In this HiE story, Kai Everette is a former illustrator who stumbled into Equestria by certain means. Taking in his new life with a rather calm demeanor, Kai has since assimilated himself into pony society. But after a long time of part-times and frequent freelance gigs, Kai wishes to go back to what he loves best; drawing comics and manga. And with the lackluster catalog of comics/manga available in this ponyfied world, he has a feeling he can definitely make a name for himself.

Not a bad story at all. I chuckled at certain parts and the character and story have potential.
Some of the dialogue does feel a bit forced but on the same note I can't write dialogue for shit so what would I know. One thing I can say is that the spaces infront of quotation marks gets on my nerves. eg. " This" instead of "This". Its really not that big a deal but it mildly pisses me off.
I also like Kai quite a bit. He kinda falls into that self-insert HiE category but what can I say, I'm a sucker for this kind of thing. I also like the name Kai.

Me too! Even though there's canonical hints that Fluttershy has read dragon Ball, Ranman 1/2, etc, we don't get many other easter eggs. Like imagine if ponies read One Piec or Flash (which I'm sure Rainbow would love)?
On that note, I actually found a story here a long time ago (2022?) that was something like this, but I can't remember the name. It's what inspired this story, in fact. I do hope I can execute this properly, though... But thanks for reading!

I like that Kai is explaining Power Rangers, though now I'm envisioning Kai being able to show Spike and others some of the Super Sentai stuff and their brains melting when trying to comprehend Zenkaiger or Donbrothers (those two are REALLY weird even by Sentai standards)

Nice update. It's cool to see more of Kai's character and get a bit more of his backstory. I hope at some point you get to how he got to Equestria, many stories struggle with making that interesting so I am excited to see how you tackle it. Hm, I will admit that I'm feeling a bit conflicted now. Initially you had my interest with the short description and the idea of bringing a manga as grim and dark as berserk into the land of Equestria and seeing how the populous reacts, but now I'm getting the impression that that isn't the central theme at all. Could be misinterpreting and the pokemon conversation is just what sparks him into beginning his deep dive into adapting more extreme works, but that's the impression this chapter left on me.

Thanks for reading, and sorry for the confusion. I understand that there is confliction between the story description and the actual story so far, but the upcoming chapters I'm working on should hopefully clarify the route I'm going. I do plan on making Kai introduce dark/mature content into Equestria, but slow paced. Right now I'm currently figuring out a roadmap for Kai's journey, namely what series he'll be introducing and some other minor details. Hope this clears things up a bit!
Really nice chapter. The story's pacing is much better in this chapter. You speak about how you believe your breaking the characters but I honestly don't think it's too bad. It is definitely noticeable but it helps push the story forward so its alright IMO. Really liking your writing, keep it up!!
Mmmmm, Astro Boy is a good start if he plans to introduce robots in general, but it will take a LOT of investigation to cover some manga genres, like fighting, he will have to invesetigate the martial arts of Equestria AND other countries, though introducing mana, ki, chakras, etc. would be easier, BUT, magic in Equestria makes lots of fantasy mangas less impressive, he will have to create a setting that either is not equestria, equestria after a cataclism or something to get rid of the magic, or setting a manga in other ocuntry, which means, travelling A LOT, man he will spend MORE time investigating than drawing, which may be the easer part XD.

You've brought up a really good point here. He didn't worry about it this chapter, but Kai's going to eventually have to think about how to work out the fight choreographies in pretty much any manga he decides to adapt. Especially for series like Naruto, where hands signs are a crucial part in combat. You'll see him tackle this obstacle really soon.
Well, I've had a couple of ideas. First idea is that Kai could just make the setting based entirely on an Earth Pony society. But that's for sure a controversial decision that would bring a lot of social problems (most of which will be discussed later on). My second idea is that he makes up some sort of psychological phenomenon story that made magic a despised attributes in pony society. Also a bit of a controversial decision, and would definitely be illogical to most ponies (and by that I of course mean Twilight).
But yeah, I'm also trying to figure this out as well. We might get an answer next chapter!

He doesn't necessarily have to travel himself, he can get information from knowledgeable people who have traveled or lived in certain places like Trixie, Starlight's friend called Sunbur or something like that, even through Twilight he could ask Celestia or Luna for anecdotes from the past, who surely know a lot about the history and culture of the world of Equestria.
Zecora to learn about more parts of the world than most characters, among other characters like dragons or reformed changelings, who could give him information and talk about their experiences to give him more information for stories, it wouldn't be as good as his own experiences, but it would help a lot, after all, there is a limit to what a single pony can do.

Is a good start, but not good enough, that is why you see Disney animators and artist going to Hawai for Lilo and Stich, to Europe to make Frozen, or to Peru to make The Emperor's GRoove, and so on, books and tales is not enough, he will make mistakes that will impact readers that are in the know and he will look like an ignorant, kind of what happend to Mulan, which Disney put lots of Japanesse cultural stuff in what is was supposed to be a chineese enviroment, the chinese were really upset with Mulan.
I’m excited to see where this goes! My first thought is that it builds up to him gaining the confidence to create his own worlds to publish but honestly there are so many directions this story can take!

I'd probably go with something like Mob Psycho first. It's full of endearing characters, epic moments, and well written redemption arcs. But most importantly it's relatively short with only 100 chapters. Wouldn't take too long to get the whole story out and get feedback on it

Thinking about, wonder what the reaction from a certain princess would be to Sailor Moon.
I personally felt that Twilight and Spike were decently in character. I could definitely see Spike getting easily distracted from his chores by something as exciting as comics and manga, and I didn't really see anything OOC from Twilight.
I'm also glad to see Kai taking his research seriously and not just jumping headfirst into his first manga-making venture. A lot of similar human protagonists from a lot of much older stories would have done exactly that, so it's refreshing to see an actually intelligent yet still flawed human protagonist in a story like this.
