the amount of lore i made for this one-shot that will never see the light of day...
Stars. You were right. I think stories like this are the reason I'm still on this site. The interactions, the emotions, the way the characters play off one another. Rarity and Twilight do it so well, and I thank you eternally for bringing it out between them again and again. But I think in general, just seeing all the cast, together. Is why I love this world
Thanks for reminding me Mono 💖
Writing of this quality is the reason I am adicted to Raritiw, even when its toxic.
Few can write intereactions like you do.
Superb.

Comments And likes here even though the story has been read by zero people? Lmao
But i did it too, didn't I? Your stories never fail to impress, with nightmare Rarity in the mix things are bound to be even cooler!
Wonderful story. Amazing work!
I am definitely on Rarity's side though.
Well that turned dark... A Rarity who falls so far as to create homunculi (or the pony equivalent) of her friends, because she cannot deal with their deaths. Poor Twilight, and also poor Rarity.
There are.... SO many emotions going on here, and I am utterly failing at unpacking them all.
The one thought I have, is that I think Twilight is lying. Singularity, or Rarity, might believe her, but I am not so sure I do. She claims to not care enough to kill her, but I suspect it's the opposite. SinguRarity is the very last link, however frail and tenuous it is, to Twilight's old life, and to the friends and home she had so long ago. And I think that killing her, killing it, will force her to truly move on, or destroy her if she can't. So she's forcing herself - forcing them both - to continue living in this limbo, that they have mutually turned into a toxic hell of love gone wrong and bitter hatred.
oofs...

Ah homunculi (or pony pun equivalent... ponculi?) My first guess what with the "miracle" in the last chapter was that Rarity (or whomever it turned out to be) dabbled in Necromancy or other forbidden arts.
I can see Twilight returning to Singularity one day, one way or another, but what I can't see is the cycle repeating the same way it did before.
When she said that she was done caring, I think she truly meant it, at least partially.
Maybe Twilight's sort of obsessed over Singularity, but obsessing is just Twilight being Twilight, that's nothing new.
Maybe life has become a tad dull for Twilight over the centuries. And Singularity brings a sort of... sick spice to her life.
But Twilight has certainly still lived and loved and feels things deep and true without Singularity - despite her.
Whatever these two have going on - it may have occurred from a point of desperation but it was Rarity that was so drastically changed while Twilight relatively stayed the same.
Rarity may now be akin to a black hole, where everything is drawn together to the point that it all loses meaning - but Twilight is still a star. She could've been pulled into whatever it is that's left of Rarity, but this back and forth of theirs seems to have burned her out first.
Singularity is going to do something sick and sociopathic and stupid to draw Twilight back, and Twilight will probably come back, but her heart isn't going to be as in it anymore. And maybe that's moving on in it's own way: burning out and gradually caring less and less
One of the key reasons why I got into pony was just how character driven things are, especially in fan works, these aren't just Dick and Jane fairy tales these are all intense, unique, wonderful, horrible, and everything else individuals. In the words of the fic wizard Cold in Gardez "stories about ponies are stories about people.
Another reason is just how versatile ponies are, other fandoms I've participated in are shallow creeks compared to the veritable flood that is Fimfic.
As to this story, At first Twilight seems perfectly rational, and okay maybe a bit too controlling where her staff are concerned, but it seems like it's out of a genuinely Twilight Sparkle caring too much sort of way. Then the pony-unculi golem things (my first guess was actually necromancy)
) Rarity is Nightmare Rarity or something? Rarity used forbidden magics to keep herself alive? or is it Twilight who is the real sinner here? One of them was lying or prevaricating but was it one? the other? both? Maybe they aren't lying per se, but rather like the episode with the boat they each THOUGHT they were telling the truth but are simply unaware that it's not what they think/say/believe/wish it was/is.
ALL of this is turned around in a 5th dimensional un-reason sort of way (if that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, good, I don't entirely know what I'm saying either
All I can say is I love your fluff stories, but this one makes me wish to read more about this anti-verse (for lack of better words).
I mean, I'm pretty sure some of her clients are into that.

Sometimes, the worst thing you can be is right.
Oh, oh this was amazing, utterly amazing!

...I have need to know this lore Mono...
Was "realm" really the word you wanted to use here? Equestria is the realm of Pony-kind, though I guess that the Crystal Empire could be counted as a separate one. I think "world" would have served you better here.
I need you to write more in this universe immediately!

You should know better by now, than to think people won't want to see it. Like, it may not have been what 12096310 technically meant but it'll probably suffice.

God this is FANTASTIC I LOVE THIS SO MUCH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I LIVE FOR THE KIND OF TOXIC YURI WHO HATE EACH OTHER BUT ALSO CAN'T LIVE WITOHUT EACH OTHER I HAD NEVER CONSIDERED NIGHTMARE RARITY AND TWILIGHT BUT NOW IM OBSESSED THE WAY THIS DYNAMIC IS WRITTEN IS JUST SO SO AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I CANNOT PUT INTO WORDS, THE MESSED UP THING WITH SINGULARITY HAVING PUPPETS OF THEIR FRIENDS WHICH IM GETTING THE OBVIOUS IMPLICATION THAT SHE WOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING HORRIBLE TO KEEP THEM ALIVE IF SHE HAD EMBRACED THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE THEY DIED, AND NOW BLAMES TWILIGHT FOR NOT DOING THE SAME, AND THEN THE DYNAMIC WITH TWILIGHT HATING HER AND WANTING HER GONE BECAUSE SHE'S A REMINDER OF SOMETHING PAINFUL BUT ALSO THAT PAIN IS THE ONLY THING SHE CAN FEEL ANYMORE AND RARITY IS IN THE SAME POSITION OF HATING TWILIGHT FOR NOT SAVING THEIR FRIENDS BUT HOW COULD SHE GO ON IF SHE LOST HER TOO THEY'RE TWO IMMORTALS STUCK WITH EACH OTHER BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE UNDERSTANDS AND CAN MAKE THEM FEEL AS ALIVE AS EACH OTHER AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH THIS IS AMAZIIIING
Also I am so curious about the lore of this story, what's the deal with the element of generosity, how did Singularity come about assuming it was not just the same way as nightmare rarity, are the puppets truly puppets, aaaah!
Really wonderful one shot, so much lore elements presented in such a little bit of time.
If I had to say something bad about it, it would be that we won't be seeing anything more about this amazing world, but in any case, it may be for the best 'cause this was the type of inconclusive story that works best with an open finale.

Still... If you wanted to expand on this I'm sure no one would object, especially not me
Holy fuck. This was fantastic.
I don't see the problem. Best case they are cheating death and actually have the original soul. Worst case it's just a well crafted reflection, they don't seem twisted and even gain experience. I like em sure the faces must be pretty surreal to interact with but those sound like real pony hearts inside. As long as the creations aren't broken by their very unnatural existence it's all good. (No more snacks ;-;)
(Someone get pinky some jumbo googly eyes)
You and your sunforsaken ethics
I hate ethics it's ush so humancentric and it sickens me how we can Frankenstein plants even animals but the moment you touch a humans DNA your a monster. (How tf is it so acceptable that euthanasia is known to be a respectful death for dogs and such to ease suffering but no my dementia seizuring grandma deserves to suffer way past what God intended on forced hospital fees and 100 pills a day) (if I ever end up in a coma and your wondering about pulling the plug for the love of God don't broadcast me on national television)
Im with rarity she seems like the good guy even if she's using dark magic it's seems like all she's doing is equivalent exchange all laid out on the table. If I knew what I wanted I would take the deal just as well
I'm glad twilight has such a good frenemy for her eternal lifespan (fugin commie rules for thee not for me @immortaility)
Much better than my initial assumption was. Glad I read it!
Great descriptions, great dialog, and a very well thought out story.

that's similar to how Hemingway wrote his stories. All of his works were ten times longer in the drafts compared with the published product.
----
Oh and, good tale. I must say I really felt the dynamic between them.
🔥 Sick 🔥 lines 🔥 broski 🔥
This is a delightful twist on the classic what-if-immortality tale. Not-Rarity's capital city, the twisted dark magic that oozes from her creations, the clash of ethics, the moments I was certain she and Twilight were going to kiss (cuz it's a Mono story, so all enemies must therefore become lovers, right?). This story has a remarkable level of resolution on character while maintaining a level of scope and grandeur that makes the world feel vast :) great work
I wasn't completely sure how I felt about this story until the last line. Audibly gasped lol.
Great work.
This is just oh dear celestia I have so many questions and yet feel like it's perfectly written as it is and leaving us guessing as to all questions would ruin a bit of it. That it unless the author decides to make a prequel showing how rarity became the way she is
