Fun with rusty metal.

After losing her wings Rainbow Dash is faced with a decision that will both redeem her and damn her.

This was written for a writing group using the theme of "MLP Cliches". It was the perfect opportunity to write a parody or comedy, but I don;t really find cliches to be funny, so I wrote this. WARNING: this fic contains serious themes and is not intended for sensitive readers. It also has very little to no actual super-fun and no candy at all.

Cliches include: Rainbow Dash loses her wings, Scootabuse, tyrant Celestia, and Twilight is a drunkard among others.

Whoever rated this a 1 was a jackass. You put an interesting spin on an overused cliche, and even managed to incorporate a hint of 'tyrant' Celestia that wasn't too jarring or cold-hearted. I teared up at the end, actually. And it was exceptionally well-written, even drunkard!Dash. : )

You get 5 stars, my friend.

Oh hell, I just read the full list of cliches. Well done, once again, in incorporating all of those into a serious story. I'm not sure Rainbow Dash is a lesbian is even a cliche anymore; our fandom has kinda decided it's canon. v_v :rainbowderp:

Whaddaya mean, we decided it? Look at all the AppleDash Foe Yay! It's canon, fer Chrissakes...

Thank you, my friend, for the comments and the rating. I try to make cliches into something fun and/or original, and if it turns out bad, then I try to make it so bad that you can't look away.

IT was AMAZING
the end

a very well written interesting fic that was pulled of perfectly
well done
:rainbowkiss:

Wonderfully written and conceptually an interesting read.

I am slightly confused as to the ending though. The feel of the ‘question’ suggests that Rainbow would ask to have her clone released to live for her, that being the loyal thing to both her friends and herself. Yet the conclusion is left open enough to suggest that perhaps the opposite is true. Part of me now points out that this was probably a deliberate choice on the author’s part.

Am I right?

no actual super-fun and candy at all? thats... depressing...:pinkiesad2::applecry::fluttercry::raritydespair::raritycry: i'll read it. :pinkiecrazy:

and you've done well, sir. poor scootaloo :raritydespair: but at least she had a happy ending. so poor dash clone :raritydespair:

Rainbow Dash always dresses in style, and usually drinks alone.

I do believe that the ACTUAL Rainbow Dash moved away, and let the clone have her life. After all, it is her.

The ultimate sacrifice, ones life, without dieing.

Five stars, my friend.

I don't recall where or when I first encountered this story, but imagine my surprise when I realized that the fic I was listening to on YouTube was one I'd already read!

This effects me now the way it did then, specifically the chillingly ambiguous ending. Honestly, between the (intentionally) cliched opening, terrible Celestia characterization, and Twilight turning to stone (what the hell, seriously? I still don't get that! It almost paints this as a trollfic), the ending should be the only saving grace, yet you were able to take a bunch of cliches and over-the-top randomness and wring from it a stunning character profile of Rainbow Dash. That the story is open-ended only serves to give the reader the ability to insert their own views on Rainbow to fill in the gap. This story satisfies by not satisfying, and it is a truly memorable, if bizarre, piece.

Thank you again for reading my stories and commenting. I'm glad you liked it. I find that some really interesting stories can be made from taking absurd notions and writing them as straight-laced and seriously as possible.

Thanks also for informing me of my stories being set to audio record. It's too bad that I didn't get the chance to refine the story before he did the audio reading. This story went through a few changes before I was satisfied with it.

Ain't that always the way. :)

I know what you mean about writing absurd premises straight. I find myself doing that a lot, lately.

Damnit man, I still love your story. More so than any other fic, this one has forever poisoned my view of Celestia. I must say that this story still sends me into quite the funk. On first reading, I was sure that Dash, being the element of loyalty, took the moral high road and succumbed to an alcohol fueled slow suicide in exile, although on re-reading I am not so sure. I wonder, what were your personal thoughts and motivations while writing this?
