Foreword to the rewrite by DualThrone and Noble Cause

Author's Note:

Back in June, 2011, Noble Cause was one of the EqD pre-readers that didn't hate the story. Like I mention in this BLOG, those were different times and the type of theme and tag combination made everyone doubtful about whether or not that could be put together or not. And rightly so; Comedy/Adventure/Grimdark is not something you find that often now either. But Noble pushed it and helped it pass because he saw something he liked in it, and I am very grateful for that chance he gave me.

DualThrone is someone I've had the pleasure to get to know better after she started writing an unofficial, and frankly epic, well... epic-continuation to the TER universe. Her amazing World-Building and her way with words made me love her work, and our conversations and disagreements made me deeply respect her as a very smart woman and accomplished writer.

I came to The Empty Room quite a few months ago, after it'd already been finished. Mostly, I came to it because I'd come to appreciate the author apart from his work, and always thought that it was very appropriate that his user icon looks so cheerful. But as the saying goes, I came for the author's reputation and stayed for the fun times. When an author kicks things off by killing a named character, you know you're in for something epic, whether an epic bullet train to literary hell or an epic piece of fiction; this thing delivered epic of the second kind. It had everything I could have wanted in a story, and that's why I finished it and said to myself, "Dual, if Wanderer says yes, you could write something really good in this AU." As you might be able to tell from the fact that Game of Worlds topped 100,000 words and the guy with a banhammer didn't hunt me down, Wanderer said yes.

There's a lot that happens here, and you're not going to like everything because let's face it, no one ever likes everything their favorite author writes, even if you'd sacrifice your firstborn in that author's name. But this has everything you could ask for from a well-made work: good characters, surprise twists, every death has meaning, and every canon character remains who they are while bearing the unique touch of the author that's using them. I admired this work enough to write an unofficial sequel with the blessing of its author... and I really think you'll admire it too. Happy trails, gallant reader!

The Empty Room’ was one of the first stories that really grabbed me in this fandom, not just as an Equestria Daily pre-reader, but as someone that loves a good mystery. It really had me wondering just what was going to happen next, or what new twist was going to be revealed in the next chapter, and I greatly enjoyed the full ride from beginning to end. This is part of my ‘go back and read’ list, which happens to be rather short indeed. I can only hope that it appeals to you as well as it has me.

This was actually among my first reads as well, way back when. It was... wow, both not that long ago, and yet also seems forever ago, just 2.5 years ago... Wow... Where has the time flown? Anywho, I'm looking forward to the future chapters as well, to see what all is changed, or added, or perhaps even removed! Who knows? The only thing I know is that I'm in for a bouncy ride! (And the good kind, where you're laughing and crying and screaming all at the same time, like an amusement park. Not like the bad kind, where you're tied to a boulder and launched off the side of a mountain. That isn't fun... Unless you're a sadist, and you're the one pushing people off the mountain. Then it's great fun! But uh, don't do that. Every time you do that, a Pinkie and Fluttershy die...)

It's one of the best stories I read on fanfiction.net and was part of what inspired me to write new night saga on the same site. In a way wanderer was the one to get me started on my own writing career I may not be on his level but I take pride in coming up with unique ideas. Some of my fics was born from what I noticed of the series. Like the concequences of the royal wedding. I thought twilight forgave the girls to quickly I mean they pretty much forsaken their elements and celestia is like a second mother to twilight and to do that to twilight was a bit to much. Twilight knows cadence better then anyone. If she acted off then usual then red flags would go up

By far my favorite Fanfiction ever. The way it plays with your emotions is just insane and awesome. I just wish for the story to remain the same, but added scenes and more detail in some parts would be greatly welcomed. A longer reunion scene for Celestia and Twilight would make me very very happy, just sayan.

Good luck with this rewriting. Now I'll go read Trixie dying a gruesome dead... again.

I consider myself a sadist, but I would never throw someone off a mountain, tied to a boulder. I would never do that for one reason alone: You can only do it once.

No, I prefer making my victims writhe in fear as they know exactly what to expect, but are completely incapable of stopping it...

That is, if my very strict code of personal honor didn't keep me from being a complete menace to society. As it stands it'll only torture murders and their ilk in ways so horrific as to be unthinkable to the average mind.

Supposedly, you've read everything this site has on it (or so one of your fans has said on his user page) and it's hard for me to overstate just how much I appreciate people who read my stuff and then tell me what I did wrong and what they think will fix it. As I say in the author note of one chapter, a reader's suggestion resulted in some really, really awesome scenery... so I'm really open to reader input.
