There was a soup of leeks and fennel that smelled so good and warmed my belly even while the air was still cool. I've tried for centuries to have the Palace cooks prepare it, but it's never been quite right [...]

Lovely moment between the sisters. Luna carrying moments that had escaped Celestia's memory makes a beautiful kind of sense. Their mutual hatred of winter makes a more tragic one. Thank you for this.

This was lovely.

Both looked out at the snow for a minute longer before Celestia could find the words. "You know, there is a tale from centuries ago–"

Luna snorted, cutting her sister off. "I am not your precious student in need of fables to entertain me as you seek to teach life lessons."

The solar alicorn pursed her lips. "I merely want to point out that the snow isn't so bad. Ponies have learned to love it, just like they–"

"If you attempt to draw a comparison between a blizzard and ponies' attitudes towards my night, I shall sock you in the face."

There was a long moment of silence before Celestia laughed and side-hugged her sister with a wing. "Have I said yet today how much I missed you and your ability to speak frankly?"

Luna's own lips quirked a little smile. "And to see through your paper-thin plots? Nay, not yet today."

Heh. There's nothing quite like the acerbic affection between siblings.

i love how you captured Princess Celestia and Luna so fricking well here.

A wonderful little story.

I love how much texture and sensory richness you put into their memories in just a few lines, and in the same space use them as an effective contrast for how deadly something as simple as winter can be, and how taken for granted it's become. Very much enjoyed.

This is one of those short but big stories.

Yeah, I do understand the hate toward snow, little secret among sisters while little ponies play winter games mostly oblivious about horrors of the ancient howling snows.

I love crab apples to... and yes they are disgusting.

I love this story.
