Just way you portray the tension between Celestia and Luna. All the insecurities Celestia has, their conflicting memories and views on what happened 1000 years ago, how they both blame themselves and how they reconcile with each other. Not to mention all the small details you put in that just make everything so much better. Not to mention how you portrayed Celestia is like, the cutest way possible. I love stories that explore the early days of Luna's return.

My only criticism is the implication that Celestia and Luna had romantic partners in the past. It's just not something I could see them doing. Either them choosing somepony or somepony approaching them. At least that's my headcannon.

Heh, fair enough.

Personally, I'd see them as having infrequent romantic relationships, but still occasional ones. They'd spend most of their lives as the aloof princesses who are too far above everypony else to be romantic, but they might make occasional exceptions. Maybe only once every few hundred years, when they meet somepony truly special. It would just be too sad and lonely for them to never experience that for themselves. And maybe it was something both of them tended to do more often earlier in their reign, and as time went on, they did it less and less frequently, until today it's practically unthinkable.

And besides, it provides an excellent explanation for the origins of pony nobility -- especially ponies like Prince Blueblood. Most of the highest, most important nobility in Equestria would be descendants from Celestia and Luna's few past relationships long ago. Heck, that brings up an interesting premise for a new story: One of the princesses has gotten into a new romantic relationship with a stallion, and they face fierce opposition from existing Canterlot nobility trying to break up the relationship ... because a new partner means the possibility of new children, and new royal children means diluting the nobles' own claim to nobility and privilege. I could see Prince Blueblood, especially, being opposed to the idea of a new prince being born.

I always saw canterlot nobility like blueblood to be descendants of old unicornia royalty like Princess Platinum. It's a common fan theory that clover the clever is Twilight's ancestor and that her family is a noble house.

Aww that was a good lump of sugary sweetness to read. Thank you for writing it.
