Still waiting on a few more chapters before I dive in. Just wanted to say something that I missed the first time I saw this posted. I didn't realize the title of the sequel, nor did I look at the cover art. I am a huge fan of a friendly Chrysalis. When I saw her on the cover, this middle aged old man squealed like a little girl. I even clapped my hand like a little kid in giddy merriment. I am extremely excited to get into this when the time comes.

My headcannon is that changelings can only feed off of sapient creatures. Animals liked dogs just can't sustain them, hence the need to feed on ponies and such.

Yes, this is my favorite way to depict Chrysalis, Changelings and the entire Wedding Invasion. An act of desperation, an entire race struggling to survive in a world that sees them as nothing but parasites. Already I’m loving this sequal!

Hopefully now that Chrysalis is trying to use diplomacy (I assume she's being truthful, anyways, given the cover art for the story) she will get the help she and her species needs. Because of the invasion, though, not many ponies are going to be willing to trust any changelings that move in.

... I wonder if she will ultimately join the herd? The coverart really makes me wonder with Celestia's wing over Chrysalis' shoulder. Maybe I am reading too much into things.

Well, I don’t know. I actually like the Canon!Chrysalis including her depiction in the later seasons a fair bit as well; yes, she’s a piece of work, but at least she has a spine and I still believe that even that version could be redeemed or at least learn to tone her villainy down to sustainable levels. It’d just take more time, effort, and spotlight than I think the show runners felt like expending on her, and that’s the real pity...

...point is, she’s of course not actually all that compatible with any sort of “genuinely caring mom” interpretation, so these days I find that I often have some difficulty when switching mental gears between stories depicting her different versions. More so than seems to be true for any one or two other characters, I mean.

"That... first off, you're lucky nopony actually did die that day, and secondly, even if you were trying to take anypony alive, that doesn't justify or excuse abducting our kind, sealing them in pods and draining them until they wither away and die of malnutrition!" Celestia exclaimed.
"They weren't going to die!" Chrysalis snarled, suddenly.
"Your actions said otherwise!" Celestia spat, barring her teeth as she glared at the changeling queen.
"The pods keep the ponies inside in a deep state of sleep. They're filled with all the nutrition a pony needs to live for decades. They keep the pony inside in a state of pure bliss and happiness. They'd never know what happened to them as they'd be too busy living in utter ecstasy." Chrysalis explained.

Sometimes I like to inject my own responses to character dialogue
"Even if the pods work exactly as you say, that following a huge unknown army breaking into the city and immediately enacting a hostile takeover, would be akin to shoving a loaded crossbow into somepony's face and saying the bolt is enchanted with healing properties. It doesn't matter what the end result is, you've already got them scared for their lives and at best disinclined to cooperate. Very counterproductive

i love that my bullshit radar is going off like crazy. shes a master manipulator and liar. no matter how she words it. it will be double truths and more bullshit. id sooner cave her skull in with the frying pan. using children as an emotional weapon. :P

Thing is, even if that had been exactly her plan, it still would have failed, for the exact same reason every other attempt at a drug/magic induced utopia fails: it's boring. Eventually the brain connects the dots and realizes that nothing bad has happened in a while, so it then starts going out of its way to make something bad happen just to break the monotony. While momentary pleasure can be derived from constant success, the lack of a threat of failure causes the success to have no meaning. And basically every evil genius who tries to take over the world through use of a dopaminergic haze seems to forget that it quickly turns into suicidality and apathy.
