Crumbling Sandstone

A tired young man with a penchant for writing.

E

When she pulled him out of the apple-bobbing tub, there was no way Princess Luna wouldn't have noticed just how skinny the little colt was. Holding him by the back of his shirt, she saw the way it hung off his frame, and when he hugged her hooves at the end of the night, it was plainly apparent that each rib stuck out like a sore horn. Pipsqueak was such a sweetheart, and such a brave young stallion, but his legs wobbled beneath his tiny body with every step he took.

The Princess of the Night sought a moonlit chat with her first adoring subject, anxious to learn more about his situation.

That was a nice and interesting Story. I liked
how you gave both guards names and pip has a really pitiful Situation. If I may say, kinda reminds me of a friend with a similar idea.

You got planned a sequel for luna?

oh damn... sounds like one angry Princess :rainbowderp:

good story

And thus, the Nightmare was turned to the light, and the reckoning was thorough and just.

Trottingham's not gonna know what hit it, clearly.

Oh dear...

I can't wait to see the comeuppance Luna's going to deliver on whoever was responsible for this whole mess.

"There will be a reckoning."

"Whither do we ride, my lady?" Midnight Moon asked, but he felt he already knew the answer, seeing the fury in Luna's eyes.

"To Trottingham," she said. "There will be a reckoning."

Awesome, Luna, good on you. Could you maybe stop by the real life UK next? I realize transfictional travel might be a bit of an ask, but there some parallels you might have some... thoughts about. I know I do.

In all seriousness, I came in expecting just a normal, comfort-the-sad-child story; was definitely not expecting to find a situation reflecting current, despicable political realities. No idea if that was intentional, but it's by no means a bad thing for the story and... yeah, seeing Luna's reaction was... cathartic.

Also, props for the correct use of "whither". Always good to see.

Such problems really do not belong in Equestria and it's good Luna intends to fix it.

Great story, but you should put an AU tag. Pipsqueak always seemed quite healthy to me, and eventually he went to school, too. My story "Diamond Tiara's Decision" gives a brief take on how I perceive Pip.

This is a very good one-shot. You need to write about Luna getting after the ponies in Trottingham . They won't know what hit them.

"There will be a reckoning"

It will not be postponed indefinitely!
The Drowned Man stirs in its wells.
The hunger leads NORTH.

Ahem, sorry, too much London.

Neat one-shot. Want sequel.

When the mother says she has no magic in her hooves like an Earth Pony, does she mean just no super-strength, toughness, and growing magic, or does she mean no tactile telekinesis?

Because if the first, I must reluctantly for the most part AGREE with that part of events. There are many Earth Ponies, from Cheerilee to The Cakes to the Riches, who would seem to make no use of their magic. A long and intense course of training might have been better than a pamphlet if the lie of "you poor utterly crippled (rather than merely disabled) dear" had sunk in, which seems likely... And I say this as a long-term disabled person myself. Actually, my own situation is similar to both of Pipsqueak's parents, in that I am capable (greatly above average in some ways), I simply require accommodations that just so happen to twist the common concept of what "employment" even means to get up to speed and a very high level of emotional support for that same time period. In the long term? Still a touch of the first, but hopefully the damage of long years of unemployment is not so severe that I would be forever bound to the second.

But a populous without private charities* to provide food, shelter, and school supplies? Bad enough in our world. In Equestria... I suspect some supernatural influence (precedents: Changelings and Windigoes), INCREDIBLY DEEP political corruption, or a creeping cultural rot. I'm probably over-thinking when I say that Celestia would have stopped this before it got to this point.
*My own political leanings strongly favor those above government programs. Also note that the assistance their family found in Ponyville was through private individuals.

The three options I listed (supernatural, political, cultural) go from quickest to slowest to fix and most in Luna's wheel-house to least.

If she has the normal fanon, "what hides in the darkness I HUNT" monster-slayer tracking abilities and the nearly undeniable potency in battle that I have only seen absent in fic with a theme of "all alicorns are useless", then that should be true equivalent of a two-parter at most.

Political corruption? She cancelled a national holiday with a verbal proclamation. She has the authority. If she has the understanding and insight to find the scum* and remove and/or.threaten them.

In the last case... martial or even feudal law (Fancy Pants would make a good RULING Lord) might be necessary to get the generation-long healing process started. OTOH less harsh measures were.used in Griffonstone, and that is implied by the tone of the show to have been sufficient to start THAT long process...

*I would use "rats", but in Equestrian the rats are probably quite moral.

Thanks so so much for all your support, everyone! It's absolutely incredible to see. I'm so happy to have made something y'all enjoy!

you're welcome and i hope my comment with the silmarity was alright

The foal hopped up to his shaking legs, a triumphant, rogueish grin on his face. "Avast, your Majesty, I have indeed! For I am Pipsqueak, pirate of the Celestial Sea, and I make all treasures found!"

While reading I had to think of this old song:

"But it was a good meal!" Pipsqueak said, hoping to lighten his parents' hearts. Then he looked to Luna. "And they always shared it with me! Why, sometimes they would tell me to have even more than they got! I never liked that, but I wanted to be a good colt for them."

How can something be so heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time?!

Good story!
I enjoyed reading it.
