A young griffonness has taken residence atop of the schoolhouse, keeping herself quite secluded from most everyone who attempts to interact with her. Few know why. Fewer know if she's doing okay there. But she has so far resisted any offers of help.
Gillian, after all, is determined to take care of herself.

This is a really good fic!
I Really like fics with happy endings like this one
Like the “It’s going to be okay now” kinda stuff
Very nice story!
eeee griffon story!
and gasp! they aren't human, or anthro, just a normal griffon!?
100% WIN in my book.
That was a very good read. Good luck with the contest!
And sometimes, that's all it needs for a great story to be born.

Not the first time this has ever happened, and it won't be the last, but this IS one of the best!
It's been a while since a story had made me cry, maybe because this one hit closer to home.
Absolutely marvelous story! Sometimes it's nice to have a story that follows some unknown character for a couple days, something or someone that we don't often think about or even know about, but nonetheless gets us hooked by simplicity and premise alone.
Thank you for the story!
I would be interested to see this story continue.
For those intrigued by the Author's Note, here's the otherwise-unnamed griffon's lone appearance in Issue 70:

Nice bit o' crate-digging, Scyphi!
This is really bittersweet. It's great that everything is looking up for Gillian, but being saved because someone had money that you didn't and it was too late for her dad really sours it for me. It hits too close to real world problems of late stage capitalism and class inequality. So many people suffer and lose loved ones because money is more important than lives.
Gillian is lucky, but it just makes me think of everyone that isn't.
This is just my own personal take away from this story, but as a queer person myself this almost feels like a story of desperately hiding in the closet until something or someone drags you out of it. Whatever you interpret of this story, it’s a really good one!
That was a really good story! Due to financial troubles in my own life, I can appreciate Gillian's backstory. The ending almost made me cry.
I do appreciate seeing niche characters getting their moment in the spotlight, especially someone so obscure. Lovely work in making so much from so little. Greta acting as the emissary of a better way is especially nice, showing that Gilda's efforts are being paid forward. Thank you for this, and best of luck in the judging.
Heh. The opposite of Diamond Tiara's family. Nice.

Strange trend on this site of someone giving a vaguely political take and immediately getting downvoted for seemingly no reason.

To be fair, the first one takes a rather downer viewpoint that kinda rains on the story's happier ending, and the second one's takeaway wasn't really the overall intended theme of the story. Neither are invalid points, and indeed both are probably worth discussing in their own time and place...they're just out of place given the general contexts of the here and now of this story and the other comments.
(For the record, no I do not personally have an issue with either comment and did not downvote either one--in the 10+ years I've been on this site, I think I've only downvoted a comment, like, once, and that was an unusual occasion. But playing devil's advocate, I can see how other commenters might see the two comments as...not reading the room, per se, you know what I mean?)
Thank you for writing this. I seek out griffon stories and this one is being added to my nest immediately.
Loved it and want more!
