Fighting with Qurio

Gaismagorm stopped at the edge of the Badlands, a greenish cliff overlooking the jagged land below. He stood still, deep in thought again.

“The Gaismagorm in Sunbreak survived three dragonators—one of them a giant that exploded while piercing its chest. Not sure if it hit any vital organs, but if it did, then the fact he fell back into his lair and got back up like nothing happened…” he muttered to himself and the few Qurio who heard him

To finally bring him down, they had to shoot his face full of bullets, punch and slash him a hundred times while more explosives dropped around him, a fourth dragonator struck him, his tail got cut off, and then a—

“Brain, stop thinking about another Gaismagorm getting butchered. Focus,” grumbled Gaismagorm.

Even with all that in mind, this Gaismagorm wasn’t about to test his luck. It might not kill him, but he knew it would hurt like hell.

He scanned the area, searching for a path down—until he noticed something under his claw. A flower.

“Oops-“

A massive worm burst from the ground, tackling Gaismagorm off the cliff.

“WHAT THE FUUUUU—!”

The two crashed below, with the Taltzwurm using Gaismagorm’s body to cushion its fall.

He was right. He could survive the fall without issue. But sweet merciful pickle, it hurt. Gaismagorm roared, rising on his hind legs and snarling at the worm. The Taltzwurm lunged again, but Gaismagorm smacked it aside into a stone tower, which collapsed on both of them.

Gaismagorm clawed out of the rubble just in time to see the worm leap and body-slam him like a living bomb. He crashed onto his back but rolled over as the Taltzwurm tried to sink its teeth into his neck.

Gaismagorm punched the thing’s chest, but the worm coiled around his arm.

And that gave him an idea.

With a grunt, the elder dragon slammed his bound arm down. The pain stunned the worm just long enough for Gaismagorm to seize it by the head.

“FEED ON IT!” he roared, and the Qurio swarmed over the Taltzwurm like a plague. The beast convulsed, then went still, dried up like a husk.

All over a damn flower.

Gaismagorm tossed the corpse aside and inhaled the Qurio back into himself with a long sigh. “Well, at least I got down faster than expected…”

Meanwhile, the chimera—now soaked in blood-red coloration—roared and swiped at Twilight, who barely dodged in time. The unicorn fired a blast of magic at the creature’s face, but the chimera barreled through it and pinned her under its claws. Just as the tiger head raised its jaws to bite down, the goat head was lassoed by Applejack.

The monster toppled forward but scrambled up again with a furious screech.

Rainbow Dash slammed into it from above while Pinkie Pie launched a barrage from her party cannon.

“Twilight!” Fluttershy called as she rushed over. “What happened to the chimera?!”

“I don’t know! It was normal until the Qurio started whispering to each other. Then it just changed. Broke free from its restraints and began attacking anything that moved!”

Rarity smashed a chair over the monster’s back, but its snake tail snapped out and coiled around her.

“HEY!” Applejack kicked the chimera hard in the chest, forcing it to release Rarity and sending it flying into the nearby Plundervines—which quickly entangled it.

“What are those vines?!” Fluttershy asked Twilight.

“I have no idea! They just burst into town and started dragging buildings underground!”

The chimera snarled, slashing at the vines as injuries accumulated across her body. Blood began to drip onto the ground.

“Twilight, we have to stop her before she hurts herself!” cried Fluttershy.

“Herself?! What about us?” Rainbow shouted as the chimera unleashed another wave of fire. The flames barely affected the vines but kept them at bay.

Twilight and Rarity tried to hold the monster with their magic while the rest of the Mane Six yanked at Applejack’s lasso, pulling the chimera free from the vines. As the beast collapsed, the red hue faded from her fur, and her eyes returned to normal.

But the Qurio were still there.

The unicorns pinned her down while the others helped secure her.

“Kill me…” whispered the tiger head, breath ragged and shallow. “The hunger, the pain, it hurts…”

The ponies looked at each other in stunned silence. Fluttershy stepped forward, trembling, but resolute.

She locked eyes with the cluster of Qurio. “What are you doing to her?!”

You took us from our host. She was all we had left.

“What?”

Gaismagorm is gone. We didn’t hear his call. But we feel his absence.

“Gone? Why not find him?”

We don’t know where. And we can’t survive long without a host. It’s her life—or ours.

Before Fluttershy could respond, the chimera’s body erupted in red glow once more. Glowing Qurio particles enveloped her limbs as she screamed, forcing her way free of the unicorns’ grip. Dozens of Qurio flitted into the air.

And then—boom.

A red explosion burst from the chimera, scattering the Mane Six. The beast charged another fireball, this one aimed at Fluttershy—

But a beam of light intercepted the blast.

Princess Celestia and Princess Luna landed between the monster and the ponies, flanked by guards.

The guards rushed to evacuate civilians. The princesses opened fire with powerful spells, injuring the chimera. The Qurio swarmed around them but were burned away by alicorn magic—only to retreat back to their tortured host.

“She’s getting stronger!” Twilight shouted. “We need the Elements—NOW!”

“But what about the chimera?!” Fluttershy cried, watching blood and tears stream down the monster’s face.

“We’ll unfreeze her when we find a cure. But right now, this is the only way,” Twilight said grimly, summoning the Elements from her bag.

Fluttershy hesitated—but nodded.

A rainbow flash surged across the square. The chimera froze in place, locked in time, the Qurio still writhing on her body.

The ponies sighed in relief.

“Well,” Celestia said softly, stepping forward with Luna. “I had hoped we’d reunite under better circumstances, but… here we are.”

“Princesses?!” the Mane Six gasped in unison.

“Hello, my little—” Celestia began, but was abruptly grabbed by a vine.

Luna and Twilight moved to help her, but before they could react, the vine shriveled—scared off by the lingering energy of the Elements.

“You alright?” Twilight asked, helping her up.

“Yes. Just startled,” Celestia replied. “But… this whole situation is startling.”

“When we got your letter, we were puzzled,” Luna added, holding up the ink-splotched parchment. “We know how precise you usually are. So we knew it must’ve been urgent.”

Twilight gave a small, embarrassed smile—but her face quickly turned serious.

“Do either of you know anything about these Qurio? Or their master… Gaismagorm?”

Celestia and Luna exchanged a glance.

“I’m sorry,” Celestia said. “We’ve never heard of either.”

“It may be something ancient—older than even our reign,” Luna added. “But we’ll search every tome we have.”

Behind her, another vine crept in—only to be disintegrated by Pinkie’s Element.

Twilight looked around at the broken town, the scattered Qurio particles drifting like ash.

But Luna raised her voice over the stillness. “Do not fear. We are here to help, in whatever way we can.”

“And perhaps,” Celestia added, “we may find some clue in Equestria’s oldest stories…”
