My problem with this is the fact that both Shining Armor and Big Mac are overused in these clop fics.
Big Mac is monosyllabic, while Shining, well, he was portrayed as being a dope. All male characters are lacking in the show canon. I've always pitied poor Sunburst, being a kind of silly Harry Potter clone, but also having to play second fiddle to Starlight Glimmer... I refuse to talk about Flutters' brother, who is truly another male jerk character...

Aside from Fancy Pants the pickings are awfully slim. The ones with enough lines to make a judgment seem like assholes (Blueblood, Trenderhoof, Zephyr Breeze), dumbasses (Shining Armor, Big Mac, Braeburn, Mr. Cake) or insane (Time Turner, the jelly guy). Or they seem unlikely to prefer mares (Hoity Toity).

Clearly a case of male-bashing by the writers. Then again, the show was meant to be girl-centric anyway, and at the target age for the show's intended audience, boys are usually jerks anyway.

My alternate head-canon is that after Twilight assumes the throne of Equestria, she and Candace breed a new generation of interrelated offspring sired by Shining Armor, all natural alicorns (like Flurry Heart). This would lead to a natural personal union between the two Empires.

One aspect I am not very fond of is that Cadance often is the 'all knowing love person' who basically demands love.
Twilight is the Princess of Friendship and she screwed up big time often enough! She isn't perfect but she keeps trying...
Cadance however gets a 'if its remotely love related - she is flawless at it' free card without any struggles and its just... urrgg...
I think I'd enjoyed this particular part more if Shining at least had to make his case! Explain it. She can be understanding just- not be 5 steps ahead without any clue to how or why except "its my job" :I And I read that so many times in many different stories. Its grinding my gears by now.
THIS ASIDE- I enjoyed the rest a great deal. Its just that one subject sticking out.
I love the twicest stories where cadance is into it
