Dawn Patrol (n): a reconnaissance flight made in the early morning
—Merriam-Webster

There's nothing quite like watching the world wake up, and a pre-dawn flight accomplishes that.

What a lovely start to the day! And I need to catch up on messages and such.

That was a nice Story and interesting Detail too

Ah doing that type of road work at night. I wish they would do it around me then.

A very nice slice of life story, and probably something a lot of people need right now. Thanks!

he waved just the same since it seemed the friendly thing to do

"Say hi to your folks for me."

...it puzzled him how the cornfields were worked. The plants were so close together he doubted he could walk a row without knocking down stalks, and human farm machines were huge ; it seemed that their wheels would inevitably leave trails of crushed corn stalks in their wake, and yet he didn’t see the evidence below him.

For harvesting, it's basically just a big attachment, but wait until he sees some of the funny-looking tractors that they use for spraying the corn... :derpytongue2:

I hear you. We had those big guys come over to our place this weekend to do our fields. It’s so nice to get them sprayed in an hour or two instead of a week.

What a lovely start to the day!

I figured this one warranted an early post time (for Americans, anyway)

And I need to catch up on messages and such.

It's hit or miss here in Michigan. They do do some nighttime maintenance to cut down on traffic delays, but of course there's plenty of stuff where you can't do that (bridge replacement, for example). The inspiration for this part was day maintenance, but they did get started early, and it's not a highly-trafficked road.

For the small town I live in, we've had a surprising amount of construction lately; we've had new internet installed through town, new gas lines, and also road maintenance. There have also been two new businesses built this year . . . traffic cones everywhere.

Yeah, and I posted it without knowing what the news of the day was gonna be . . .

A nice, calm, pleasant story is what we need.

Imagine there's somebody on the plane with a pair of binoculars looking down at the right place to see him giving them a friendly wave. I honestly don't know if that would be heartwarming or vaguely terrifying.

I feel like there are parts of modern agriculture that would still be familiar to ponies (although on a bigger machine scale than they're familiar with) and then there would be other stuff that would completely baffle them.

I remember very well the first time some of my city friends saw a Terra-Gator. At night, cruising along the road towards its next field.

One of the local farmers was spraying his fields just this week; on a couple of test drives I saw a semi truck with some big tanks on flatbed trailers, and once there was a thin-wheeled tall sprayer machine refilling at the truck.

We've also got a few local fields that get cropdusted by a plane; one of the ones that gets done has the plane turning around near the shop where I work, and that's always fun to watch. Haven't seen him this year, maybe they're growing something else this year.

Ouch. My hometown is adding a new major road near me starting next Spring. It will be welcomed as it will finally reconnect two different roads but they are adding a roundabout on a country highway where speeds are 55 mph. The idiots who do the roads in my county love putting roundabouts in the worse spots.

OOOh! An Admiral Biscuit story! I listened to Life's Highway by Steve Wariner while reading it. It was appropriate even though it was a flight not a drive. Highway is how you get there, and it can be anything I suppose from a plane, train or automobile. Good flying with you Orange Cream. Thank you.

Its a great day for ponies irl!

I do not know how, but I missed the notification.

This is a nice story. It is all show with no tell. It has no dialogue. It has only 1 character. It reminds me about Lost Cities, which has only 2 characters, much description and no dialogue.

I don't remember which country you hail from (if you ever told me) but here in Michigan at least we're still figuring out roundabouts. Sometimes they work okay, other times they make a very tight circle and toss in a couple of speed bumps as well and there are generally tire tracks across the decorative plantings in the middle.

Airplane routes are sometimes considered highways in the sky, so I'd say it's close enough.

A good morning for a pegasus pony.

Every day is a good day for ponies IRL

I do not know how, but I missed the notification.

FimFic notifications are not always on point.

Sometimes a story isn't about dialogue or major events or anything else; sometimes they're just about a person or a pony having a good day, and those are the stories I love.

Lovely start of the day, really like all the little bits and pieces that make up the trip.

Thank you!

It's the little bits that really make the trip; it's not as fun if you're just trying to get to the end.
