Starlight Glimmer offers Cozy Glow a cup of empathy cocoa. She doesn't drink it. What in Equestria could be going on in the mind of that seemingly innocent filly?!
A goofy one-shot poking fun at the idea that Cozy ignoring her empathy cocoa must be a sign of her being evil. I have zero talent for picking up on foreshadowing like that, and find it both amusing and amazing that any fans were able to pick up on it.
I have a de-ja-vu, they had not published this fanfic before or it is just the image.
Or she could be allergic to chocolate

I just wrote this story today, so you haven't seen it before, unless someone else had the same idea I did and wrote something similar, which is possible.

Yep, that was my thought process, pretty much.
Starlight “If you have a hot chocolate and I have a hot chocolate and I have a straw” she teleported a straw to her “my straw goes across this desk and I drink YOUR COCOA I DRINK IT UP” slurps it down. I actually don’t like hot chocolate. I prefer coffee.
In fairness, while in real life there could be any number of reasons for someone not drinking "empathy coco" and there may not be anything suspicious going on, in fiction every detail like that is put in intentionally. The writers chose to have Starlight refer to her coco as "empathy coco" and for Cozy not to take a sip.
So it is a legitimate bit of foreshadowing, even if it's a bit of weak as evidence on it's own. Still a funny little idea for a story though.

You want dark foreshadowing Cozy’s friendship statue could have been a foreshadowing to her petrification and probably was but when she and tirek were teleported away the statue crumbled.
12101237
I was aware of that. Though I never claimed to have wanted it.
12101337
I know I just said it that way. Meant nothing by it.
12101338
It's alright
I was expecting Starlight to be more outwardly dramatic. That would've made the "I'm lactose intolerant" part better. Nonetheless, I did like the ending lmao
Of course, what Starlight doesn't realize is that she'd forgotten Cozy telling her this in the past, and this casual act of unintended cruelty set the filly down a dark path....
16/0 so far and on the sinbox (congrats btw)
bring on indeed
WHAT KIND OF EVIL, TWISTED TARTARUS-SPAWN DOESN'T LIKE CHOCOLATE!?

Me I mean I like chocolate flavoured things but regular chocolate I don’t like unless it’s Hershey's cookies and cream.

*raises hoof*

.)
I personally love hot chocolate, but I'm lactose intolerant myself, so I wouldn't drink empathy cocoa either. (And yeah, that's where I got the idea for the story
12101229
Yeah, I think you're right. The fun of being an MLP fan, though, is getting complete license to overanalyze anything and everything that you want, regardless of the intents of the show creators. So in my headcanon, Cozy is allergic to dairy or chocolate (or just doesn't like one of them).

I'm glad you liked the story!
Lol, I can totally see that now that you say it. Missed opportunity, I guess.

My new headcanon for why Cozy became evil.
12101617
Lol, thank you!

(Clearly I like this emoji)
Empathy means to understand someone’s feelings and when you listen to Cozy speak to starlight it sounds like she does understand she made a mistake since she wasn’t trying to get them in trouble. Still don’t buy her being evil in her debut episode it just doesn’t make sense. She didn’t know about the artifacts so she couldn’t of already been planning to take over the school and why would she create more obstacles for herself by getting the cmc in the school if that was her original goal.

To be a master manipulator, you do need empathy. It may not be emotional, but Cozy glow does definitely have that, so I'll give you that
This was a fun story that shed light on a throw away scene which is always nice. Now my headcannon is cozy is lactose intolerant.
Cool, now my headcanoning Cozy Glow as lactose intolerant. You can take my upvote now for this good fic

I don't have any firm headcanons as to whether or not she was already evil in "Marks for Effort," but I definitely see where you're coming from. Her guilt about failing her friendship test definitely seemed to be genuine. I at least don't think she was a hardened villain by that point.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
