Lol, communists.

When you know somepony is guilty, but you can't prove it, what do you do? If you're Princess Luna, you let the guilty ponies decide. Based off the mind game 'The Prisoner's Dilemma'.

I smell a good story! Oh... and I read it too. Very interesting, I shall continue to the next chapter soon. Never heard of this "mind game" it's based on, but it turning out pretty good so far. Here, have a like and a favorite,

Favorited for the concept alone. Before anyone starts complaining, yes, I actually read it.

The Prisoner's Dilemma is easily one of my favorite mind games.

Have a Wikipedia link: Prisoner's Dilemma

Ohh, a thinking pony's story, will read soon:pinkiegasp:

Something to work your brain to contemplate? I'm certainly reading this!

Now I wonder if anyone has done a fic based on 'The lady and the tiger'...

1366797 That's another favorite of mine. I love mind games, even if I'm not very good at them.

You just caused me over an hour of Wiki-hopping and I eventually landed somewhere in the middle of the Cold War. For that my friend, you deserve an up-vote. (I'll have to take a look at this later)

Didn't they both confess in the 1st chapter...

and...

"We need a confession?" finished Luna. "No evidence it's them, but everyone seems to think so... anyway, who are they? The criminals."

1367121 Should be everypony now. As for the confessions, my idea here was that Luna doesn't really care if they confess or not, she just wants to play a mind game and see how they respond/react. You have a very good point though, good sir. Thank you for the criticism.

I wonder what Celly will think of how this little game played out... never did care much for this Dilemma, this sort of thing always assumes the worst of people.

Ah, yes. The prisoner's dilemma. My microeconomics teacher talked about that before.
When you know two most likely suspects, but don't have enough evidence to convict them, you offer both of them a choice (provided one of the suspects is in a different room of course).
They can either say that the other guy did it or remain silent.
If both suspects stay quiet, there's enough evidence to convict both of them of less serious misdemeanors.
If both say that the other guy did it, both of them face 3 years in prison (or 5 depending on your example).
If one stays quiet while the other rats him out, then the quiet one faces 10 years in prison while the squealer gets off scott free.
It's economically sound for both of them to admit. Therefore, the most likely result is they both face 3 (or 5) years in prison.
Confused yet? :trollestia:

well that makes them both guilty of breaking out of prison so jail time

Interesting. Looking forward to seeing how this shapes up.

Luna: You have two choices A) Rat out your partner. B) Keep quiet (and hope your partner does the same).

Gold Coin: Yea, I'll take option C, thanks.

Luna: ...

...I like the story... I'm curious how this chapter's ending is a trick, because I'm sure it is:trollestia:

But, I don't understand how you're using the dilemma.
What is Luna trying to teach? The lesson of the dilemma is to always start with trust and return whatever you recieve (trust or betrayal)... how does comprehending that bring a pair of bank robbers to justice?
:pinkiehappy:I guess I'll keep reading and find out:yay:

Intriguing. I think ima keep following this. More please.

I'm rooting for prisoners. Luna is a total mare suish jerk: both prisoners confessed, but she still wants to play with them for her own "Look how smart I am" amusement.

Also, since she expected that they will escape, she deliberately put life of a jailer in danger: Gold Coin might accidentally killed or injured jailer too hard. Buy hey, if it will show prisoners and Celestia how stupid they are comparing to all-mighty-know-it-all-princess-of-the-night Luna, then it's ok. :facehoof:

I quite honestly didn't see Option C coming - or that Gold Coin did, in fact, have an Option C2 that Luna hadn't thought of. Very cunning stuff :twistnerd:

Is marked as complete, but has "to be continued"...? I like what I saw so far, though it seems to me that both of them were doing a fair bit of confessing right from the get-go. :)

There's not enough hard evidence to incriminate them...

I robbed a bank! I stole from the City o' Canterlot! Almost got away with it, not many can say that!

I do believe a confession is hard enough evidence.
