Troposphere

In a hole in the ground there lived a rabbit. It was a rabbit-hole, and that means comfort. (If you're a rabbit, that is).

E

Lyra Heartstrings tries her hoof at writing fanfiction. She succeeds beyond her wildest expectations.

A sort-of-crossover with Watership Down (the novel, rather than its animated adaptations), which you probably need to be reasonably familiar with before this makes much sense.

(Originally intended to be a synopsis for a much longer fic when I wrote it back in November 2017, but nothing ever came of that, and I've since come to think the laconic style here actually works better for the idea.)

What is My Little Bunny?

The story explains that.

I recognized that title immediately and kept cackling gleefully every time I recognized a canon story moment.

I’ve been reading WD since I was a child in the 1970s and am happy to say you nailed it perfectly. Well done.

Never thought I'd come across a metafiction. A well-written one at that too!

I wonder how we'd all cherish our little "phase" of ours. Would we cringe at what we have piddled? Or would we look back here with rose-tinted fondness? In the end, would it matter?

Thanks for the kind assessment.

Most of us, I think, don't have quite as phased obsessions as Lyra seems to have here. At least my experience is that people who drift away from the fandom tend to do so more with a whimper slow sigh than with a bang. They just start coming online less and less often, intervals increasing from weeks, to months, to years. Sure there are some who ragequit conspicuously after fandom drama, but they are in the minority ...

This is the way the fan ends
This is the way the fan ends
This is the way the fan ends
Not with a bang but with a whine

That was really elegantly done. I love Hazel as Lyra’s Donut Steel. And of course Bon Bon as Inle at heh end. Quite against type.

And the “phases” thing fits my headcanon of Lyra having ADHD.

There’s a level of meta I’m not sure you intended where Lyra’s Watership Down feels a little like it has role in brunny fandom that Fallout: Equestria has in Brony.

And when I wrote my Fallout: Equestria story Lyra was the protagonist. This means nothing but amuses me.

Well done!

Thank you.

Yes, that was exactly the intention. The analogy is rather loose, though, because I haven't actually read FO:E myself. (Which for this purpose is probably good; otherwise I might have tied myself into knots trying to draw unsustainable parallels between the plots).

Yeah... this works.

Okay, this amused me. Even as a Pipkin fan who (a long time ago) wrote a little article about why he was undervalued in the fandom, it amused me. Definitely one where you need to be familiar with the book, but why not? Also, I'm nicking "brunny fandom" from Captain_Hairball. :rainbowwild:

Yes well, I'm a slow reader myself. (With apologies to Hugh Laurie's Prince Regent...)

I can’t count how may copies I’ve worn out. 😆
