This story is a sequel to My Little Pony Friendship is Magic What If?: Volume 17
With G5 facing an uncertain future, we once again dive into the still yet to be explored and untapped territory of G4. You know what time it is, time for that series which dares to ask and seeks to answer that fateful question "What if that episode had been written differently?".
Ten episodes are being covered this time around, half of them are from Seasons 1, 4 and 5, including a two parter. And the other half are from Seasons 7 and 9, including a personal replacement for one episode.
It of course goes without saying at this point, but it's worth repeating all the same: The episodes rewritten are based on my personal opinion so please respect it. Don't get offended if an episode you liked is on the list here, or an episode you didn't like isn't on this list. I'll gladly respect your opinions if you respect mine.
As always, no disrespect is intended to Hasbro, the DHX writing and editing staff, or anyone who likes the episodes that appear here. The intent of this fic, just like all of its predecessors, is purely for entertainment purposes only and nothing more.
Given how many volumes of rewrites there are at this point, linking to them all would be impossible. You can check the Also Liked and Similar tabs to find earlier volumes to check if episodes have already been done or redone.
This is volume 18 not 17.
So if Sugar Belle's paired with Party Favor and Big Mac's with Cheerilee, any plan for also redoing The Break Up Break Down too as the only SugarMac episode not redone in this batch? Like, especially for Spike and Discord's roles depending on if that episode has CheeriMac or SugarFavor?

It was actually rewritten in an earlier batch. Giving Ocellus a focus episode, I do recall (changing the perspective was just about the only way the episode COULD be rewritten without making a 22-minute episode out of a problem that could have/should have been solved in THREE minutes).
Again, you did a really good job on the dialogue, characterizations, general wrap-up and future chapter/episode set-up and I see the points you made in the author's notes. And, yes, the Crusaders actually apologizing and Twilight being written out of the episode were good things to add to the episode AND the nod to an earlier rewrite.
On to the next episode/chapter.
Thanks again for getting this rewrite up and doing such a good job on the dialogue, characterizations, general wrap-up and future chapter set-up along with the good points made in the author's notes. Indeed, making the episode a flashback and giving it an actual resolution make a great deal of sense.
On to the next chapter.
Again, you did a good job on the dialogue, characterizations and future chapter/episode set-up, including good points in the author's notes. Definitely appreciated the point about including Spike as well.
On to the next chapter/episode.
Another excellent job on the dialogue, characterizations, general wrap-up and future chapter/episode set-up as well as the points made in the author's notes. I am quite glad to see Spike get some actual use (foreshadowing your spin on the Season Five finale).
Again, on to the next chapter/episode.
Again, a well-done job on the dialogue, characterizations, general wrap-up and future chapter/episode set-up with good points made in the author's notes. REALLY liked the reason Twilight stayed out of the Griffonstone job even with the point out made (not wanting to cause an international incident even if the information she was working with was long out of date). And yeah, we know Gilda will make at least TWO more friends (Gabby and Gallus - the respective Nice and In-Between to Gilda's Mean [though not worse than Jerk with a Heart of Gold]), but that's for later.
On to the next chapter.
Once more, you did an excellent job on the dialogue, characterizations, general wrap-up and future chapter/episode set-up with splendid points made in the author's notes. Definitely liked the logical alterations of making the relationship a Sugar Belle/Party Favor and making the Crusaders mature enough to know love doesn't always work like in fairy tales (even though Equestria is a world that has A LOT of fairy tale elements).
REALLY looking forward to the final four chapters/episodes of this batch.
So if Big Mac is with Cheerilee in this version, are there more CheeriMac moments to compensate? After all, given how he interacts with Cheerilee even less than Sugar Belle (the only interaction they had was in Hearts and Hooves Day, but that was when they were under a love potion and you did say you weren't a fan of SugarMac marrying after just 3 episodes of interaction), wonder if there will even be a wedding at all for The Big Mac Question?
11980615 It's fixed now.
Again, you did a splendid job on the dialogue, characterizations, general wrap-up and future chapter/episode set-up in addition to the notes made in the author's notes. And, yes, it DOES make more sense for Twilight to be the one infected in order to justify her reduced involvement as well as Meadowbrook not thinking she would need to write how she got the cure in more than one place.
REALLY looking forward to more of this.
This was really interesting I've been waiting to see The Cutie Map I had the feeling that since Spike is a dragon and doesn't have a cutie mark Starlight would use him as a hostage to make Twilight and her friends conform to her beliefs.
Hello there. Again, you did a wonderful job on the dialogue, characterizations, general wrap-up and future episode set-up as well as the points made in the author's notes. Yeah, it DOES make more sense to have the group focused on each redecorating a different part of the castle before agreeing to work together. The chats with Twilight both at the beginning of the episode and at the end were also good additions. The full restoration of the Castle of the Two Sisters was absolutely beautiful.
REALLY looking forward to the final two chapters/episodes in this Volume. As well as seeing what you come up with next.
Hello there. Once again, I have to say you did a really good job on the dialogue, characterizations, general wrap-up and future chapter set-up as well as some good points made in the author's notes. Yeah, indeed, it DOES work a lot better as a more in-depth showing of Twilight and Tempest's apologies to Queen Novo as well as a story told to Diamond.
I am certainly going to look forward to more of the final chapter/episode of this volume.
Perhaps the next four volumes could be the "What If? version of the "Equestria Girls" movies (going into each film in much greater detail about certain thing (such as giving the girls' human counterparts more character development and showing their differences as well as their similarities) one film at a time.
Excellent work on the final chapter of this volume. The dialogue, characterizations, general wrap-up and future volume set-up are all wonderfully done. And, of course, you made really good points in the author's notes: I definitely see your points concerning how this works better as a Whole Episode Flashback as well as better reasoning for the mistakes and appropriate apologies.
Possible couple for a later volume:
Triple Threat (redo): Spike actually admits to the scheduling error immediately, correctly trusting Ember and Thorax enough to assume things will work out better if they got to know each other a lot sooner. The bulk of the episode, however, has the ponies, dragons and Changelings loyal to Thorax all working together to solve the problem Thorax came to talk to Spike about: Changelings still loyal to Chrysalis kidnapping and draining victims (since that seems like a good way to make this last for the standard 22 minutes without any of the good guys getting saddled with the Idiot Ball. Plus, it's a good way to make this seem more like a semi-immediate prequel to your redo of "To Change a Changeling" by having Thorax invite Starlight and Spike to visit his Changelings after the main problem is taken care of.
"Shadow Play": A few more reasons that Twilight might want to bring the Pillars back (such as a birthday present for Celestia). Plus, Twilight voicing a respectful and well-reasoned disagreement for Starswirl's "once a villain, always a villain" stuff. Plus, the point-out that nowadays, they've got enough firepower to stop the Pony of Shadows without having to banish anybody as long as they are quick enough about it. Also, Starswirl and Stygian both admitting to and sincerely apologizing for their own mistakes. In addition, some possible foreshadowing for Grogar.
"Frenemies": While Sombra, Chrysalis and the Storm King are working together to get the Bell (and Chrysalis and Sombra both explaining minor bits and pieces of their own backstories [including references to the comics] while doing minor bonding), Grogar finds a way to free the Pony of Shadows and find the entity a new host body to include the Pony of Shadows as part of the Legion.
"The Ending of the End": A proper three-part episode giving all the main characters proper chances to shine and keeping Grogar a legitimate threat without nerfing or dumbing down any of the heroes. With "the Last Problem" being reserved for a 45-minute post-series special showing a few more of the changes to Equestria in addition to greater detail on the changes in the lives of the main characters.
But then, definitely looking forward to the rest of your "What If?" Series.

Any ideas on how the author could also do Equestria Girls as well and do a better job with writing the human versions of Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Rarity, Pinkie, and Fluttershy than canon did?
Wow! The Cutie Mark Crusaders were originally going to get their own spin-off show!?! Well, that's a wild and interesting discovery I have made right there.

Equestria faces its most dire threat yet as Grogar and his legions march upon Canterlot. Meanwhile, Cozy Glow, Chrysalis, and Tirek prepare to betray him and seize power themselves. Can the Mane 6 save Equestria? This fixfic is best fixfic for "The Ending of the End", and nopony can convince me otherwise.

Yeah. I would say it would, at bare minimum, be an extremely good contender for that title. I've at least skimmed it enough to verify that it is extremely good.
