Astral Spark

E

In 2051, mankind arrived at the pinnacle of their existence. With Humans spread out amongst the Solar System, revolutionary technology without limits in our grasp, and the promise of an even brighter future provided us with unhindered aspiration for our species... but how high can we truly be able to fly before our wings simply fail us? Maybe we received our answer in April of that same year. A depression in the fabric of local space-time, known as the Friedrich Singularity, is consuming Earth. One day, nothing of Earth will be left due to this, and it's a race against time in order to find a solution for the survival of the Human race.

On the other side of the Singularity, another parallel universe exists, and so, a parallel Earth. However, this Earth is significantly different from ours in every way, right down to the sub-atomic structure of the most basic of things. On this parallel Earth lives several multitudes of sentient species, ranging from the battle-hardened, wise and honor bound Gryphons, the calm and reserved Zebras, the often greedy, but experienced and wise dragons, and lastly, the mysterious, peaceful, intelligent Ponies. Understanding the magnitude of this event, the Ponies offer their advanced mastery of what they call, "magic", to the Humans, and together, the situation was quickly assessed. However, the truth is not always what you want to hear.

As it turns out, our atomic structure doesn't fair well with magic, and the immediate solution is simple: With a magically tolerant body, such as a Pony's, the human in question may be able to live another day in a magical environment. And so, conversion was the likely plan for Humanity's future, if another solution could not be found. However... Humanity always seems to find loopholes.

Martin Industries, a multinational corporation who has been at the forefront of scientific innovation for over 30 years, is now on the brink of something extraordinary: something that could redefine the survival of the Human race, rendering conversion obsolete. But what does this mean for the billions of men, women, and children who payed the price, their Humanity, in order to ensure their continued existence? Some believe that it would be best if this technology was never allowed to see the light of day, and both Humans and Ponies alike are willing to die in order to protect what they believe is the will of a higher power. But, within this conflict, one question will arise, and it may or may not be able to be answered:

Were the hooves worth it in the end?

Based off of the Conversion Bureau universe, this story explores the neutral ground between both Human and Pony. Not very traditional TCB, as the ponies tend to be a lot more, "human", if you catch my drift. They aren't "Friendship Bots" or warmongering animals. They are, to put it simply, moral, sentient beings, just like Humanity tends to be. But they can also be just as horrible as the worst criminal mastermind that you can think of. If you're new to this kind of fan-fiction, do not fear, I go pretty in-depth explaining my universe and Conversion itself. Criticism is always welcome, especially as I am trying a new style of writing.

An interesting start, little bit wall of texty at the beginning, but still curious to see what comes next

This is looking to be damn good. Hopefully this wont be like the other CB fics where its either just full on misanthropy or pony hatred. God speed.

I'm not sure what to make of this yet, but I'll keep my eye on it.
And what kind of nutcase would deem emigration to mars blasphemy? You'd think that by 2050 the last flat-earth-believer would have either accepted the globe or jumped of the disk.

1402507
Not simply just the colonization of Mars, but the implications such an event would have on the way many perceive our existence. In my universe, technology has reached the point where we're tampering with things that many believe shouldn't be tampered with. Among them, controlled evolution, semi-sentient artificial intelligence, and most importantly, the creation of life itself. The Home Front isn't concerned with the colonization of other worlds and the advancements of modern science, it's concerned of what it could lead to, and that technology can ultimately bring Humanity to its knees if it isn't regulated.

You must. Continue this, for the sake of--who cares--finish it. During English. Who needs English? You don't. Write! :pinkiecrazy:

So this is essentially about transhumanism? Well, you do your thing and see where it goes.
I just like the idea that there is a third option: Death, conversion or exodus.

1402867
A lot of it just has to do with how far technology can go until we end up ruining everything we've achieved. The implications of this idea will be seen throughout the story, and just how it has affected mankind.

Well... I usually hate anything with the words 'Conversion Bureau' in the title, but I dunno... I might give this a try. Of course, if I find it to be yet anouther wonderful fic telling me about how the human race is a virus that can only be cured by extinction, or anything else like that, I'll respectfully downvote this and leave a comment explaining exactly how and why you can go fuck yourself. We'll see.

Well, I wrote this story with specific intentions of definitely not ending up with myself fucked. With that in mind, this story simply demonstrates the good and the bad of both sides. It's not the species, but the individual. The Ponies are neither good or bad, they are both. The Humans are neither good or bad, they are both. I believe that everyone is good at heart, and fight for a righteous cause in their own way. It's just a matter of perception. So basically, individuals are good or bad, not an entire species. At least that's what I'm attempting to do with my stories. :ajsmug:

1404204 Okay, now I've read it. I suppose this is the part where I tell you everything that's good and bad and ugly, isn't it? Well, you managed to defy my expectations. I assumed you were going to either have a massive dump of dime-store philosophy or a story that, while having a pretty cover, would be entirely without substance. I was wrong on both counts. I'm quite interested in seeing where this is going.

It always refreshing to see a story where humanity is flexing its ingenuity. Looking foward to reading more of this tale. By the way, its been a dream of mine to settle on a whole new planet also.

Is there something wrong with the PER?
*tosses a potion bomb idly*

And nice story dood, but please get back to dat Guardian story... Im waiting for an update.

This is shooting right to the top of my "must read" list!

I LOVE you man! That's exactly what I'm doing! It's also what I believe is the only "accurate" way to portray TCB because that's how they behave in the show. No better or worse than any given sentient species.

it seems pretty good i'll come back later to finish

Hmm... how best to sum up my feelings for this story, Oh, I know! Meh. Aside from the fact that humanity apparently has terraforming tech I'm not exactly sure what is making humanity converting to ponies, I mean in the original there was rampant pollution, In Chay's universe it was pollution and other shit so what is making our realties converge again? A technological singularity? That just means our tech can't get any better, it's not gonna cause the end of the world it only means we need to find something else to apply our knowledge to. Also if given the chance I'd change into a dragon not a fuckin' pony but maybe that because I've been playing a little too much skyrim. So basically this has promise if handled right.

Well, I go into depth in the first chapter explaining that Humans, and as an extension, all living things in our universe are unable to survive in the parallel universe because of Thaumatic Energy. Thaumatic Energy "magic" is toxic to all Earth organisms. Conversion was originally meant to only modify Human DNA to certain extent, but the process was impossible without changing critical structures within our DNA. With a complete, "DNA override", such as Human to Pony conversion, the process becomes a lot more blunt, and by an extent, successful. The Friedrich Singularity is a special type of gravitational singularity that doesn't become active until the bubble universe where Equestria resides passes over it. I'll be explaining how the Singularity works better later on.

spread out amongst the Solar System

consuming Earth

survival of the Human race

If we're spread all over the solar system, wouldn't there be colonies on places that aren't Earth? Like gigantic sci-fi size spaceships, or some moon, or something?
Other than that, good story.

1551086
Of course. Thing is, however, we're confined to our own solar system, and Terraforming technology is still just a baby. True, we do have some rather large sci-fi spaceships, but once again, they're still in their early stages. Artificial Gravity can only be sustained for limited amounts of time, and other similar Human habitation technologies are primitive. Remember, this is only forty years from now, and while we excel in technology, we are also taking more risks. To try and place 8 billion Humans on only a handful of primitive spaceships would be impossible. We retain colonies on Mars, the Jovian moons, and various orbital installations, but these are normally small mining and research colonies. Even if we could fly all 8 billion of ourselves to Mars, it would be folly.
With that said, the survival of the Human race hinges on Earth. If we can't fix the problem, or find another blue planet, the majority of the Human race will ultimately become non-existent.

Sorry for the wait guys, but here's a new chapter! Do you like new chapters? I like new chapters!
Hopefully the next chapter will be out sooner than this one was. I know, it's not even that long, or even progresses the story much at all, but I wanted to get Chelsea's initial "waking up as a pony" thing done with in one chapter.
Well, enjoy! :pinkiehappy:

New chapters is something I approve of and this story is something that deserves approval!
