Luna Against the Dark Part 1

“When the interlopers arrived in this world they brought with them some very strange dreams, dreams tangled in darkness.

I wish I could have been more welcoming to them, as my sister had been. But the strangers unnerved me, particularly the colt clad in green. He was young, just barely entering into his adulthood, but his eyes said otherwise, they were eyes that had seen much, not that I had ever dared to see them in person, but dreams could be telling enough.

His dreams menageried countless deaths from countless different lifetimes, and fierce battles against swarms of armies or against monstrosities, scores of ponies in size, and demons larger than castles. The few pleasantries in his dreams were drowned out by the conflict and loss of lives he didn't even know he had once had.
I should have helped him, I should have intervened, stepped in and protected him from the darkness, but even I was too afraid.

Funny enough it wasn't the darkness that pursued him that scared me, that was the kind of evil that would bring its end. No, he scared me, his intensity, his light.
He was so pure of heart.
He glowed, his truest self a golden figure, a pinnacle of light breaking through even the darkest clouds.
I did not feel worthy to protect him.”
-From the diaries of Princes Luna Equis 5th season of the 4th Age ANM

“Luna tossed and turned in her sleep, as Clouds grimaced darkly in the skies of Canterlot. Something wasn't right Indeed neither the sun nor the moon showed that day, and every creature was still long asleep.
In her dream, all about her a great sea and an unending storm, and she feared drowning, but then the waves ceased and became as glass as a figure stood before her, a creature clothed in wrappings of white and blues having neither fur nor hooves.

Luna somewhat recognized the creature but her thoughts were muddled and confused, hazy. It was one thing to wander the land of dreams, and quite another to be a dreamer asleep.
One of the interlopers?

“Who… Who are you?”

It was only a dream, Luna knew, and yet she still shivered as if the icy cold of the salt water really did soak her mane and bone. And the figure watched her for a moment in silence then gazing out into the distant but re-gathering clouds before answering.

The creature offered their appendage… what was it… a claw, a paw… no… It was an ancient word, one Luna had near forgotten, what was it again…
The creature offered Luna a hand helping her to her hooves before speaking.

“You're cold, let's go somewhere a bit warmer. Time is precious, but it does us no good to dwell in nightmares.
The creature draped their arm around Luna's neck and led her forward, and suddenly they were somewhere else, somewhere Luna recognized but hadn't thought about for a long time.

Four walls of ashen logs, a roaring fireplace, and the chair her mother used to rock in as she told long, meandering stories about the heroes of the past… It was the old grazing cabin (Ponies don't have hunting cabins, you see.) of wich Luna and her sister used to spend long winters in. That was ages and ages and ages ago.
Luna flicked her ears irritably as she glared briefly at an audience of no one, feeling that thinking of herself as three ages was a bit much…but then again perhaps true, if even still too short.

Despite the raging storm outside and the tumbling snow, inside the cabin was toasty and warm, homely.
Luna sat down in a stumped awe that she would dream of something so close to her heart, but so far away in the recesses of her mind and in the passage of time.
The creature spoke.

“I'm sorry if I startled you… Dreams are like a great sea, very easy to lose oneself in a dream. But where in life one can only march forward through the annals of moments, in a dream all the rivers of time flow into a great sea, and one can easily lose themself in prophecy and memory alike…
I'm getting carried away, I meant to introduce myself. I would normally stay hidden… but this is a safe place, no danger but your psyche. The darkness cannot touch us here.”

The creature unwrapped the bandages that masked there, her features, as locks of golden hair fell about her sholders.

“I am Zelda, Princess of Hyrule”
