It was a normal day once again in Equestria, everything was going really fine around Ponyville, and the School of Friendship, most people were going about they're day just fine, nothing too big to talk about. There hasn't been any major problems recently that should be concerning.
As the camera pans into the sky, we see two familiar dragons flying through it, and trying to keep up with one another. And that was Spike and Smolder. They were currently flying through the skies and were trying to help Spike get a better hang of his wings which he recently had grown.
They flew down through the forest and were trying to avoid any oncoming tree that could harm them.
"Keep those wings bent Spike! Don't let the winds force you back!" Smolder advised as they were trying to avoid hitting anything in their way.
"Got it! I think I'm almost there!" Spike replied while he was spinning himself around some trees and he kept on flying through them to avoid being harmed.
Spike kept flying through the forest as fast as he could, making sure to avoid being hit by any obstacle coming his way, Smolder was flying right besides him, and she shot a few fire blasts at anything that almost harmed them.
"There! Let's stop at this pond for now Spike!" Smolder announced as there was a large pond in the forest that they could rest at. Spike quickly flew down next to her and they both landed on the ground swiftly, Spike sighed in relief and felt glad to be able to get the hang of his wings, it felt so great to finally be able to have them, and it felt so cool to use it.
"Man, that was really tiring, but it was also fun. Thanks for helping me learn to fly better Smolder, it's really great to be able to fly properly now." Spike said gratefully while he stretched them out a bit.
"No problem Spike, sure beats you repeatedly slamming into stuff like before right? All it takes is to keep them bent down, dragon wings and pony wings are different with how they work to fly. And this is dragon 101 for anyone who gets wings at this age." Smolder replied which made Spike chuckle a bit.
"Yeah, that's true, I couldn't even keep them closed properly before, at least I know how Twilight felt when she got hers." Spike replied as he sat down near the pond to think to himself.
Spike had a lot on his mind recently after he got his wings, despite how great it felt to finally have them, it just told him how much older he was getting. And yet, despite how much he's had thanks to Twilight and everyone else, there's still been a question he's had in his mind deep down, one that's been with him for a really long time..
Smolder took a closer look at Spike's expression, and she saw something was wrong with him, she's seen it before in her friends, and it's no different for him.
"Hey Spike, you doing alright?" Smolder asked while she sat down next to him near the pond.
"Yeah.. I'm fine, it's just.. to know that I've gone this far into my life by now, and finally growing wings. It's shown me just how long time has passed since I was hatched by Twilight, all we've been through together, and all she and the mane 6 have gone through, knowing how much time has passed, it makes me just think over things I.. haven't really talked about with the others before.." Spike admitted which was giving Smolder more concern.
"Really? What do you mean.. you were hatched by Twilight?" Smolder asked as she wasn't informed of this before which made Spike realize that suddenly, and how important that may be for her to know.
"Right.. you haven't been told it yet, to make things simple, I was hatched by Twilight when I was an egg, my egg was said to be found by Celestia somewhere by itself, the answer was never given. And she had Twilight try to find a way to hatch me, despite the circumstances of what she had, she was able to hatch me with her magic, and it's the reason I'm even here today.." Spike admitted which made Smolder have a look of surprise being told that.
"Wait.. your saying your egg was left alone? That.. that shouldn't be possible. No dragon abandons they're eggs like that, even if there's a reason, they shouldn't just leave it alone, if there were any problem that forced the parent to have to leave it, they'd at least give it to a proper dragon who could raise it when it hatches." Smolder pointed out with a bit of an upset look.
"Yeah.. but even if that were true.. to know I was left alone.. without proper reason.. it's.. a question I've had in my mind for so long.. and no matter how long I've questioned it, I've.. never properly known who my parents were.. even with being raised by Twilight.. I've.. always wondered who they were.." Spike answered with a sad look while he looked at his own reflection.
Smolder felt really bad to know that, despite her concerns on how Spike's egg was acquired still being in her mind, to know he went through almost his whole life up to this point, without ever meeting his mother or father, it really makes her wish there was any sign they could have to find them.
"I'm.. really sorry to hear that Spike, but to let you know, we all have it rough in our lives. Sometimes there's a question we won't have answered, but eventually, we just have to move on with our lives. Your a good dragon Spike, even when you were raised by Twilight, your one of the better dragons I've known next to my brother, and let me tell you, there aren't that many kind dragons out there when I lived in the Dragon Lands." Smolder assured while they both kicked back to think over this.
"Thanks Smolder, it's just hard to accept the fact I've never known my mother, or father. I don't even know if they really even loved me.. and if they didn't.. why did they even have me? Is there.. something wrong with me Smolder?" Spike asked while he looked at himself.
"Don't think about yourself like that, there's nothing wrong with you. While you may be short and weak to some dragons, to me, your a kind person who looks out for others. I'm sure if your parents ever met you, they'd be glad to have you as their son, even if they had a reason to leave you alone." Smolder assured while she patted Spike's shoulder.
Spike sighed sadly hearing that, and knew that despite all he's questioned about himself, sometimes it's best he should just move on from it.
"Your right, I think I was just overthinking things.." Spike thanked while Smolder was starting to stand back up.
"It's alright Spike, I'm sure things will get better though. You ready to head back to Twilight's now? I'm sure she's eager to know what you've learned with flying by now?" Smolder asked which was probably true.
"Yeah, that sounds good, let's get going then.." Spike replied as he was getting up too and they were about to head back.
But just before the two of them could leave, they suddenly heard a loud roar that could be heard through the whole forest, they could see some birds flying away from a certain spot with fear, and that was something that scared them both.
"W.. what was that?!" Spike asked with fear on what that sound was.
"I don't know, but it may be trouble, we should check it out Spike!" Smolder quickly replied while she was already flying to where the sound came from.
"Wait! Hold on! Shouldn't we get Twilight and the others? This could be dangerous!" Spike warned while he was trying to keep up with her.
"I know, but that's why we should see what it is at least, let's just stay close to eachother, and make sure not to be spotted by this thing, alright?" Smolder asked which made Spike gulp in fear from hearing it.
"Okay then.." Spike said nervously as they flew closer to where they heard the loud roar just a few seconds ago.
Spike and Smolder flew through the forest as quickly as they could, that roar came from just a couple miles away, and they could see it lead to a large open area in the forest too, Spike and Smolder quickly landed in the trees, trying to hide themselves from what made that sound.
Smolder made a quiet gesture with her claws, and Spike quietly nodded back in response. They both turned to peak through the leaves to see what that sound was, and to their shock, they found an entire pack of Timberwolves down in the middle of an open area, there was over 20 of them, and they were all down and badly beaten up.
"Whoa.. what happened here?" Spike whispered to Smolder who didn't know how to respond.
"I don't know.. but whoever did this.. they're strong.." Smolder whispered back while they kept hiding the best they could.
But as they tried to hide, they could hear another roar come from just nearby, as well as the sound of heavy footsteps, Spike and Smolder both gulped and made sure they wouldn't be seen by whatever this creature was. And as the steps got heavier and shook the ground, they suddenly saw another Timberwolf be thrown out of the darkness extremely roughly, it was so fast, it was able to hit the very tree they were hiding in, and the impact was rough enough to make them lose they're balance.
"Oh man!" Spike screamed as they both fell down on the ground after the tree collapsed from the impact.
Both of them groaned while they tried getting back up, but they quickly regained focus once they saw another Timberwolf right next to them, but thankfully this one was beaten down just like all the others. And they were concerned on what caused this.
"W.. what happened to these guys?" Spike asked with worry for what's happened to them.
"I don't know.. but I have a feeling we're about to find out.." Smolder said nervously as they could hear heavy footsteps coming from the bushes.
They both got closer together and kept they're guard up for whatever's coming out of them. But as the footsteps were slowing down, they could finally see what was coming out, but to their surprise.. the creature that took all these Timberwolves down wasn't that scary as they thought it was. While this figure was wearing a hood to hide it's face, it was pretty tall and looked slender, yet showed a good amount of muscle under it, the figure was almost as tall as Celestia. But what they did notice about this creature, is that it looked like.. a dragon..
"Um.. who.. who are you?" Smolder asked the figure who didn't notice them yet, it was so busy with those Timberwolves, it probably didn't realize it may have caught the attention of others.
The figure looked a bit surprised seeing two other dragons here, and it began to spoke in a soft tone while it calmed down.
"Forgive me, I didn't mean to cause a huge ruckus here, I was just.. going somewhere to find something important to me, those creatures ambushed me when I was minding my own business, and they needed to be taught a lesson for it.." The figure said with a growl, but what was weird, is that the voice sounded female.. and there was something about her to Spike, that felt.. familiar?
Spike and Smolder looked at eachother with surprise hearing this from her, even though they don't know who this person is, if she has a reason to be here, maybe they can find out why.
"It's.. alright I guess, we can understand it, these guys can be a lot of trouble when in packs, but.. how did you manage to fight them all off like that?" Smolder asked with surprise for her skill.
The figure only scoffed a bit and pushed aside the wolves while she walked to them, clearly not bothered by the amount there were.
"I've had many years to train myself up after an.. incident happened so long ago. I barely broke a sweat when fighting all these things, and even if there were 50 of them, I wouldn't have much trouble with them at all." The figure said with a prideful tone.
This did confuse Spike a bit since it isn't normal for any dragon to just come here, even with her wearing a hood that they covers her body, with the features they see like the long tail, and wings on her back, it's easy for them to tell. But why this person was here is the real question he wanted to ask.
"Um.. alright then.. but.. why are you here? I don't think most dragons can come here without a specific reason, is there something your looking for?" Spike asked which got the figure to turn to him.
"Yes, it's for something.. very.. important..." She said right before she noticed something familiar about Spike. The figure suddenly had a look of shock the closer she looked at him, and the more she stayed silent, the more concerned Spike and Smolder were getting.
"Um.. Ma'am? Are you.. alright?" Smolder asked as the figure wasn't saying anything, she was in complete shock of seeing Spike, there was a special reason she came here searching for him, and to know he's really here and.. almost fully grown shook her heart..
"Is it.. really you..?" The figure asked with shock which confused Spike hearing it.
"Uh.. I don't really know.. have we.. met before?" Spike asked in a confused tone which made her remember something important.
"Right.. you wouldn't recognize me.. you were only.. an egg when I last had you..." The figure said softly which surprised them both to even be told that.
"W.. what do you mean by that? How.. would you even know what my egg looked.. like..." Spike asked before they both realized something important, something that could be the only reason she would be able to know that.
"No way.. are.. you?" Smolder asked while pointing at her a bit, the figure sighed softly and knew what she had to do, and with that one sentence, the figure slowly went to her hood and pulled it up for them to see her fully, and when they did, they both gasped with huge shock seeing her full looks.
She looked almost exactly like Spike with her appearance, she had a much darker shade of purple scales, a sharp light green spine and underbelly, she had clear battle scars from former fights she's gotten into, and she had emerald green eyes that were exactly like Spike's. Spike and Smolder were in complete shock of seeing her, because after all this time.. Spike's finally met her..
"Are.. Are you... my.." Spike asked as he couldn't even finish that question. The dragon only looked down at him with tears seeing him fully, they looked exactly alike, it was clear as day, she looked so sad, yet so happy seeing him after who knows how long. She only came down to her knees and looked at Spike even closer, trying to make sure this is real, and not a dream.
"It.. really is you.. my.. my precious.. child..." She said with tears before she suddenly grabbed him and pulled him to her chest so she could hug him tightly. She held him so tightly to the point she didn't wanna let go of him, she was crying heavily over finally being able to find what she's lost for so long, even Spike was in tears seeing this, after all this time.. his.. mother is still alive..
"It's.. really you.. your.. my mother?" Spike asked with a look of hope while she looked down at him and was taking in every second of this moment she had.
"Yes.. it's really me my child.. I'm your mother.. I know your my child.. I can feel it.." She answered with pure honesty which made Spike only cry even more from it.
"It's.. really you.. mother.. your really here.." Spike said with both sadness, and joy from finally being able to meet her, even if they don't know fully about how she lost Spike's egg in the first place, a simple answer like this, to know if she's even alive it all, it gave Spike such joy and relief he hasn't felt for so long..
Smolder had stepped aside to let the two of them process this, even she couldn't hold back some tears to see this, she hasn't felt proper affection from her real parents in a long time, since she got her wings, she was mainly on her own with her brother to be the only one to support him. But here, seeing how much Spike's mother really does still care for him even after this, it made her feel so relieved to know she's still alive, and was searching for him after all.
After a few more minutes of hugging, Spike was finally let go a little and was put down, the dragon looked so happy to finally have found him again, and she was taking heavy breaths from all of this happening so fast.
"M.. mother.. may I ask.. what's your name?" Spike asked hoping to know what she was called.
"Of course my.. son.. my name is.. Crystal, and I can't believe I've finally found you.. my little Emerald..." Crystal introduced while she was still crying from seeing him in front of her.
"Emerald.. was that meant to be.. my birth name..?" Spike asked curious if that was the case.
"Yes.. it was something your... father suggested to me when we had you.. and it was the best name he could've come up with.." Crystal said with a wholesome look which only made Spike cry a bit more hearing that.
"If.. that's the case.. what.. happened to my father.. why did I.. end up alone?" Spike asked with hope there was a good reason for it. But Crystal was starting to look really tired after being asked that, she must've had a lack of sleep when trying to search for him.
"Your father.. oh my sweet child.. I'm so sorry.. he's.. he's... gone..." Crystal said with tears before she suddenly passed out from all she had to process. This surprised them both and they quickly went to check on her to see if she's okay.
"Mother? Are you alright?! Please answer me!" Spike begged while she tried waking her up, but she was out cold from passing out, and it may have been from the huge fight she had to handle just a few moments ago.
"Hey easy there Spike, she probably was tired from all the traveling, and fighting she just had to do. She probably just needs some rest.." Smolder assured while Spike was breathing heavily over what he's just processed.
"What.. what did she mean when she said my father was.. gone? Is there.. really a good reason for why I was left alone? What.. happened with her?" Spike asked with tears while he tried helping her again, Smolder sighed sadly hearing that, despite how much she wanted answers too, this.. Crystal was really exhausted, and they need to help her recover in order to get answers.
"I don't know, but I'm sure what she's said with finding you, I think it's a good reason. But she needs help recovering, let's take her back to Twilight's and get the others, I'm sure we all would like to know what exactly happened with you." Smolder suggested which Spike thought was a good idea, she clearly needs help after all she's had to do to find him.
"Right.. come on.. let's get her back home, think you can help me with carrying her back?" Spike asked while he tried picking up Crystal's body, she was really heavy with how large she was, and it didn't help with how small Spike was right now.
"No problem Spike, come on, let's get her back to the castle, I'm sure it'll be better once we know the full story from her." Smolder assured while she picked up her body too, it was easier to carry her together, and they both raised they're wings and tried carrying her back to Twilight's castle without dropping her.
"I really hope so Smolder..." Spike prayed as he looked at his mother one more time, she looked really beautiful when he looks at her, she seems to have a lot of interesting stuff to her, and hopefully soon, Spike and everyone else will know why Spike really was left alone when he was an egg..
So this is his real mom, not some imposter like the dumb episode?
11949644
Nope, she's not an imposter, you don't have to worry about that stupid twist like in that episode.
11949644
Yes, it's his real mother.
11949645
Awesome
Yeah, Father Knows Beast can go burn for how it squandered the show's last chance of touching on Spike's origins
Already a nice start here.
11949645
Even then, it would be a massive disappointment if Sludge really was Spike's father.(so it was a lose-lose situation they presented for Spike in Father Knows Beast).
Off to a great start already, especially with Crystal being the real deal & not a bait-&-switch like that slimy scumbag, looking forward to more Dragonfan!
11949651
The episode would've worked if they just made a dragon that looks like Spike, and having it be Spike's mother or father, and not Sludge, this episode was nothing more then lazy writing to me for ruining the last moment the show had for showing who Spike's real parents could be.
11949664
Whats worse is how Sludge essentially gotten away with what he did.
