Everything hurt. Not in the kind of way a wound hurt, but in the kind of way that strenuous activity did. That kind of pain that seeped deep into every muscle. Her head was in a similar state. It thumped quick and hot beats, as if the brain within was struggling to free itself from its bony prison.
Twilight stayed completely still for a long, long moment, wishing this wasn't the world she woke up in.
She could hear voices murmuring from slightly above her. They sounded watery, as if they were stuck in a cloud.
"Is that mare still alive?" A young sounding voice asked, her tone concerned.
"Don't know. Think that if I took a picture, it would make the news?" A much less concerned voice asked.
"I don't know if that is a good idea..."
Something poked her in the side, right where she had fallen on her ribs earlier. Twilight hissed and tried to roll away from the offending object. Her coat felt like it was getting stabbed by metal. "Stop that..."
The thing poked her again. Then again.
Twilight forced her eyes open. She was staring at a cloudless blue sky. Overhead, the sun hung, shining its rays down upon her and warming her coat. Considering she was still lying on a grate; she was probably still on the train. Though, she wasn't moving anymore.
The stick poked her again.
Had she made it to Canterlot? That mare had said it was a straight shot to Canterlot. With the pain she was in, it would be nearly impossible to explore at the moment. Another cast of the numbing spell would be needed-
It poked her again.
"Would you cut that out?" Twilight snapped her gaze towards the offenders.
A filly and a colt were standing slightly above her on a stone platform. The stick they were holding fell to the ground into the space between the railway and the platform.
"Miss, why are you sleeping there?" The filly asked, her eyes wide and full of concern.
"She's a criminal." The other said. "Or maybe- a changeling!"
After confirming her magic reserves had somewhat recharged, Twilight cast the numbing spell. The pain faded from her body, transforming into a dull hum. With a groan, she pulled herself to her hooves. Other than the grid-mark of imprinted lines on her coat from the grate, she was in decent enough condition. Though it might be better to lay off too much magic until she fully recovered.
"I'm not a changeling." Twilight grabbed the edge of the stone platform and tried to pull herself up. Her hooves scrambled for purchase on the stone, and she slowly began to slide into the crevice.
"You're not an athlete either." The colt said.
"Where are your parents?" Twilight rested her head on the stone platform, still recovering from the half daze of sleep. Where had this sassy colt come from?
"They let us do what we want." The colt said a little too quickly. "The name is Cinder. Cinder Cone."
"And I'm Bergy Bit!" The filly said in a nervous voice.
"Wonderful." Twilight said. "I can see why."
The names were a little on the nose.
Cinder had a coat like dark slate, and a mane red as magma. His eyes were the same color. A smug expression was on his face. Bergy, the filly, had a coat the color of blue ice, a phenomenon Twilight had seen often in the deep north. Her eyes were a deep dark blue. Strangely, Bergy radiated a slight aura of elemental ice magic, while Cinder radiated a mix of earth and fire. They were both unicorns.
"Are your parents wizards?" Twilight asked. "Particularly of fire and ice?"
"How did you know? Do you know them?" Bergy's eyes widened.
"Sorry, but no." Twilight said.
Sometimes when magic of a certain type built up within a pony's body, it spilled out into their offspring. It would have profound effects on development, creating unique traits. An example which could be found in a textbook was standing right above her. Whoever their parents were, they were probably powerful magic users.
If only her morals would allow her to study them in depth. Alas, she wasn't going to go that far.
There was a flash. Cinder had taken a picture of her. The camera printed out the photo, which he then showed to her. "Pretty good right?"
"Please, just help me up." Twilight sighed. "Then you can take all the pictures you want."
The two grabbed her hooves, and helped pull her up and over the edge of the platform. With a grunt, she managed to crawl onto her side. Then, she pushed herself to her hooves. Predictably, she was standing on a train arrival and departure platform. The strange thing was there weren't any other ponies in sight.
"Where is everypony?" Twilight asked. This place should have been packed.
"They are at some big dumb celebration." Cinder Cone snapped another photo of her. "It's being hosted by the queens, so everyone is showing up for the parade."
"Queens?" Twilight asked.
"Queen Daybreaker and the beautiful and awesome Queen Nightmare Moon!" Bergy said.
"You're forgetting one."
"She isn't a queen, dummy."
"A princess should still count."
"Princess?" Twilight wondered aloud.
"Princess Heartache." Cinder said. "How do you not know this, are you new here?"
"I have been gone for a long time." Twilight said.
Twilight thought back to that poster. Queen Daybreaker was probably the one with a mane of fire, while Nightmare Moon was probably the one with the sharp teeth. As for Princess Heartache, she didn't have a clue. It wasn't exactly the most pleasant-sounding name. The reveal of this information confirmed that rulership had changed in Equestria. This was monumental. Princess Celestia's reign had been ongoing nearly ever since Equestria was founded, as far as she knew. There had been brief references to a sister, but those had all been from second hoof or inaccurate sources. If Princess Celestia really did have a sister, such information would only be found in the royal archives.
The mention of queens was unnerving as well. Never before had Equestria specifically had queens. It just wasn't done.
"Umm... you there?" Cinder waved his hoof in front of her face.
"Is this Nightmare Moon the same one that eats foals?" Twilight asked, snapping back to reality. Sometimes she forgot she existed.
"Of course not!" Bergy jumped to her hooves in outrage. "Queen Nightmare Moon is the best!"
"Whatever happened to Princess Celestia?"
The two froze, their eyes wide as they stared at her.
"What's wrong?" Twilight asked, a plum of worry forming in her chest.
"You said a bad word." Bergy said. "Queen Nightmare Moon said not to call her sister that anymore. Queen Daybreaker hates it!"
Sister? What?
Arranging the pieces together, Twilight quickly realized that Queen Daybreaker used to be called Celestia, and that Nightmare Moon was somehow her sister.
Just what in Celestia's name had happened? Well, Celestia apparently had changed her name for some reason, so that statement didn't really hold up. Why did she change her name? What exactly happened here? Changelings? Something else?
Twilight looked towards the city.
The first thing she saw were the once-familiar white stone building that were so common in Canterlot. They were well built, crafted by an ancient stone mason of legendary skill. Unfortunately, he never passed down his brick-making technique. The streets were cobbled with flattened stones, and the rooves of the buildings were often tiled, or topped with spirals. However, there were a few new additions. The flags of the new rulers were everywhere.
Then there was the pink. It was a too-bright pink that saturated the entire city. It came in the form of banners hung between buildings, rose petals that littered the streets, and paper hearts stuck to windows. It was as if somepony had redecorated the city in the name of love.
Her attention focused on one particular banner. It hung over the street and had a large heart in the middle. Captured in the heart was a picture of a pink alicorn mare sitting in front of a white coated unicorn stallion. Her attention focused on the stallion. A white coated stallion, with a cutie mark of a shield with a purple star in it. A cutie mark so similar to her own...
Suddenly, it clicked.
"This celebration... would it happen to be a wedding?" Twilight asked.
"Think it was something like that." Cinder Cone shrugged, flipping through his pictures.
"Princess Heartache is marrying Shining Armor!" Bergy nearly shouted. "I wanted to go, but this dummy said it was pointless."
"I'm protecting you from getting trampled in the parade." Cinder said. "Besides, it is boring."
"You-!" Bergy looked absolutely outraged.
Meanwhile, Twilight was staring at the banner. That was clearly Shining Armor. Who was marrying... a princess. A real princess. A princess important enough for all of Canterlot to throw a celebration, with direct support from the new diarchy. Also, it looks like the wedding was already underway.
It suddenly made sense why there was nopony at the platform and only a few in the streets. They were probably all at or near the wedding. Maybe even celebrating in their own homes.
The wedding was already underway...
"The wedding is already underway..." Twilight muttered.
"Yep." Cinder said.
"The wedding is already underway!" Twilight felt a rush of panicked adrenaline flow through her.
"You already said that."
"Where is it taking place?" Twilight asked in desperation.
"At the castle!" Bergy Bit piped up. "They are going to ride right down the middle of Canterlot, then have a big wedding right at the castle!"
"It's not really a wed-"
Twilight took off running. The last she heard of the two foals was Bergy's scream of "Nice to meet you!" which rapidly faded behind her.
"Shining, you fool!" Twilight sprinted into the city she had once called home. "Tell me in the letter if you are marrying a princess!"
Shining Armor marrying a princess? She could still remember his dopey smiles and horribly maintained mane when they went to school together. How had he bagged a princess? How had he bagged a princess named Heartache? The name didn't exactly inspire confidence.
Just how much had she missed of Shining's life? The thought was like a sap to her gut.
Thankfully more than half of her magic had recharged. She must have been asleep for quite some time, at least an entire day and night cycle. Twilight charged up a teleportation spell- straight to Canterlot castle. She remembered it vaguely enough for the spell to work. Yet when she targeted the location, her attention slipped at the last moment. Instead of a castle in her mind's eye, she saw a damp and dark dungeon. A trap?
Snapping the spell back, Twilight slowed to a stop. That sort of slip in attention wasn't her this time. Something in the castle was preventing teleportation, or rather- redirecting it towards another place. A clever defense, and powerful magic. Teleporting into the castle wouldn't work. At least she hadn't teleported into whatever that place was on accident.
"Where to?" Twilight was going to make this wedding. Her time would not be wasted!
Thinking quickly, she imagined the moat outside of the castle. When the mental image remained, she felt comfortable teleporting there. Before she teleported, she snapped an invisibility spell over herself, and then a levitation spell. Then, she zipped away in a flash of magenta light.
She appeared above the water and slowly drifted down towards it. Gently, she rested atop it, lighter than a feather. A ripple radiated from where her hooves touched. The teleport had seemed to be successful for once. There were green reeds and cattails around her, all the signs of a mote. The enormous castle wall was another clear sign. That, and the distant cheers of a crowd in the distance.
Then, she heard something. A honk.
Freezing, Twilight remained as still as possible. She looked over her shoulder, only to see a flock of geese drifting down the moat. They were all white, and their beady black eyes held no emotion. Thankfully luck was on her side, and the nearby flock of geese didn't notice her appearance. They passed by her none the wiser. It was well known that geese were among the most ferocious of castle guardians.
Twilight took this time to think. Shining Armor had to be at the castle, right? If he really was getting married to a princess... which she still didn't entirely believe. How did he manage to snag a princess? The chances of that seemed astronomically low. Though, she hadn't seen him in years. Maybe he had grown out of how she previously imagined him.
A spark of guilt went through her. Those were some mean thoughts.
Squashing it down, she turned back to her mission: getting to the wedding. The massive wall of Canterlot castle was separating her from her goal. The huge gate (which she had always remembered being open) was drawn up and shut. Teleportation to the top was impossible with the current wards in place.
"Curses." Twilight muttered.
The geese floating ahead of her stopped. The lead one, a particularly mean looking goose with a scar above its eye, turned around. It stared at her invisible form. Slowly, the other geese turned around as well.
There was a ping of magical energy from the lead goose. Nearly silent, and almost imperceptible. Before Twilight could guess exactly what it was, the lead goose let out a battle-honk and flapped its wings. It came barreling towards her in a flurry of feathers and wings- a whirlwind of goose fury.
Twilight turned and ran, panic fueling her movements. The thing pecked at the back of her hooves. Its aim was terrifyingly accurate for hitting an invisible target.
"Stop that!" Twilight yelped.
Suddenly remembering she was a wizard- Twilight raised a bubble shield around herself. Purple hexagons fitted into place, completely surrounding her. The flock of geese descended upon her, pecking at her barrier with unrestrained ferocity.
With so many spells running in her head, Twilight couldn't juggle them all. Her invisibility faded.
Her mentor had been correct once more. Geese were not to be trifled with.
Cutting her losses, Twilight teleported to the top of the mote. The geese in the mote stared up at her with cold, emotionless beady black eyes. Shivering, Twilight stepped away from the mote to reevaluate her options.
The castle was impossible to teleport into. Perhaps she could crack the spell, but it would take some time... time that she didn't have. Straight up flight was beyond her though it was theoretically possible- if the spell existed, she had not unearthed it yet. A thousand possible options passed through her mind as Twilight stalked the alleyways just beyond the castle gate. Two guards stood on the cobbles in front of the gate, but beyond the mote.
There was always that roaring crowd, but there was always the possibility that the wedding was already taking place inside the castle. This was not something she could afford to miss. Besides, she would rather take any options besides the massive crowd.
Then, she remembered something. Twilight withdrew the letter from Shining Armor. Maybe this could get her in.
Hesitantly, Twilight approached the two guards.
"Halt." One of the guards said. "State your business."
"I'm here for the wedding." Twilight said.
"The parade has already concluded. You had your chance to see the bride and groom." The guard said. "The rest of the ceremony will take place inside. Begone."
"Wait. Please, take a look at this letter. It's from Shining Armor himself, I'm his sister!" Twilight extended the letter towards him.
The guard eyed the letter, then glanced over at his partner who shrugged in response.
After a moment, the guard ripped the letter out of her hooves. He skimmed through it quickly, then glanced back up at her.
"You can't be serious." The guard chuckled.
Twilight's heart stilled. This was the only easy way in left for her. If it came down to it, she would need to find another way in. Maybe she could jump off a tower and try to glide in with levitation.
"Is your name Twilight Sparkle?" The guard asked.
"...Yes." Twilight asked. "How did you know that?"
"He talks about you all the time." The guard extended one of the magical measuring rings towards her. "Here, put this on."
Twilight slipped the ring over her head. It began to glow brightly, shining bright like a mini star. The guard turned their gazes away from it, squinting.
"You can take it off now!" The guard shouted.
Twilight removed the ring.
"Well, it's clear you're not a changeling with magic like that." The guard said. "Right after the ceremony I will confirm with Shining Armor and then we can let you in."
"But I have to make the ceremony now!" Twilight said.
"Sorry. There's nothing more I can do." The guard said. "I am under strict orders to not let anypony into the castle until after the ceremony. Somepony was trying to get into the castle earlier."
Twilight remembered that magical ping from the geese. That must have been some sort of warning.
"...Alright." Twilight took her letter back. Then, she turned around. "Tell Shining Armor I tried to make it."
She was already eyeing the rooves of the nearby buildings. None of them seemed high enough to jump off and glide into the castle from. Panic was already beginning to set in. Surely there had to be some solution she wasn't thinking of. Trying to piece ideas together, Twilight stalked off with her head low.
But a voice stopped her.
"Wait. You aren't leaving, are you?" The guard asked.
"I'm going home." Twilight sighed. She was still deciding if she really wanted to break into the castle or not. If she was caught, who knows what punishment she would face? And yet... the thought of coming all this way and not meeting her family left a hollow feeling in her gut.
"Where would home be?"
"My tower at the edge of the world." Twilight said.
The guards glanced at each other. Then, they started whispering beneath their breath. Twilight watched them, wondering what exactly they were talking about.
Finally, after a long moment of looking her up and down and intense hesitation, the front guard spoke. "I'm going to let you in."
"Why?" Twilight felt a spark of hope reignite in her chest.
"Because... it's the right thing to do." The guard hesitated for another moment. Then, he chuckled. "Also, Shining Armor would have my head if I didn't let his long-lost sister in."
Meanwhile, the other guard was looking away, muttering beneath his breath. He didn't look happy at all.
"Thank you so much!" Twilight perked back up. Maybe this was destined after all.
"Open the gates!" The guard yelled.
A head peeked up over the wall. Then, a couple minutes later, something began to creak. The massive gates slowly began to open.
Twilight adjusted her hat and prepared to enter. "Thank you once again. What is your name?"
"I'm just a guard. Don't worry about me." The guard said.
"Surely you have a name?" Twilight asked.
"It's Grant." The other guard said.
"We promised not to talk about my name." Grant nudged his partner.
The gate finished opening. Meanwhile, Twilight was just confused.
"You can head on in." The other guard said.
"Wait." Grant grabbed her before she could move in.
"Yes?" Twilight stared at the hoof grabbing her.
"I'm only telling you this because I'm the best guard there ever was." Grant glanced over his shoulder at the wall before continuing. "Once you attend the ceremony, go back home."
"Why?"
"...Just trust me. You don't want to get into Heartache's sights. She has a problem with letting go of family." Grant's tone was darker than normal, bleak even. She met his eyes. They were filled with worry.
Once again, the other guard was looking the other way.
"I'll keep that in mind." Twilight said, still not quite understanding. Why was she included in Heartache's family? She was just Shining Armor's sister. Surely Heartache wouldn't care that much about her.
"Go on in then." Grant let go of her. His normal, slightly upbeat tone had reappeared.
"So much for being the guardliest guard." The other guard muttered.
"Sometimes we must forsake out duties for the sake of good."
"I'm not sure that's how that works..."
The conversation faded behind her as Twilight strode into the castle. Guards patrolling the wall watched her as she entered. Twilight tried to keep calm, hyper aware of every set of eyes on her. When she finally crossed the gate, it immediately began to rise behind her.
"Here for the ceremony?" A guard walked up to her. His face was stony, a stark contrast to the two guards outside.
"Yes." Twilight glanced around uneasily.
"I'll lead the way."
Twilight followed him through an initial garden area until they reached the front door of the castle. Immediately after entering, Twilight was witness to a ridiculously long hallway covered with red carpet. Depictions of suns, moons, and eclipses hung from the walls. There were no places for seating, just long and empty hallways adorned with golden and silver chandeliers. Everything was immaculately polished, as if it had been magically sterilized within the last hour. It gave off an empty feeling, like it wasn't even meant to be lived in.
The desire to run off and start exploring every door was strong, but Twilight followed closely behind the guard. Now that she was so close, she couldn't get distracted. Although, somewhere within these rooms was the royal archives. It was practically mouthwatering to think about all that untapped knowledge...
They passed by empty hallway after empty hallway. Scattered guards lined a few certain doors, but for what reason Twilight couldn't tell. She detected faint magical pings from the ceiling but looking up she couldn't see a thing. Just smooth white stone and high-arced ceilings. Her coat prickled. The longer she walked- the more she felt like she was being watched.
It was deathly quiet. Each step sounded painfully loud in this place. It was so quiet in fact, that Twilight could hear her own breathing, as well as the guard's. A stark contrast to the faint roar of the crowd that could be heard outside.
She had always imagined the castle being more... lively. It had just seemed like a warm and inviting place. Apparently, it wasn't.
"It's just up ahead." The guard said, his voice breaking the silence and nearly sending Twilight flying out of her coat.
"Ok." Twilight felt a bead of nervousness form.
What would Shining Armor say when he finally saw her again? What about her parents, would they be there? Not to mention Heartache, the pony her brother was marrying. Would Heartache like her? Did she want somepony named Heartache to like her? Ultimately, it probably didn't matter since Twilight didn't plan on staying long, but she couldn't help but worry.
Then, Twilight heard something. Somepony was speaking up ahead from behind a closed double door. The voice was too muffled to make out what they were saying.
"Here it is." The guard said. "Need anything else?"
"I think I'll be fine." Twilight muttered. "Thank you."
With a nod, the guard left, leaving Twilight alone.
Twilight faced the door and took a moment to calm herself. After three deep breaths, she approached it. She set her hoof on the fine wood, feeling like she was tarnishing it with her dirty hooves. Coughing in embarrassment, she cast a spell to clean herself off. Once she was clean enough, she set hoof on the door again.
Then, she started to push. It didn't budge. Grunting, she started to push again. The door was extremely heavy.
Slowly, it began to open. Once free of its initial lock, it started to slowly swing open on its own. Then, to Twilight's horror, it began to creak. It wasn't a small creak, like stepping on a stairway at night, it was the kind of creak that came from a massive castle double door to a grand hall. She tugged on it, trying to stop its momentum, but it had already grown beyond her strength.
She tried to grab it with magic, only for her spell to somehow slip off the door. A powerful warding enchantment was inlaid upon it, along with every stone in the castle. It would take time to analyze them enough to break through the wards. Maybe if she pumped in more magic then she could-
The door creaked open more. Twilight could only watch.
Painfully slow, the door opened with a silence shattering creak. The speech inside the room stopped. Just before the crowd within laid eyes upon her, Twilight snapped an invisibility spell over herself and faded from view.
Heart thundering in her chest, Twilight stood in the middle of the doorway as it opened in its entirety. The eyes of a massive crowd of well-dressed noble ponies watched the doors open. Confused expressions adorned their faces. Beyond them, at the far end of the hall, a massive pink alicorn with a white-coated pony nearly half her size had stopped entirely. All she caught was a furious expression on the alicorns face, but Twilight was in too much of a rush to get a proper look.
Silently, Twilight skirted out of the doorway and fled into the crowd standing near the back of the room.
The door completed its opening arc with a resounding slam as it impacted the castle wall. Twilight could only wince at the disrupting noise.
There was complete silence. Hushed conversations filled the room.
They... they really needed to oil that door.
"Will somepony please close that door!?" A powerful voice boomed out, echoing in the chamber. "Must I command you to do everything?!"
Her words ended with such authority that Twilight was tempted to close the door herself.
A guard standing just inside the door silently started to close it. Once again, it began to creak, completing its painful arc all the way back to a resting position. When it finally reached it, it slammed shut with another boom. Twilight winced again, resisted the urge to cry, and buried her head in her hooves on the floor.
"You can continue." The powerful voice boomed out again in the chamber, tinged heavily with irritation.
"R-Right." Someone cleared their throat before starting to speak again. "Now, as the marriage of an alicorn is a first in Equestria, we will be celebrating..."
Twilight shuffled to the back of the crowd and slipped out of invisibility. With a sigh, she collected herself. That could have gone better, but she had made it. Despite everything, she had made it to the wedding. She allowed herself to relax a little, before curiosity kicked in once again.
She still had to make sure this was the right wedding.
Twilight looked up towards the stage.
Her gaze locked onto the white coated pony next to the pink alicorn, who must be Princess Heartache. For a moment, Twilight just stared, stunned into silence.
That face was one she vaguely remembered, like a rune she had carved a thousand times long ago. A past she had forgotten, and a foal-hood she had traded away in the pursuit of magic. Memories of playing with a vague form slowly solidified in her mind, reborn from ashes that had always remained at the edges of her mind.
She couldn't quite believe it, but if her vision was not betraying her...
That really was her brother, Shining Armor.
Really enjoying this story so far and impressed at the rate you are updating. Just dont burn yourself out.
Looking forward to seeing what the personalities of the 3 alicorns and Shining Armor will be like.

Just what that guard said to Twilight about leaving as soon as possible when the wedding is over ... that says a lot about Heartache.
Oooooooobaaaaaaaaaaaa
Oooooooobaaaaaaaaaaaa
👀🍿
It might be a story reason for why this did not happen but it seems a little odd as soon as she said her name and sold them the note they did not immediately take her to the wedding assuming Signing Armor was still captain of the guard I am 100% sure that he would have told the other guards to let his sister in if he came. But what's made even weirder and heartbreaker is his obsession with signing armor. See what not already know? He wrote that letter. Being honest this leads me to ask another question I just thought of how in the hell did one of the half of the Fleming flam Brothers even find Twilight.
Interesting. So, I'm guessing this story is running with the idea that the evil personalities of the alicorns are super sized?
Yah, Twilight, you best e very, very careful because something tells me that you'd have an extremely hard time overpowering Heartache (especially since she seems to be a sort of yandere in this world. Good luck! Cause we know you don't have it
)
Anyways, author, if you see this comment, I just want to wish you a good day. Your story's pretty fun so far and I'm intrigued to see what you have planned.
I have to question if this version of Twi would attempt the sunshine dance. I’m pretty sure social awkwardness wouldn’t stop her from doing it in front of a room full of people, but she seems the type to have let go of most sentiment.
This feels more... obsessive, than romantic
And she is still not fully recovered
Ahhh, yeah, that's definitely concerning
I got the feeling that if Twilight is spottet by any of the Alicons, she will have to fight if she wants to leave again, for the with how the Guards talk about Heartache, the it does not seem like it was Shining Armour who send the latter. For if she does not let family go the she would also want Twilight, and all after what he has said about Twilight, Day, and Night would also want Twilight around for High level mages are useful, and they probably also want to find the wielder of magic.
Edit.
That is if she can even go home after dropping her home into a frozen lake.
I guess ice towers could technically be considered crystal sorcery. Good thing Twilight didn't go hollow in her crystal castle
YES!!! ANOTHER CHAPTER!!! I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE MORE!!!!
Finally, a government that's honest with itself! no more "princesses", its actually got queens now! actual positions of leadership that clearly defines who makes the rules and whose second in command!

Yea i get that feeling too. Her challenge won't be introducing herself, but rather hiding the amazing stuff she's done from the alicorns. I.E. don't show them your bar of arcanite at all costs. Otherwise they'll demand that a powerful magician like twilight should be the royal mage, and then she'll have no time to study... perhaps they'll put her on a linear rail straight to Alicornhood too if they're that interested. which takes away valuable time from doing magic!!!

Aye, and I do not recall if Twilight got her Cutie Mark, but if she does and it's seen by the wrong person or Alicorn, she is not leaving for having Magic itself as her mark would mark her as someone to keep a eye on. For there is no way they will let a Unicorn who can control the elements Leave.

Personally, I too think that it was Heartache, not Shining Armor, that sent the letter.
I also think that Twilight will have to fight her way out of Canterlot after the wedding is over.
12148980
Aye, that is what I meant in my first comment. Like I would not be surprise if Twilight has already been spotted by Heartache, for she first yell about the door after Twilight had moved in, and she is a Alicorn, so she was probably able to feel Twilight.

I personally figure that the three of them are going to be different varieties of hyper controlling dictators. But that pretty vague.
Nightmare Moon is the easiest Alicorn to guess at as she's the only one in the show we got to see. I'm imagining her rule to be an artistic diva with god complex. I could see her making a national weekly holiday where every single citizen of Equestria is required to go out at night and admire the night she created. Nightmare Moon might also be the most outwardly charitable of the three alicorns if Cinder having a great impression of her is anything to go by. I could totally see Nightmare continue with her dream guarding duties, not because she views it as her duty but because of how much she craves the adoration of the ponies she helps. Most of Nightmare Moons actions from that perspective are in service of gaining more of that praise. She might even have the best public opinion of the three rulers from all the charity work she doing.
Daybreaker on the other hand is weird. We never really got any good view of what a corrupted Celestia would be like from the show, and no the one from the show does not count it was literally just a figment of Starlight Glimmers imagination. I would imagine Daybreaker would lead into the tyrantlestia memes, with her going full 1984 police state on the country. The spies of Daybreaker have probably become a constant source of paranoia for the population, guilty or innocent. I do wonder what the children meant by Daybreakers old name being something she hates. So many questions.
Heartache is probably the easiest person to guess. Heartache is pretty obviously a turbo yandere whose obsesses over her loved ones. Interestingly enough she does seem to be more of general loved ones Yandere rather than purely for her husband to be. That does bring to mind who exactly Heartbreak considers to be a part of her family though. Shining Armor his parents and Twilight are pretty obvious examples, but Daybreaker and via blood connection via her sister Nightmare Moon would also be parts of the family. Other than them the only other family members I could think of are Cadences parents who originally adopted her. The comment from the guard makes me think as well that Heartbreaker drags her family everywhere she goes, possibly out of some paranoid sense of protective instinct with the changelings apparently attacking Equestria at some point. Chrysalis probably pulled her NTR strategy on Cadence and it backfired horribly.
I do have to wonder how exactly Heartache treats the general population of Equetria. My personal guess that it ranges from not even fully viewing them as people too barely contained suspicion. Maybe Twilight and Heartache are walking down a street when they reach a puddle. A normal person's response would be just to either jump over it, walk around it, or just teleport through it entirely. Without even pausing her conversation with Twilight, Heartache instead violently grabs one of the ponies from the nearby crowd and slams them into the puddle, making a bridge. Heartache doesn't even have any particular malice towards this pony, it's just that unless their apart of Heartaches group of loved ones she just doesn't really see them as people. Just bodies that can occasionally be put to use. Some of them are just most useful as a method of keeping her beloved little sisters hooves dry.
This is shockingly underrated, I absolutely love this depiction of Twilight! And all the little details scattered throughout the story so far give this universe a shocking amount of life- like, of course Big Hat warned Twilight about the geese, and if course she's teleported into the same exact scenario before, lol.
This is fucking fantastic, and I want to see Twilly conquer Canterlot Castle in the name of B O O K
I like Twilight's POV in this and the worldbuilding so far. Looking forward to seeing where the story is going to go.
I hope that new chapter will come soon and I hope that you are doing great!

The sunshine dance is a tradition Twilight had with Cadance, but I don't think this AU!Twilight was ever foalsat by Cadance.

I don't know what happened to the author of this story (I hope nothing bad), but I still hold out hope for an update.
