priest, though for Sunset I was expecting an Inquisitor or Sister of Battle.
12167704
Which is why the story goes out of its way to justify its actual choice, and I'm not talking about the Sciset subtext that's practically text.
Spine augmentation are a perfectly sane idea :)
You'd think it'd be easier to just, telekinetically manipulate a few specific bearings within the joints of the arm/arms itself. But hey, wouldn't be a Twilight if she didn't go absolutely extra on a project!
Great fic! Fantastic characterization.
Another FoME banger, as expected. Such a banger that I read it three times over! Love me some good Sciset, "crazy person/sane man" dynamic.
(I will admit the Warhammer tag threw me off initially, but I'm glad I gave the story a shot anyway. In my mind, the names are made up and the references don't matter.)
Wholesome, very Sci-Twi, even pony-Twilight would have enough common sense to tell her “no” on amatuere auto-surgery.
Needs Equestria Girls tag!
For a second there I thought you wrote a displaced fic.
Earlier:
"Well, I guess that's the only way of doing this." Twilight sighed and shook her head. "If only there was some easier way of making the arms move according to my direct will without any obvious interface," she mused as she used her magical telekinesis to maneuver nineteen different scientific implements into their needed place, "but I just can't imagine what that would be."
12167346 12167704
I never found room to fit it in, but Twilight genuinely dislikes the concept of the Cult Mechanicus, especially actual scientific understanding being replaced by what amounts to a far-future cargo cult. Whether this had any bearing on her issues building the mechadendrites is a matter for the theologians.
12167927
For given values of "sane," sure!
12167965 12168460
One of the major sticking points in the design was that Twilight didn't want visible magic glow on the moving parts. She thought of it as cheating.
12167975
One of the joys of Sciset is that depending on the situation, either of them can act as straight man. (Never mind that it's an F/F couple.
)
Glad you enjoyed this episode of Whose Franchise is it Anyway?
12168019
Yes, yes it did. Thanks for the poke.
12168270
Nah, the Merchant hasn't returned my calls since I sicced Ms. Harshwhinny on him.
Very fitting ringtone.
With Sunset unaware that her magic was surging out of control while she was cleaning her apartment, it's a good thing she can't read the mind of fungi (for example, the mildew in her shower).
In Sunset's defense, no one would have expected Twilight Sparkle to do something so forward. The fact that Twilight followed through with that plan indicates some strong motivation.
Speaking of motivation, maybe these two should make it official before the robotics expert who knows Sunset's exact measurements starts building something.
I don't know anything about Warhammer, and it didn't matter because this is great! Adored the callback to "Overpowered". ^^
"And if that didn't work, I could probably extrapolate them from the drone I have monitoring you at all times."
"What?"
"What?"
Is that a GenCon reference? Love the story otherwise. This is totally a Twilight (of either variety) thing to do
.
“I know it’s a clumsy of putting it, but Wranglish doesn’t have a lot of terms for the sensations of magic usage.”
“Of magic overusage." Some part of Sunset was aware that her tone had changed. The rest was focused on throwing on her jacket and minimizing the damage. "Stop casting now, I’ll be over as soon as I swing by the corner store.”
oooh.
...
ah.
...
HA!
...
Sunset checked the corner of her phone. “11:20.”
“Thursday.”
Sunset and Shining both sighed. “That explains so much,” she said.
aah. And she can channel magic for days! Well, not continuously, but eh. Also a ref to a Royal Road ad. heh.
...
Twilight giggled at that. “After today? He’d probably be disappointed if you didn’t come.”
“I’m not sure how to feel about you coming,” Shining admitted.
Ha!
...
"And the fact that I'm in a skintight bodysuit has nothing to do with it."
Twilight slipped into a prim monotone. "The disciples of the Omnissiah are above such fleshy concerns."
Sunset stuck out her tongue. "Sure they are."
Ha!
......
“When was the last time you slept?” said Shining.
Twilight hesitated for a moment. “What time is it?”
Sunset checked the corner of her phone. “11:20.”
“Thursday.”
Just checked, we dunno what day this conversation is taking place on?
I'm not even a Warhammer fan, but I LOVE what you do with the lore in EQG :3

Sunset is a good
girlfriendbest friend to SciTwi, who is adorably subtle in herflirtationpaybackShining is also best BBBFF in any universe
A work of art, for sure!
"The warp is real and the Eldar are magical colorful ponies."
Twilight could 100% do a good Hadron-Omega-77 impression
12228808
Ponies as Eldar has some concerning implications... though given some interpretations of Celestia, it wouldn't surprise me too much. (That said, Equestria does work as an Exodite Maiden World.)
