Carrot and Chestnut Soup
For completeness sake, the soup Rainbow Dash made. It was very tasty. - TS
Ingredients
1 large onion, chopped
2tbsp olive oil
15 sage leaves
200g (7oz) cooked, chestnuts, roughly chopped
500g (1lb) carrots, peeled and thinly sliced
1 litre (1¾pt) vegetable stock
3tbsp crème fraîche
In a large saucepan, soften the onion in 1tbsp olive oil for 5 minutes. Shred 3 of the sage leaves and add to the onion. Add the chestnuts, carrots and stock to the pan and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat, partially cover and simmer for 25 minutes, until the carrots are tender.
Heat 1tbsp oil in a small frying pan and add the rest of the sage leaves. Fry until crisp and fragrant but not coloured, then drain on kitchen towel. Use a mechanical blender to purée the soup until smooth (or a Magilux Blender if you are able). Season to taste.
Reheat gently until piping hot, then ladle into warmed bowls. Top with a spoonful of crème fraîche, the sage leaves and pepper.
Well, that was informative
This is THE BEST recipe I've ever found in a fanfic!
Oh. After the sandwich line, I thought this was a euphemism. Guess not.
That's quite handy, but as a nitpick, shouldn't there be a space before tbsp?
Looks like quite the souper recipe.

1626862 You've heard of others? Where, if you don't mind my asking?
Sounds remarkably like one of my favourite recipes to make during the fall, especially with the inclusion of the crispy sage leaves as both flavouring agent and garnish.
It uses pumpkin, although any other winter squash will do, and you add celery, onion and garlic as well as the carrot.
Beyond that, it's practically the same.
at first i thought this was another diary
I want to try this, sounds like it may be tasty.

A space between the number an the unit is something of a standing argument. It's OK to include it or not so long as you are consistent and it doesn't cause confusion, (some fonts need the space).
That is really random to put in a journal/book.
15 sage leaves?
As an amateur cook I have to ask, isn't that a bit overpowering?
Have you actually made this recipe? If so, how did it turn out?
Wat.
A liter is about 2.1 pints.
Sounds tasty.
If anyone tries to cook and eat this, will someone tell me how it went?

Woo! I can finally use my cooking knowlege for something mlp relate. I've been a cook for about a decade now, and am a sous chef at a resort. Anyway, only 3 of the sage leaves were directly for seasoning. most of the sage in this recipe is for making the fried sage leaves. I'll give it a try and see how it comes out, but the recipe seems sound.
I like how there is no salt in the recipe, I'm not sure how much added salt ponies in this world would ever add to foods, (I know Pinkie mentions salt in her cupcake song), but I feel it would be very little for some reason.
Wow, Twi felt the need to give the soup recipe from a small entry at the start for the sake of completeness. That girl needs therapy.

When you fry the sage, most of it is used as a garnish but it infuses the oil with some of the flavour so you get some of the sage in there, but it's not overpowering.

The recipe is sound, I've made a similar kind of soup several times but with pumpkin as the base instead of carrots. That one also benefits from the parmesan croutons that are eaten with it.

I've done it in two of mine, but they were nothing special. Anyone (well, maybe that's giving some people I've met a little too much credit) could make it. *Shrugs*
1632101 xD if its a recipe your definitly there joe xDD
Anyway the soup itself sounds pretty good I'll have to make it sometime xP

This chapter, yummy soup recipe. I LoLed hard!
I'm not sure about cooking, but I am a fairly good tea brewer (well, everybody in my family can cook some sort of special dish, so I'm sort of the odd one odd in that regard) and sage leaves do actually make for nice tea. Strong, but nice. So do pine and spruce needles.
Well, that was decidedly random
