It's the journey that counts, not the destination. (He/Him)

Before the Bearers of Harmony, before the Sisters, there were others.

Standing at the twilight of her life, Dame Firefly of Dream Valley feels glad to have lived to see the dawn of a new age, heralded by the birth of Celestia and Luna.

But there are old friends with whom she must reunite, and a long-ago place she must revisit, before she can finish finding peace in her heart.

A tale set in the greater universe of Spectrum, though knowledge of that work is not required to understand this short story.

“Hitherto, even as our tribes bickered, the unicorns made a costly sacrifice for all,” said Clover. “Every morning, under the guidance of my mentor, five unicorns gave up their magic so the Sun might carry on her course, blazing a thousandfold hotter and brighter than this fire. Only seldom could we bring the gift of the Moon. Now her light shall bless our every night too.”

If only Luna knew how she too was appreciated for so long...

Excellent start, Vox  Lots of intrigue woven in the classic tale of Hearthswarming here, and I look forward to seeing the rest up.

“Would you rather there be only one?” Clover asked of her. “A lonely pony, without any like her in the world she could relate to?

“Still…” said the farmer. “Be it two or one…”

Her eyes narrowed subtly, and her voice carried just a pinch of envy.

“Three pony tribes. Why only two? Why not three?”

Earthponies need more love, of course.

Thanks, Sledge, 12075112. It isn't entirely how I'd planned it, but here's to the tenth anniversary milestone of my writing membership on Spectrum.

Nice picture of Firefly, click Source... 404
Shorten the url... Nothing to do with ponies. Maybe a mistake?

No, 12075143, unfortunately, the original picture can apparently no longer be found on DeviantArt, at least not under that name.
:ajsleepy:

The picture can be found here on Derpibooru, if you really want a source, but I felt it'd only be correct to link this back to where the artist first posted it.

(Although given the changes to the artist's DeviantArt page, evidently they no longer associate with ponies.)
