It's more like Show Bucker is his pony equivalent. The memories are suppressed because Tucker wants out.

Sorry for the second comment, but I owe a better explanation. The idea is that this is a chance at redemption with this character with his equivalent created in Equestria. He still harbors many of the same memories because Tucker is ingrained. The idea is that these were memories initially suppressed until they resurfaced when he saw Apple Bloom and Winona and was reminded, unknown to him, of Nina and Alexander. Essentially, Tucker's in there and he wants out. We shall see what happens next.
I started tearing up when I saw what happened to Nina. That moment proved to me that almost anything could happen on FMA.
