I like to think the only reason the spaceship abducts pairs of relatives is due to a typo in its software. An errant negation would be all it takes for it to ignore creatures that aren't related instead of ones that are.

I really thought for a moment Silverstream was going to be stuffed with changeling eggs when she got beamed up. Then that would lead to the reveal of what Ocellus had done and the pairs true feelings. Then their kidnappers would be really damn confused about how these eggs somehow didn't quite match their genetics.

OK, so I've been thinking about this a bit.
Even aside from the whole 'immediate family' thing, which was rendered sensible nicely, there is all kinds of fishiness around this: the asteroid hitting the one place with magic, just when someone's there to do a rescue.
I don't think the rescuers are the ones who sent the asteroid, but I think someone did. Why? To get the magic out. A crystal core of the planet, say. So they shattered it, harvested it, sell it.
Some will naturally make it to the zoo. Their powers come back, only moreso, amplified by technology. They bust out. Twilight, Shining, and their kids use the concentrated magic power to create an alternate timeline where they defend Equestria (and demonstrate to their younger selves the benefits of incest).
This reminds me of the one weird thing. Why did Twilight not try writing anything? They could find something to write with. Mane hairs, food scraps… well, now that they're with each other, semen should be available.

That was great. Sad about the one good human that Garbles dumbest killed though. Really wanted to see something come from that. I know griffins are probably next, but what about alicorns? I know Celesita and Luna are sisters, but I feel like there could be a way to give one of them a dick, if only temporarily lol. Otherwise it's a sad case of them just being wiped out.
Regardless of what you end up doing, great work. This was a great read.
